If you want to hear some fantastic voices, get thee to the opera! The Indianapolis Opera is Indiana's major opera company and performances are usually of excellent quality (Disclaimer: I've done performances with IO in the past!). It's definitely a performing arts organization to look into!During this IO season, they are definitely making strides to utilize the Basile Opera Center more frequently, rather than just Clowes Memorial Hall, which is awesome! This new facility allows patrons to be right in the action as the space is much smaller and definitely more intimate. There is definitely something for everyone this season, from more traditional musical theater, to family-friendly, to large scale opera! And the prices aren't too bad either, usually starting around $18-25. So, what are you waiting for!? Take in an evening (or afternoon) at the opera, you might just like it!

Having seen Madame Butterfly only this afternoon, I am high on the passion that opera can bring. I'm so glad that the Indianapolis Opera puts on the amazing performances it does, as the grace and beauty of the performances truly add to my life in Indianapolis. Some day I plan to be a "season ticket holder" as I continue to explore my increasing love for opera, something I discovered only in the last few years. Some of the fundraising events and opera-awareness events that I somehow keep ending up at have been truly fun as well. I was able to secure a free ticket through Yelp to Lobsterfest recently and I had an amazing time: lobster, clam chowder, clams & oysters, corn, potatoes, vodka-cocktails, wine, fun lobster hats, and a photo booth made for spectacular fun! I've only told 20-30 of my friends that they need to go with me next year, so I hope to be back! At a happy hour I was invited to through a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend, I truly enjoyed meeting staff and those involved with the opera, who were all incredibly friendly and fun people, making the shows even more worth attending.
