This is the second Knead the Dough Bakery that I tried and was happy i did. This location is in an older building near downtown Martinsville. The interior is not as upscale as the Lizton location. They have a small dining area and workspace and a craft/project room. I came in late, by noon, but after the donut hours. The cases had a varied selection of cookies, donuts and pastries. The clerk told me that their most popular donut was the Apple Cinnamon Donut, but they didn't have any. The clerk said, "I'll make you one!" In ten minutes, she came out with my donut. And it was fresh, soft and delicious. Lots of crispy cinnamon sugar, it melted in my mouth. Great service! Great donut. So good. Plenty of parking. I'll come back. Earlier next time.

No frills: Just great old-school-style donuts, with a couple of fancy things thrown in, like cronuts (croissant donuts). Sometimes, you just want a simple glazed yeasted that's soft and sweet, or a crumbly old fashioned to dunk in coffee. I like my donuts plain and good and predictable, and this is what you'll find here.Of course, that being said, the donut I chose for myself was a cronut. Sometimes I just can't help myself -- I just need that touch of bougie to get through the day. And what better place to be bougie than Martinsville, right? My kids, however, got glazed twists and jelly filled donuts, so I got to taste how great they were. My cronut was great, but next time, I'll go back to basics and get one of the glazed yeasted donuts.Knead the Dough Bakery also sells frosted cookies, danish, turnovers, bear claws, cinnamon rolls and apple fritters. They have coffee too! There are a few different seating options, including bar seating and table seating. There's lots of room to hang out, or you can do what we did and get your tasty donuts to go.

Gayle and I were driving down to Bloomington from the Indianapolis area last Friday after a forgettable stay at a rather tired Airport hotel. The "free hot breakfast" didn't do anything for us and perhaps we should have dined at a nearby Waffle House. While I was really hungry, Gayle just wanted to get to her Son's house (and family) ASAP. We finally agreed to stop at a restaurant in Downtown Martinsville, which turned out to be closed. But on the way, we drove past Knead the Dough Bakery and decided to stop there as we were heading back. It wasn't bacon and eggs, but a sweet roll and coffee has always been an acceptable first or second choice for me. This Bakery looks rather plain on the outside and definitely fades into the neighborhood. Yet inside are some solid bakery choices and good coffee as a bonus. My choice was a "long john" with a solid cinnamon roll-like base, then covered with maple frosting an nuts. Was it absolutely delicious, too much food, and bad for my heart? Absolutely! And your point? Gayle lowered her sights with a nice cookie choice, and knowing that she'd take a nice bite out of mine. The only mystery is how I'm going to figure out an excuse to come back the next time we're visiting family.

Delicious fritters and Bismarcks are worth the trip. I only wish they were open on Sunday's. They have different flavors of fritters and I haven't had one that I didn't love.

Local bakery in Martinsville with a great assortment and cronuts! You hardly see cronuts anywhere and these are some of the best around! We came specifically for the cronuts and got some more. We got an assortment, twists, tiger tails, apple fritters, chocolate frosted with sprinkles, Bismarck's, and donut holes. The Bismarck's were fresh, fluffy and nutty! Get there early because their donuts go fast!

A line at the door is always a good sign. And this line didn't disappoint! We stopped in around 9:45am on a Saturday and the donut case was practically empty. Luckily, they had plenty of choices on a rack to the side and in the back. The woman who helped us was very patient with all our questions even though it was so busy.I love a good fluff filled donut. Their maple topped fluff was fantastic, with a generous amount of filling. The square donut was a pleasant surprise. It was like a lightly glazed croissant. I would definitely get it again. Their custard filled was also a hit, not too sweet and generously filled. I wish this place were closer because it would be a weekly stop. On second thought, maybe it's a good thing it isn't closer!

We recently stopped here after going to the BMV to celebrate my grandson passing his written driving test. There was a line when we walked in but not too long for us to change our minds. While waiting, we noticed there is a nice size room with tables and chairs where you can eat on site. My wife pointed to the pies in the display and noticed they had our granddaughters favorite, Chocolate Cream Pie. She also noticed they had a bag of brownie end pieces (she knows the ends are my favorite part). My grandson got the donut sticks with the glaze dipping sauce. Our granddaughter got the same plus three chocolate glazed donut holes. I must admit they looked really good. My wife opted for two plain glazed donuts. We found a nice table and sat down to eat there. I hadn't planned on eating any donuts but as usual my granddaughter's eyes are bigger than her stomach. So I *had* to help her finish off her donut sticks. They were plenty sweet without dipping in the glaze. My wife enjoyed her plain glazed donuts saying they had a nice flavor and were light not heavy at all.I noticed they have a coat rack made out of rolling pins cut in half. And lots of little sayings about dough. When we left there was still a line and it didn't look like it would slow down any time soon. And the line moved really fast since two people took and filled orders while one person worked the register. I love the name of this bakery, really catchy. I think we will make this one of our regular weekend day stops.
