The decor was so cute in this place . They had lots of space. Great for families! Or just a place for a great Home cooked meal !

It is temporarily closed due to the owner's cancer. July 28 they posted on Facebook "We expect that 2-3 months if all goes well, that she will be able to begin the process of RE-OPENING THE RESTAURANT"

Realistically, this is probably a 4-star place but it is such an out of place find in the middle of small town Illinois that I subjectively upgraded my review. We found this place completely by accident when flying over to Ohio to visit our daughter at college. The weather changed abruptly and we had to turn around and find somewhere to put it on the ground until the snow moved out of the area. After landing at Crawford County airport we asked the owner of the FBO for a recommendation and he told us about this place. He also recommended their tenderloin sandwich. They are only open during the middle of the day on the weekends so we got lucky on the timing. The wife and I split the tenderloin and their special of the day which was a cup of chili and a grilled cheese sandwich. It was a late lunch and the smell of the tenderloin cooking damn near killed me while we were waiting for lunch to arrive. When it did, we knew in an instant that we had made a good choice when we took the recommendation to visit this restaurant. The tenderloin was very clearly hand cut, pounded flat and hand-breaded before going for a swim in the fryer. It was absolutely perfect! Crunchy outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The thickness was exactly right such that the breading and meat were properly proportioned and balanced. Most definitely one of the very best pork tenderloin sandwiches I've ever had.The chili was mild but delicious. Thick, meaty and flavorful are probably the best way to describe the experience. The grilled cheese? Pretty much straight out of your grandma's kitchen circa 1975, if you're about my age.Like everything in the place, dessert was also made from scratch. The matron of the family that owns the place makes all of their pies and very clearly doesn't cut corners.

This is a new place in the county. And it's off to a good start. Be warned, there are no road side signs, so look for cars in front of their distinctive building. Really fun, western, rustic restaurant theme. Hitchin Post is essentially a cozy diner. Sunday lunch special is the big hit. Chicken noodles, stuffing, green beans, and more. A decent selection of desserts. Food during my first visit was a tad on the salty side, but haven't had that issue on subsequent visits. Chow has been spot on. Service is quick and friendly. Price can't be beat.I'm withholding one star based on the menu. Standard fare from cover to cover, but a five star joint should have a unique, defining dish that sets it apart. Sunday chicken noodles might be it, but I'd love to see what else they can hash together in the kitchen. Nice place for a good lunch.

This was my first time coming here. I was immediately turned off by my drink being from a can. It seems cheap. The waitress we had was very friendly. I got a cheeseburger and fries and didn't care for either. What was amazing though, were those homemade chippy things for the salsa. They looked crunchy but were so soft and pillowy. I loved those and would go back for those. There was plenty to look around at with the decor and such.

This place is such a hidden gem! My great grandma is at the Magnolia Center, and my family and I were looking for another place other then the usual there right in town. This place was not far at all from the magnolia center , maybe 10 minutes if that. They had AMAZING HOME MADE FOOD. Everything that we got was amazing. From the Appetizers, to main dishes, which was amazing we got the special which was the chicken and dumplings, ( so yummy ) and you got a choice of side , and mashed potatoes, which was all just so good . The last but not least for desert they had HOME MADE PIES. Which is a must , even if you get them to go and eat later , you have to try at least a slice . They are very good. Had the pumpkin and chocolate. And both were gone within seconds ! Highly recommend this place . Was so pleased with the service , it is a family owned restaurant. The two sisters were absolutely wonderful. Very inviting , and polite ! ( oh and there sweet tea was also AMAZING, as well. ) decor was beautiful! Great job!

Discovered this place on yelp. Since I'm working in Robinson I just had to take the short drive to check it out. Fabulous. If you ever get hungry and homesick these good folks will cure ya. Very friendly, great down home cooking. I could no pass on the dinner special: $10 - delicious grilled pork chop, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and biscuit. Did I mention only $10?? Excellent flavor, fall off the bone tender, and real bacon in the green beans! I topped it off w a fabulous homemade peach pie - $3. Heavenly. This place is fantastic! The only reason I gave a 4 not a 5 was that it's cash only. Which I did not know till it was time to settle up. I never carry cash. She was a sweetheart saying I could come back any time w/ the cash. Making a second trip was really worth it. Love the staff and the food

I followed the review in Yelp to find The Hitchin Post when were out of town. It's like an out of the way cabin with a small parking lot. The menu had entrees like the Corral burger, Horseshoe platter, etc, but they lacked a description. I felt like a 1st grader asking the server what's in this, and this ? Our server was great and answered all of my queries with an eager smile. I settled on the Corral burger which had cheese, chili, an onion ring and topped with crushed Doritos. It was deliciously different. Hubby had a burger and fries and said it was good, not uncommonly good, but good. I gave it 4 stars because I like a descriptive menu and I thought that the burgers were pricey because they did not include sides. I was eager to try the chocolate pie but they were out so I tried the Spanish custard. Go for it if you have a sugar tooth, literally.

Stopped because of Yelp. It's a little out of the way but the food was excellent. It is home cooking. The green beans had bacon and while speaking with the owner everything is made from scratch with real butter etc. Pictures on the walls are interesting. Signed photo to her grandfather from Festus. For those of you who don't know, he was Matt Dillons sidekick on "Gunsmoke"I took pie to go. Hope it's as good as the pork chop.

Adorable little gem that we stumbled upon during an unplanned stop on our way to visit Allison S. at college last weekend! Not a lot of places to choose from in the area, but you can't go wrong giving this cute little place a try. They are only open for lunch and have a Sunday lunch special each week. It was going to be chicken and dumplings the day after we visited; after trying their food I was almost secretly hoping that we would have to stop on the way home too lolI had cup of chili and a grilled cheese sandwich. Chili was literally served in a teacup and both sandwich and chili really could have been made by my Granny, except she puts spaghetti in her chili. Don't judge. Ben had the tenderloin, which was recommended by the man at the airport. Once I smelled it cooking, I had to stop myself from just heading back into the kitchen to get a sneak peek. Once I took a bite, I could tell that this lady bought a tenderloin, butchered, and pounded it out herself. Also, she home made the breading too! It was a delicious sandwich, also reminiscent of my youth. Fries were also good. Real potatoes. Kid 2 had a horseshoe; she was a little disappointed by the seemingly canned cheese, but still excited to get a horseshoe. For dessert Kid 2 had a piece of chocolate pie. This one was like my other grandma used to make. Chocolate made by hand on a home made flaky delicious crust. I had the peach pie. Real peaches! And minimal goo! This might be a 4 star review in a different location/circumstances, but it is truly as good as it gets in Robinson, IL!!!
