This park is very small. the trail around the lake is about a half a mile. It is also not very well kept and seems to be frequented by some shady characters, at least while I was there. It could use some landscaping, emptying of trash cans and renovation of the fields and tennis courts. They have a community center, a ball field, tennis courts in the back and an aquatic center. They also have a playground and two covered pavilions that you can rent for events. The pavilions do come with some strict rules though. The pavilions and their picnic tables are in dire need of a thorough pressure washing. You can however, fish in the lake. I saw someone doing it while I was there, but I am not sure how well stocked it is though. On a positive note, the recreation staff is very friendly and there is ample parking. The lake has blue benches all around that you can stop, rest and take it all in. There are ducks all over the place....I really mean all over the place. Almost too many of them.

I must have come when they recently stocked. I was catching and releasing cats left and right. The next weekend- 5.5 hours and not even a nibble. It's a nice place though. The people are generally friendly. They have trails, grills, basketball, soccer, shelters, a playground, fishing, an indoor facility that hosts programs and an aquatics park with slides.

Nice little neighborhood park with trails to walk, a lake to fish in, a baseball diamond, basketball courts, weightlifting gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, shelters to rent or just use and a playground. They also offer a variety of classes from infant to seniors, there is something for everyone. Surely you can find something that interests you. The costs are very reasonable also. Check it out, I'll see you there...

Krannert is another one of the better Indy Parks. This is one with a very nice pond and shaded shelters/playgrounds. There is a large family rec center and an aquatic center. In the outlying areas of the park, there are sports fields/courts for the bigger kids. For those who like hiking, there are two options with paved pathways.Although the park & rec center are showing some age, I did see the parks department had workers attending the outdoor swimming pool. I hope the maintenance continues to keep the park at a high quality.Review #662

Krannert has so much to offer for adults, children and families. Indoors you'll find an array of classes with excellent instructors, a weight room, an indoor basketball court, and indoor pool with classes and free swim. If you're looking for classes check out their website. I've attended several classes here throughout the years and truly enjoyed. There is always someone at the front desk for questions and to direct you.Outdoors you have a large pool with a separate toddler pool and a picnic area within pool area. The grounds have 2 shelter areas with picnic tables, playground area for the kids and families can enjoy the shaded bench areas. If you enjoy fishing & have a license bring your fishing poles. The lake has many fishing docks as well as those who just cast off the side. While your here talk a walk around the lake on the walking path.Great park and center for Westsiders or anyone looking for classes, fishing, swimming, walking, playing or just reading on a quite, shady bench.

I am amazed at the array of events/classes that are available at Krannert. My New Years resolution this year was to get off my duff before it gets any bigger. Not only do they have a pool and a gym, but they have a social activitys room as well. I'm attending Aqua Zumba classes currently, but I will defiantly branch out soon. Tumbling for toddlers is on my Granddaughters list. and there are many movement classes for adults as well. Arts & Crafts, Fencing, a weight lifting room ect ect ect...and did I mention the prices? The Aqua Zumba classes are only $3 a class and you pay as you go so you don't pay for any class that you miss, that's soooooooo AWESOME. It's really amazing to me how broad the spectrum of learning is in our City Parks, you just have to do a little digging to find the complete schedule. Family movie nights, Valentine dances,Photography classes, to kiddie day camps. I really have to reason to sit at home in front of the TV!Only negitive, their lack of funding shows, things are a little worn around the edges.

I miss the old Krannert Park. With the big slide and wave pool. This was the place to be. Not to mention all the baseball fields and soccer fields. This park deserves a big reinvestment for the Westside of Indianapolis and it deserves the life it once had.
