This is one of the best parks I've visited in central Indiana, and if you look at my Yelp review history, you'll see I've visited a lot of parks! This lady knows her parks, mmmkay?Hummel Park in Plainfield is impressive for many reasons: it's huge (205 acres!), it has multiple playgrounds (like 4!), it has a splash pad, it has a baseball field and basketball courts, it has a great area to creek stomp with lots of shallow places for kids to wade, it has paved walking trails, it has a bridge, it has a amphitheater, it has clean restrooms, and a lot more that I'm forgetting. Also, it's really clean and well-taken-care-of. People with kids definitely need to visit this park. Like I said, there are four different playgrounds, so you could spend a lot of time here going from playground to another. The biggest playground area is located in the southeast part of the park. This playground includes a vintage twirly slide, but also a more modern playground structure with multiple slides, tunnels, bridges, monkey bars, poles to slide down and rope ladders to climb up. The playground is accessible to kids of all abilities, and includes a ramp entrance into the playground structure. This part of the park also has swings, including a saucer swing, as well as a separate playground for toddlers, and a big sand box.The splash pad is located in this area of the park, too. It's a great size for toddlers. I wouldn't visit this park just for the splash pad, because there are other parks in the area with bigger splash pads, but it's nice that there's one here and that it's so close to the playground. There is another playground near the performing arts center, which includes a toddler playground and a playground for bigger kids. A short walk away from this playground is a nature playground, with manufactured boulders and rope webs that kids can climb and explore.Paved trails offer an easy walk or stroll. As you meander through the park, you'll probably cross over a bridge that's suspended over White Lick Creek, which runs through the middle of this park, and it flows from the north part of the park to the south part. There are five small lakes within Hummel Park, including Blue Heron Lake. Hummel Park is also a great place to go creek stomping, because the creek bed includes many shallow areas where kids can wade in the water.I've heard that the sledding hill at Hummel Park is amazing, so I'll have to visit in the winter with my kids.

Wow, wow, wow!!!!! This park is impressive. It is huge I saw three individual sections personally (Blue Heron Lake area, West end and East End), covering over 200 acres. Each section is accessed from different entrances and has separate parking lots. So, you cannot drive directly from one to the next. When you think you have explored all of the park, you come across another area. It has everything a park should have. There are two basketball courts, two sand volleyball courts, three baseball fields, some pavilions, an amphitheater, a few playgrounds, a splash pad, restroom facilities, a lake, and a paved walking/jogging trail that goes for miles. The grounds of the park is well maintained. The playgrounds have nice equipment. The main playground has a few swings, a massive spiral slide, a swinging saucer, and a huge jungle gym. All the playgrounds' floors are either lined with rubber foam or wood chips. The baseball fields are very nice, but they are also locked and must be reserved in advance to play on. The pavilions are all over the park and come in different shapes and sizes. They have gazebo style pavilion, large ones and you standard ones. They all have picnic tables and grills and can all be reserved for different prices. The paved trail is well maintained and goes around Blue Heron Lake. two sections of the park are separated by White Lick Creek and easily accessed by crossing over a bridge. With it 3 paths, Red Maple, Cottonwood, and Blue Heron, you can trek for miles and miles. On the section of the park with the amphitheater is a large hill that can be used for sledding during the winter and working out during the summer. The amphitheater lawn can host 1,500 people so it can hold some decent sized outdoor concerts. The park also has lakes that are stocked with catfish, bass and blue gill and available for fishing.I love this park. You can entertain the little ones for hours. There is tons to do. There is not only a few playgrounds, but there is hundreds of yards of green space to run around and play. This park really do has everything and would be a great place to host a party. I am looking forward to coming back.

