I knew I was in the right place!
I qualified for this table, too, and they made me feel like a regular!

What a fun place! When I travel, I try to find the places the truckers used to call a "Local choke & puke" (maybe they still do?) that are locally owned diners. I already know what I'm going to find at portion-controlled franchise places, and the local diners tend to have a colorful atmosphere all their own. This is such a place! It's a typical diner as you enter, a counter on the left with stools, booths along the far wall on the right and tables down the middle. I knew I was in the right place when I saw that sign that says, "Beware of Attack Waitress." Over a large table in the back is a sign that says, "Reserved for Farmers, Fisherman, Golfers, and other liars."The ringleader of the guys at the liar's table struck up a conversation with me, asking where I was from (my Green Bay Packers jacket might have been a giveaway that I was not from town.) I told him I probably qualified for the liars' table because I used to sell used cars. He said, "Well, that's about the same as an equipment dealer!" and waved me over. As you might guess, Buck is the local implement and tractor dealer.I ordered a pancake and coffee, while Buck and I, along with several local farmers (not much to do on the farm in February) began swapping stories, most of which were probably true. The Attack Waitress wrinkled up my check and said, "No need to add it up, it's $2.80" and I paid her right away. She disappeared, but came back a few minutes later and explained she's the only one who can work the cash register and had to get to the bank. That's not gonna happen in a franchise place, which is exactly why I look for places like Janet's. The food is predictably average, which is exactly what I look for in a local joint. I'll be there next time I get to Rensselaer, whenever that might be.

All you want from a home town restaurant. Went for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. Food was home cooked. Waitress was quick, polite and friendly. Not gourmet cuisine but excellent for what it is. Very clean too

Owner and staff are very rude. A hole in the wall is an understatement! Go to Royal Oaks instead. The place looks dirty and unkept.

The food was fine, but nothing I couldn't have done better at home. The service was slow, even though it wasn't busy. It appeared the locals had preferential treatment.

Service was very good, BLTs were great. I ordered special of Country Fried Steak, mashed with gravy and slaw, this caused the rating drop, disappointing. I will order breakfast next time.

My grandpa has been taking me here sense I was little, he goes every morning for coffee. It's a small town place threw and threw. If your looking for good people, good food, and genuine hospitality, you found it.

Solid and cute place for breakfast. It was definitely worth the extra couple miles off the interstate to have a nice, sit down meal on a road trip. Generous portions of bacon and sausage with our orders. Fast, friendly service.
