This totally might be conjecture, but I'm wondering if Highland Park was so named because it's literally a park that sits on high land. Get it? Highland. I don't know -- but that sounds like a good guess, doesn't it?Anyway, because the park is a bit elevated, you can get a great view of the downtown Indianapolis cityscape. It's really cool. The park itself is small and is more of a neighborhood park. It has a small playground with a small play structure. It has slides, some bars to climb, and some swings. The play structure is definitely more appropriate for kids ages 5 and under. I think older kids would get bored with it quickly. I would not go out of my way to visit this park just to play at the playground, but I would visit to sit at one of the picnic benches to eat and enjoy the view. Parking is along the street -- there isn't a designated parking lot. There also weren't any restrooms or water fountains that I saw.

This park is more of a neighborhood park. The park is not big. It spans about 4 acres and is the site of Indianapolis 2nd highest elevation. There is limited street parking available for park visitors. The park is very hilly. It is small, but has paved trails walking/running through it. The cement on the trails is a bit crack and like i mentioned there is a lot of hills. The park does however, give you a decent view of the city's skyline. It is touted as a good place to catch the city's annual fireworks or an impressive sunset. The park also has a playground that consists of some older swings and a jungle gym set with slides. The park also has a covered pavilion with picnic tables and a grill. I am not sure if the pavilion is for rent or first come, first serve. In addition to all that, the park has tons of space that can be used for playing catch, throwing a frisbee, or just laying out a blanket and having a nice picnic. The park appears well maintained and loos like it is in an up incoming area. This is a decent park, definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Highland Park is a beautiful combination of feeling quiet and secluded while also getting the best view of downtown. Street parking is easy and free and the Holy Cross neighborhood is really quiet with so many beautiful houses around. There's a nice playground, shelters, picnic tables, and lots of green space and sidewalks to walk through. It is always ranked as one of the best sunset spots in Indy, so it can get crowded at that time. But still worth it and there's plenty of room to spread out. It's always nicely maintained. And right nearby is King Dough, so grab a pizza and come to the park for a sunset picnic!

In the mood for a spectacular sunset and skyline backdrop? Highland Park is a must! We opted to spread out a blanket and people-watch, while others were having picnics and enjoying the crisp late-summer evening and Hoosier sunset. Thankfully, we got lucky and had great lights for the night, and the neighborhood was also super cute, walking along the newer energy-efficient builds. Again, if you're in the mood for a skyline sunset - this is it!

It's more of just a neighborhood park, but the skyline of downtown Indy is amazing from here! We had fun having a picnic and playing on the playground.

This is THE place to go for views of the Indy skyline. It's a small park, but it's up on a hill, so you can soak in views for miles. It's located in a neighborhood and there's only street parking surrounding the park; there's no parking lot. There's a playground and a covered patio area with picnic tables too. The grass was really overgrown when I visited, so hopefully it's maintained soon. This is a fun picnic spot and I'm sure it's pretty at sunset!

Highland park is just a tiny neighborhood park with stellar views of downtown. I like to come here to run because the park has a tiny hill that takes just a little bit more hustle. The playground is just alright but I see plenty of children there. The proximity to Arsenal Tech means you occasionally see students there. It doesn't have a parking lot- this is in the city. It gets really busy for fourth of July and in the summer to watch sunsets. It is decently maintained but parts could definitely use some updating. It is not completely accessible to those with mobility issues but it has some nice paved paths. Just wishing they had a tiny dog park at the bottom of the hill. Also the crosswalk in the middle of the park to go across New York doesn't actually have any lines and the cars go really fast so cross using caution.

No dedicated parking, which is a big problem for me in a large city. The play equipment is in decent shape, there are some repairs here and there from damage over time. The area surrounding park is a mixed bag but it seems like a nice place to walk and take a break. For parents it is good play area for kids of all ages. Slides, swings, monkey bars and more. Plus a trail to walk on and plenty of grass. Not a particularly large park but I would bring the kid back here if parking was available close to the playground.Again the parking was probably the worst part for me.

The best views of the city- for real. This is such an underrated park! A sunset picnic on the hill overlooking the city is very romantic and calming. There is lots of space here to enjoy- I've most recently been here with a volleyball and some friends and we played volleyball for a while on an open green space. There were children playing, picnics happening, and it was such an overall nice spring day. A little bit out of the way of downtown, but still walkable from Mass Ave if you are down for it. Surrounded by a nice neighborhood, we felt very safe here.

I suppose nearly a decade later is about the right time to update a review, right? (err sooner ;) My oh my, how this neighborhood has changed in those eight years. I remember biking over here for a date in 2012 and thinking, "where are we going?!" Now, this is the park just a few blocks from my sister's house in Holy Cross. Just yesterday I was driving by and saw a group of neighbors working out together and thought to myself how much action this park has been seeing as of late with more connectivity to the heart of downtown and the businesses that have been added to the area since then like King Dough and Smoking Goose to name a few.Highland Park features a large green space overlooking the downtown skyline, a paved trail that makes its way around the outer loop of the park, a kids playground, trees for shade and a shelter covering with a few picnic benches. It's not the most stunning park but it offers a lot of green space that serves an open canvas for activating.
