Updating my review, because I got to visit Generations Pie Company in person at their brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Fortville. My last interaction with them was several years ago at the Fishers Farmers Market.I popped into this ultra-purple pie shop and asked the kind woman behind the counter what kind of slices they had. (It turns out, she was the owner!) She rattled off some names, but my ears stopped listening when she said sugar cream pie. It's the official state pie of Indiana, don'tcha know? I love a good sugar cream pie. I got a slice of that. She asked me if I needed it to be put in a bag. I laughed and said no, because I would be eating it in the car. Just give me a fork. She looked taken aback. "IN THE CAR!" she exclaimed.I explained that I would be eating it while driving home."WHILE DRIVING!" she said. I wanted to tell her that everything, including pie, tastes even better when you eat it while driving. There's nothing like holding your slice of pie or pizza or burrito with one hand, while driving with the other hand. Instead, I just smiled and nodded, and she nodded and gave me my pie and fork, and told me to have a good day.My sugar cream pie was good, and it was sturdy enough to ditch the plastic fork and just pick it up and eat it with one hand. Pie straight to the dome as I navigated roundabouts. The custard tasted like it had nutmeg in it, which added a nice spicy dimension. I wasn't a fan of the crust, though -- a little too tough. It tasted like a crust made with lard, not butter, which is not my favorite. At the pie shop, they have a lot of single-slice pies, mini pies and full pies in their refrigerated case, so there is something for every pie lover.

I tend to be hit-and-miss when it comes to pies, but I've come to appreciate Generations Pie Company. Generations, which is actually based in McCordsville, appears at a lot of festivals and farmer's markets around Central Indiana and is a near weekly presence at the Statehouse Market at the Indiana Government Center each Thursday. Generations Pie Company is a Black-owned, Woman-owned business started in 2016 by lifelong Hoosier Maria Johnson. Generations really emphasizes an individualized touch to the point that Each pie at Generations Pie is personalized with the name of the original baker of the recipe along with a brief story to tell. This is a unique, endearing feature and goes along with the fact that anyone I've ever spoken with from Generations has been super friendly and hospitable. While most of the Statehouse Market involves food trucks, Generations is typically present under a Generations-branded canopy. They have right around a couple dozen different pie options along with some sweet breads, cinnamon rolls, and occasional other options. Yes, it's true. They are a bit more expensive than your usual store-bought pies - however, they're definitely on par with most local bakeries and locally owned places. I love the cinnamon rolls. Maria's Peanut Butter Pie is better than sex (Okay, I'm exaggerating - it's still pretty awesome). I really want to Grandma Hattie Leota's Apple Pie, though I've never much been into apple pie and I'm always afraid to insult the grandparents. Maria credits Grandma Hattie with teaching her how to bake. Maria's a graduate of Butler and Anderson University and was working as an accountant until her entrepreneurial spirit got the best of her in 2016 and she started Generations. I'm sure glad she did and I'm sure glad she brings Generations regularly to the Statehouse Market. The main pick-up location for Generations is:GenKit 230 S. Main St Fortville, INTuesday-Friday 12:00-5:00mSaturday 2:00pm-5:00pm(by appt only)Sunday-Monday: Closed(Order 24-48 hours in advance)

During rhubarb season, I tried their strawberry rhubarb version and was very impressed. Great and tasty pie filling and delicious flaky dough. Their pies taste as good as their beautiful packaging that always includes their signature purple ribbon. I haven't been to the store front/kitchen. I purchased at their tent at the Carmel's Farmers Market. If you're looking to get one of their delicious pies- you better arrive early. Support local - you'll be back for more.

I see this company at random special food-related and locally-made events around the Circle City. I have tried samples of their pies and have purchased a cinnamon rolls. They are always very friendly and helpful in answering any questions/concerns you might have. I remember having a chocolate pie sample that was delicious, but I have a weakness for cinnamon rolls, so I went with one of these. Not the best cinnamon roll I've ever had, but they were delicious! Definitely try a sample if you see them out and about at events!

Tried their cinnamon roll at a weekly food truck (they have a tent) gathering at my place of employment. It is quite good, if a little pricey. I would get it again (or try the pecan roll).

Prior to Covid I was looking forward to trying out the pies. Bought Lemon chess pie, small size, and sweet potato pie, also small size. Lemon chess was a new pie taste for me. Sweet potato pie wasn't the sweet taste I was looking for. I will have to try the bourbon pecan next.

I tried winston's chocolate bourbon pecan pie and I think I ascended straight into the heavens. It was delicious. Wish I had a picture to share but I ate it too fast. Going to the farmers market again this weekend specifically for this pie. If I could give 100 stars I would.

We had heard about Generations Pie Company, so we gave it a try this Thanksgiving. Never again. We were so disappointed. First, the man working at the Fortville location was rude when my husband picked up. The caramel apple pie was terrible. It was so watery, the crust was soft. The pumpkin seemed under cooked and very little filling. My family all said a grocery pie would have been better. Thank goodness I had made another dessert. That is what everyone ate. My dad who loves sweets, didn't even want the leftover pie. We threw it out.

Caramel Apple Pie had undercooked crust top and dried out brownish grey apples inside. I purchased a small pie at the Fishers Farmers Market and threw it out.