As my granddaughters grow, they have become much more interested in the largest playground at Hummel Park. It appears to be the newest playground equipment there, with I believe 6 slides of varying heights and skill levels of climbing to reach. My toddler granddaughters call this the "slide park," and they absolutely love it. I wish I could get more pictures, but keeping after a 2 and 3 year old both makes it hard to stop and take photos sometimes. I love that there are many different climbing pieces to get up to the various platforms in the ginormous jungle gym. It's listed as being for children aged 2-7, with some supervision. My 3 year old granddaughter has mastered the entire main towers/jungle gym portion, but the backside climbers and twirling sections are obviously for taller children. My 2 year old granddaughter needs help with most other climbing sections, but there are several easy entry points and one ramp. There is also a large balancing/bouncy balance beam and spinning seats that are a lot of fun. The entire section is surrounded by a fence with only one way to enter/exit. I absolutely love that feature, since I'm managing a pair of toddlers. This section alone keeps my granddaughters entertained for well over an hour and they always fight leaving. Great park!

Good place to have fun with your kids, friends, family, or dogs. Also has good trails and great natural scenery. Performances are good as well and it is one of the best places to hang out on 4th of July.

Wonderful park for the family, couples, bicyclists, runners, walkers, events, meetings, or just meets. It's a huge place with multiple entrances depending on what you're there to do. The playground area is huge. There are shelters and the bathroom buildings are always clean. There are lots of offerings for outdoor activities as well, tennis, basketball, paved path around park, and loads of parking.

Great park with many hiking trails, bicycle and walking track and beautiful scenery. There is also a splash pad in the Summer months for kids and a creek you can play in! I'm happy to call this my home park :)

Great local park. New playground equipment is nice, though I do wish that they had invested in a more modern set up. It's very traditional.Lots of open space for running, biking, and exploring. Check out the creek. It's beautiful. The splash pad is great in the summer, but the area around it could use some love and landscaping... and perhaps some adequate drainage. It gets very muddy and soupy, which is not a good thing when it comes to children. There will be mud (in the car). Oh yes. There will be mud.

Located in Plainfield, Indiana, Hummel Park is a 205-acre wonder park, a tremendous township park that offers so many amenities that it would honestly be difficult to use them all in a single day. I have zero qualms about saying that Hummel Park is definitely a worthy destination park. I visited Hummel Park today as part of a volunteer gig for Self-Advocates of Indiana at their annual picnic. They were located inside Charleston Pavilion, an area that is accessed via a back entry way that can be a little tricky to find unless you're familiar with the area. If there's one fault with Hummel Park, it's that there's no true through-drive from the front entrance. You truly have to travel around the city streets along the park in order to get around to the back entryway of the park. That's a wee bit of a pain, but that's also incredibly worth it. The park is large enough that it has an office that is open Monday-Friday during typical business hours. I did one of my Tenderness Tour events in the park a couple years ago and was super impressed with the friendliness of staff as I found myself getting lost in the area. The park offers a community center, Charleston Pavilion (a very large area that can be rented and easily accommodated our crowd of 500 people today), a performing arts center, multiple shelters and gazebos, a baseball/softball complex, trails, lakes, and a splash pad. I mean, seriously. This is one beautiful park. Each amenity seems to come with its own parking lot. The parking lots are all decently sized and they all offer accessible parking. In the Charleston Pavilion area, I had zero problems accessing every area being utilized in my wheelchair either via sidewalk or nearly flat ground. The community center offers a banquet area with a warming kitchen. Alcohol is restricted throughout the entire park. The Charleston Pavilion has 4,500 square feet of covered space - that coverage came in handy today on one of Indy's hottest days in quite some time. The performing arts center has lawn seating for up to 1,500 and has accommodated both local and relatively known national acts (mostly of the nostalgia variety). I believe there are multiple trails that tie into the park - Plainfield has been super ambitious with its trail system and I've traveled all of them by wheelchair with zero concerns. Overall, there's pretty much nothing to complain about here. Hummel Park is large enough that you can have a gathering and have true privacy. You can enjoy pretty much all areas of the park with lots of inter-connectedness with the exception of dealing with the front/back issue of the park. That's a minor concern (and actually, you can "walk" it - you simply can't drive from the front section to the back section within the park). The heavily wooded park is beautiful, comfortable, and everyone I encountered was friendly. Hummel Park is definitely one of Central Indiana's true gems when it comes to parks, nature, and facilities.
