I had the good fortune to run into Doris the other day. "The Pie Lady" as she's lovingly referred to around the neighborhood had just left City Market and was headed home when I ran into her at another shop. During our discussion, I found out she had pie left over from City Market that she didn't sell, so I grabbed a fork and decided to help out in any way that I could.Three of us got three different pies; kentucky (bourbon) pecan, sugar cream and blueberry crumble. Each was fantastic, but I was pretty happy with my sugar cream pie selection. Made with love in the Jazzy Doris kitchen from scratch, these pies are pretty amazing. Make sure you visit her at City Market on Wednesday's, just outside the women's restroom. You'll be glad you did!

Well, I had hoped to taste at least one of the pies, but they seem to have disappeared rather quickly. Based upon how fast they disappeared they must have been 5 star worthy.Doris was friendly and gave us a little history lesson while we were there. When we come back to Indianapolis, I will attempt to get a taste and update my review.

Jazzy Doris was packing up when I passed her table in the City Market this afternoon, and when I said I wanted to buy a slice of pie, she gave me a BOGO deal (Woo hoo!). She had three lavors left--pecan, blueberry sour cream, and blackberry--and I bought a blackberry and blueberry sour cream. Oh YUM! Both the filling and the crust are tasty (well how can't it be when lard is one of the ingredients), and the portion is an appropriate size for the price of $3/slice. Best of all, there's love and lard in every bite! Doris said she is at the City Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and you can always call and order a whole pie. I might have to take you up on your offer, Doris! I'll be looking for Jazzy Doris the next time I'm in the City Market!

I love Jazzy Doris and her from-scratch pies! Lots of varieties - I would be hard pressed to name a favorite. She is friendly and kind and always has interesting stories that make the buying experience even more pleasant! You won't find a better pie in Indianapolis!

Jazzy Doris Pie's are by far the best desserts I have had since living in Indianapolis. She makes desserts for Mimi Blue Meatballs, and we had them at our rehearsal dinner. Our guests were raving about the pies and cobblers. Everything she makes is from scratch and you can tell. Definitely worth a visit to City Market or to Mimi Blue Meatballs to try her work out!

Jazzy Doris has been making pies for awhile. She will sit down and tell you the story of how her pie baking career got started. She'll laugh and let you have a good time all while eating a delicious slice of her homemade pies. And I mean they are homemade from scratch made with love type of pies. And I love pie. My husband loves pie. I love to bake pies..and Jazzy well she can bake a pie better than me!! She has everything from your standard fruit pies to the Hoosier Pie (Sugar Cream for you non-Hoosiers) to a delicious sexy piece of Kentucky bourbon pie. Yes her pie is sexy. It's soulful and full of a deep history and story about love and baking. I would probably be super fat if I came here everyday which is why I like that she is only at the market on Weds. and she knows her goods. So come on by and grab a delicious slice of homemade pie and enjoy a few stories from Jazzy Doris. She is what makes Indianapolis a fine city full of Midwest hospitality and delight.

I tried Doris's Kentucky bourbon pie and i will go back to try some others. The Kentucky bourbon is rich, really rich. It is loaded with pecans, has a slight boozy flavor and a bit of oakiness. Have a glass of milk or coffee ready. It'd probably be good heated with some vanilla ice cream too. Doris is good people, give her pie a try.
