I was here for a conference and saw this cute theatre and decided to go see the Christmas Carol. This Theatre had a beautiful architectural structure inside and out. We sat in the first row balcony, and I thought it was probably one of the best seats in the house. The seating is kind of tight, you will definitely feel a little snug. The price for our seats were around $50 with service fees and taxes, which I find to be very reasonable . They do a Q&A after The show which I thought was a nice touch. They have a place set up where you can take pictures with a backdrop. I would definitely come back to see something else at this theater.

Little shop of horrors! What a phenomenal play and the cast was outstanding!!! Definitely a must see!!! Loved how the plant got bigger and even talked! Convenient parking on the street or they have garage parking for $6 just for the theater.

I have to two amazing shows at the IRT and will continue to go to more! The location downtown is in a really good spot with several options for $6 parking validation and lots of nearby restaurants to eat before or after the show. Most recently we went to see The Christmas Carol. I love that the venue is more on the cozy size. So there isn't a bad seat in the house and you don't have to worry about getting a "nose bleed" seat.I also love their food and drink options. I love Punkin Pies from the Amp and they have their treats for sale at the IRT as well!

I went as a chaperone for my school to see A Christmas Carol. The building is beautiful. Each row of seats is elevated higher than the row in front of it, so everyone is able to see. The actor and actresses did a great job with the play. It even held the attention of the 5th and 6th grade students. It was the best version of A Christmas Carol I have seen, and make me want to see other plays the put on. If you haven't seen A Christmas Carol here, and love Christmas, it's a must!

So, on Friday February 3rd I went to see play Flyin' West by Pearl Cleage at the IRT downtown Indy. I got there at 6:40pm to do valet parking for $25(bring cash), it was a very cold Friday night, and since I was early I was able to explore IRT to see the costumes, read the descriptions of the costumes, and it was really cool to see the work of art of the costumes. A little history of IRT The Indiana Repertory Theatre was founded by Ben Mordecai, Greg Poggi, and Ed Steen in 1972. Theatre moved to its current site on Washington Street in 1980, renovating and reopening a building that had been shuttered for nearly a decade. The historic Indiana Theatre was built in 1927, a time when the shameful practice of racial segregation was the standard in movie theatres and public buildings across the United States. The Indiana Theatre building was originally segregated and at some point in its history this practice ceased. Many Indiana residents and their families' heritage stories recall being treated as less than equal citizens in this building, with some even being barred from entering. We cannot erase this history. We honor and respect all those who have faced discrimination and harm in this building. We strive every day to make the IRT a place that welcomes all people. My first time actually going to see an IRT play was back in 2018 where I seen play Pipeline. When, I decided to go see Flyin' West I'm glad I was able to get there early to see how beautiful the historic building really is, and IRT celebrates 50yrs this 2023 season. I did valet parking, it's highly recommend to bring cash to tip as well as to pay for valet. Although, I didn't drink any alcoholic beverages I remember seeing two drinks named after play Flyin' West which were Midwest, and Nicodemus. Flyin' West took place in the Fall in Kansas 1898 an all black town called Nicodemus, Kansas. The play is about four strong black women( Sophie, Miss Leah, Fannie, and Minnie). Thirty- five years later after the Emancipation Proclamation where these women had to fight to make a place for themselves as free citizens and land owners. Flyin' West was originally commissioned and produced by the Alliance Theatre Company, Atlanta, Georgia in the early 1990s, and in 1994 Indianapolis IRT had on their stage Flyin' West play. The play was phenomenal, the writing, design, producing just really good. IRT does have other amazing plays in the historic building, and if you never been to an IRT play make 2023 a must see a good play there.

There are few things more important to me than live theatre. There are few places I prefer to see live theatre more than at Indiana Repertory Theatre, a downtown Indianapolis institution that was founded in 1972 and has grown into one of the U.S.'s leading regional theatres. In 1991, the Indiana General Assembly designated the IRT as the "Theatre Laureate" of the state of Indiana. Creativity has always been a strong focus in my life and during my young adult years it was expressed through theatre. I was a Theatre minor in college and often found myself volunteering, working behind the scenes, and occasionally on-stage at Indy's theatre groups. I have a personal connection to the IRT as my father was one of the construction leads for the IRT's major renovation. The IRT is the largest fully professional resident not-for-profit theatre in Indiana and is known nationally as one of the most youth-friendly professional theatres in the country. The IRT spent its first eight seasons at downtown's Athenaeum before moving into its present building which was formerly known as the Indiana Theatre when built in 1927. While most people associate IRT with its OneAmerica Stage, the IRT actually has three performance spaces including the UpperStage and Cabaret. It also has work spaces and public spaces available for rental. In addition to its regular season offerings, the IRT offers new play development, volunteer opportunities, regular "Meet the Artist" activities, educational programs, student matinees, and classes/workshops. Because the IRT operates as a not-for-profit, it is able to keep ticket prices more reasonable and regularly receives around 45% of its operating income from donations and grants. Its latest show, "The Book Club," was even streamed online (with a live audience), in response to the pandemic. It was an amazing and wonderful offering. "A Christmas Carol" is one of IRT's most beloved shows. It regularly makes a return during the holidays. The IRT also employees over 100 seasonal and year-round employees along with a slew of volunteers. I pass by the IRT every day on my way to work. I love the marquee and the front of the theatre. It just makes me smile each and every time I pass by it. While my own creativity is primarily expressed through writing these days, my love for theatre remains and there are few artistic organizations as wonderful as Indiana's own Indiana Repertory Theatre. If you haven't gotten the chance to check out a show, I highly recommend it.

I hadn't been to the IRT for a few years and after attending a play this year, I'm sorry to have not gone more often. IRT always does a top notched job with productions. We went to see The Watson's Go to Birmingham. It was fantastic. it was a great way to show a major real life event (the racial church bombing in Birmingham that killed 4 little girls) and help people understand the detrimental effects, emotion, turmoil, and wrong behind it - through the experience of a family.
