Awesome, awesome, awesome, this park is awesome. There is tons of parking, a fitness/story trail, an art exhibit, sensory friendly music area, basketball court and a modern playground. They also have three covered pavilions, with picnic tables and grills that are available to rent. I actually had one of my kids birthday parties there. There is also a restroom facility, which is closed during the winter. They had two porta-pottys set up in front of the facility when I was there. Additionally, the park has a wheelchair accessible trail (zero grade, 1/4 mile asphalt) and a 3/4 mile asphalt hiking trail. It is open from dusk to dawn. The playground is all accessible have some nice equipment, including an interactive arch. The ground is made of the rubbery service that does not get your kids dirty, and protects them from scrapes. Right next to the playground is the sensory music area and a little kids basketball goal, that stands about 3 or 4 feet high. I dunked a few balls to make sure it was in good working order. The park is well maintained. The hiking trail is dual purpose, it is a story trail and a fitness trail. There are kids' storyboards all along the trail to read as you move from one to the next. The story is changed seasonally. There is also fitness equipment, such as pull up bars and parallel bars, spaced along the trail as well for those that want the fitness option. The basketball court is a full court and is decent. The rims have nets, which is a plus. What I really like about the park is that it is far off of the road, giving it a more quiet and tranquil feel. At the front of the park as an art exhibit consisting of painted rocks signifying how everyone is different.

Independence Park is a 13.5 acre Johnson County Park that lays claim to having been Indiana's first truly disability friendly, wheelchair friendly park when it was first constructed in the year 2000. The park recently also has experienced some upgrades and new playground equipment given that much has changed in the world of accessible even over the last 20 years. The park includes a wheelchair friendly trail (asphalt, zero grade). There's also a 3/4 mile asphalt hiking trail. Independence Park has three shelters available for rental - all wheelchair accessible. The park also includes a wheelchair accessible basketball court, a newly remodeled playground with inclusive equipment for ages 2-12, a rubberized surface underneath each component, an interactive YALP Sona Arch, a sensory friendly music area, a large gazebo with benches that overlooks the playground area, and a Johnson County Public Library StoryWalk with books that change seasonally. I had the opportunity to experience the park with a friend whose child has a disability and the child had an absolute blast and was able to participate in all the available activities. You simply can't replace that kind of inclusivity. The park is near Center Grove Schools. Like most public parks, it's open dawn to dusk and the parking area is locked at dusk. While Independence Park isn't necessarily the fanciest park in Central Indiana, it's certainly a nice one and the recent upgrades only make it even better. If you're a Southside/Johnson County resident and have a child with a disability, this park is certainly a great destination where your child won't be left out of playing with other children. I tried the trail, it's a short one, and it certainly should be doable for most individuals in a wheelchair including power chairs and/or someone able to push their own manual chair.

This park has recently been renovated. Over $300,000 has been invested in new, innovative, safe play equipment for children of all ages and skill levels. There are tons of climbing and spinning options, multiple and varied slides, swings, and a merry-go-round. Bathrooms are convenient and clean. There are handicapped provisions as well. I loved the new Mommy-and Baby swing design. This park has always been the closest, but put least visited in the past. Now, it will be our most visited. A+++There is also a walking track, mini basketball goal, monkey bars. And Pavillion with picnic tables! The only improvement I'd suggest is adding some shade for the play areas. It's pretty hot in the sun.

Recently renovated Independence Park remains one of the best parks in Greenwood, IN. It was the first park in Indiana designed for people with disabilities. The new play area is full of great new equipment that is sure to keep ppl of all abilities to entertained. There is a 3/4 mile paved walking trail that has a bit of a slope, not enough to stress about just enough to get you blood flowing and heart beating. There are a few covered picnic areas. A basketball court. Bathroom facilities open in the summer (in the winter they sometimes offer porta-potties but I'd definitely use the restroom at home prior to my visit - just in case!) For those of you who play Pokémon go the park has 4 gyms and a few stops. Always a fun place to play. It opens at dawn and closes at dusk and has a locking gate, so no stragglers will be left behind

Really not much to add that the other reviewers haven't already put here. This is a great little park near the "hub" of Center Grove schools (the high school, Middle School Central, and CG Elementary) with a playground situated on top of a hill. This is on the list to be renovated in the near future and while you can tell it's a bit older based on the wear and tear on the equipment, it's really held up extremely well. Nothing looks broken, just looks like it's been through a few years of Indiana weather. Not much you can do about that! The surprise petting zoo from the neighboring property is a nice surprise and definitely not something you'll see listed on the park's amenities, but the animals are very friendly and happy to see your kids!

This is a really nice park west of Greenwood near the Center Grove Schools. Although electric transmission lines run over the eastern edge of the open space (including the driveway as you enter), the playgrounds, shelters, and most of the park are far enough away to make the wires and towers nothing more than an eyesore. As you drive the winding blacktop road up to the top of the hill, you get a good view of the open area where there is a hiking trail that has some physical workout stations along the way. At the hilltop, there is a parking lot that surrounds a central shelter. A restroom building is to the right of the parking lot.Beyond the central shelter, there is a large playground that has equipment for bigger kids separated from the pieces designed for the littler ones. There is a mini basketball court beyond one of the most diverse swing set collections I've seen in Central Indiana. There are swings of all sizes and configurations so that infants and kids who need wheelchairs can enjoy a good swing!Beyond the swings is also a music area where kids can bang away on a variety of "instruments" to make music...or maybe just noise. Each end of the playgrounds has another shelter and across from the south end shelter is a full sized basketball court that seemed in good shape.I did notice that a number of the large shade trees that line the north and west edges of the park have been cut down since my last visit. Still, there is plenty of shade surrounding the playground, but none directly over the equipment. Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash and the park generally has hours of sunrise to sunset. Now that school is back in session, the park has few attendees during the day. But during the summer, it can get crowded quite rapidly, so plan accordingly.Review #1356

I recently visited the park with a friend and her toddler. She's two years old and LOVES this place. Lots of things to climb and areas to explore. It offers a few benches and picnic tables for moms and dads to hang out on while the kids play. The most unique part of this park, though, is that the neighboring property has goats! Kids seem to think this is the coolest thing. Parking is a bit tricky on nice days, but it's doable. There's a nice paved trail that goes around the property, too, with educational stops along the way.

I really love this park! They have swings for babies and for the disabled (which is rare). There's also a farm of some kind behind the park and the goats and chickens come right up to the fence. I was able to pet a baby goat! 2 different playgrounds, one for big kids and one for little. They have bbqs and picnic tables, some covered and some not. A lot of birthday parties going on yesterday. It was really a nice time.

Our family loves Independence Park! It's just the right size - not too big and not too little. There's always people there but is never crowded. There's a smaller playground for the little ones, and a bigger playground for bigger kids. Swings, including for babies and disabled children. A large and small half basketball courts. A trail that goes around the park. A couple of shelter areas for parties. And a restroom!

It was a beautiful park, well put together!!!I could appreciate the convenience it made for children who had needs that couldn't be met at other parks. The walking path was clean and safe just a little small for my liking but I would 100 percent go back and enjoy the peaceful vibe this park gave!!!!!!!
