The Steer-In is an Indianapolis Icon. It has been a long time since we've been here but the food has always been consistently good. We just don't get to this part of town very often. Tonight was loaded tots. They were crispy and seriously loaded with bacon and cheese. I got chicken livers , mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. All was great. And a big portion. Husband got a cheese burger and cottage cheese. He said the burger was really good. Our service was great and the tables and floors were clean.

I've been to Steer-In multiple times throughout the years, and it's truly an Irvington staple. The menu offers a lot of variety, and the prices are decent. The service is great and friendly, which always enhances the experience. However, I've noticed that the consistency in food quality can be questionable at times, and the overall environment varies as well. It's a quaint location with a lot of history, but I'm not always sure how I feel about every single thing I order. While the prices can be reasonable, the food doesn't always meet my expectations. That said, I'll still be back for the vibes and the unique experience that Steer-In offers!

I love the Steer-In. I've been a semi regular for 20 years. Home cooked food done with thought and care. I now live in Anderson which makes it a bit less convenient to swing by...but I still do at least once a month.Don't worry about what you order. At the worst it's probably better than anywhere else. It's a great place to enjoy good food and a fun neighborhood.

Another W for the Steer-In! Even if the place is super busy, there are always plenty of parking spots still available. We were able to find quick seating at a 2-person table that was comfortably located under a heat vent on this freezing day. Nailed it! I completely love how they serve their piping hot coffee in heated mugs! Seriously! It's the little things! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when the server brought out my biscuits and gravy. Holy cow! There was no shortage of either biscuits or gravy on my plate. My friend went for the Frisco burger that was warm, hearty, and plated with a copious amount of crinkle fries. My coffee stayed full, everything came in huge portions and filled our bellies, and the servers were lovely as always. It's also such a joy to come here and see the servers chatting with the patrons who are obvious regulars. Love the charm of this local gem!

We had our first visit today, and wish I had gone a long time ago. The service was excellent. I didn't catch her name, but she was so friendly, and really seemed to enjoy interacting with customers - how nice!I'll start with the negative: pass on the beef and noodles. Not a lot of beef, and the dish was not warm. The positive: the French onion soup! Oh my. So good! The kid's spaghetti and meatball and the kid's chicken fingers are a very large portion. They were so busy while we were there. It's seat yourself, so don't be shy. Pick a table and order some great food!

An Indianapolis legend - certified by G. Fieri himself! The Eastside of Indianapolis has its gems but this is for sure the best of them all. You can make a reservation or try to wait in line at some trendier places in Fountain Square or downtown but they got nothing on the Steer-In. Seat yourself after you park in the massive parking lot, better food and none of the difficulty. Value is unbeatable, you'll walk out of here thinking you beat inflation like you are J. Powell himself. Coffee is not great but it's standard diner fare, you're here for calories anyway. Breakfast is your best move but don't sleep on the later options. Best meatloaf in town and they even have pizza.

5 stars for service & food. The Steer-In is VERY much an old school diner, but dang.... great food and attentive service. Every time I've enjoyed Steer-In, they treat me like family. (The good kind ). Never rushed, you can sit & enjoy conversation while relishing in your homemade entree. Even their cheese sauce IS REAL CHEESE! The tenderloin sandwich is a home run as are the menu stars, beef & noodles, meatloaf, and Reuben. I could go on. If you want a solid meal at a reasonable price with great service- steer in to the Steer-In.

Fun little historic hole in the wall joint! I had the chicken strips, they were great (very hot and fresh!). The pork tenderloin sandwich my husband had was great. Service was attentive, and it's definitely a place where regulars hang out and enjoy their coffee and lunch. Worth stopping in!

We have driven to the Steer-Inn often from the far North side of Indianapolis. After seeing the health codes they violated and were shut down as a result, I doubt we will return. All of the violations appear to be poor management and obvious before inspection......dirty plates and utensils, infestation of mice and dead rodents in kitchen. Does not give me any confidence these obvious issues would be addressed when they reopen. Good bye Steer-Inn.
