The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra made its debut in 1984 under the name Musicians of the Cloister. In 1987, the organization changed its name to Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. In 2007, ICO joined the Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival as Orchestra-in-Residence - this is an honor that continues to this day. In 2012-2013, it also became Orchestra-in-Residence for the Butler University Schrott Center for the Arts. In 2015, ICO released its first commercial CD "Momentum 21." I've seen ICO more than once - most recently at Garfield Park, an ideal location for this smaller orchestra as they played beautifully surrounded by the sounds of nature and an absolutely stunning day. ICO has nearly 2,500 supporters, nearly 40 seasons, 235+ performances played, and 34 musicians. ICO's mission is to advance and promote music composed for the small orchestra through professional concert performances and education programs. They have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion on their website and in their practices. As I began exploring their concert season for this year, I was impressed that they openly had references to accessible seating. As a wheelchair user, I'm often used to the idea that I have to go hunting for the information. The Schrott Center for the Arts is quite accessible. You can buy season tickets or individual concerts. They also do educational programming including virtually. Matthew Kraemer is the music director and principal conductor. While ISO gets an awful lot of attention here in Indy, I actually really love ICO with its smaller orchestra and more intimate sound. There's a passion that comes alive that I really appreciate and these artists have unique programming and a true sense of adventure in terms of what they'll perform. If you've never been to an ICO performance, I highly recommend it.

We love attending Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra concerts! Each concert is unique and carefully programmed to delight and surprise the audience and the guest artists are second to none. Maestro Matthew Kraemer brings new energy to the concert hall and has elevated the musicianship of the orchestra. We really enjoyed the concert with Angela Brown last month and can't wait to see what this season has in store!

The Indianapolis Chamber is one of the top chamber orchestras in the United States, performing a wide range of classical works in the Schrott Center for the Arts on the campus of Butler University. The level of musicianship and the quality of soloists under the baton of maestro Matthew Kraemer make the ICO a must attend for music lovers in Central Indiana.

We went to a performance at Butler of the ICO. They played three sets (sorry if it is not called a set). Each set was with a different mix of instruments. Our favorite was when the grand piano was on the stage, but they were all great!

I love this orchestra. They have an amazing maestro who is constantly bringing new music and new twists to standard classical pieces that are wonderful to experience. We loved the opening night with Indy's own Angela Brown. Can't wait for next concert date in 11-19!

A great asset to the community ! The music director, Matthew Kraemer, is a wonderful conductor and always surprises with innovative concert programs that mixes hidden gems with audience favorites. The musicians are top-notch, many teach at Butler or other colleges in the Midwest. The ICO's home, the Schrott center for the Arts, on the Butler campus is an excellent venue - easy parking, great views from all seats and excellent acoustics. If you go to one of their concerts, you will not be disappointed.
