I had the opportunity to check out Gallery 924 yesterday while at the adjacent venue The Cabaret. Established in 2010, Gallery 924 is a non-profit art gallery sharing space with The Cabaret and the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Gallery 924 provides a mixture of programming highlighting contemporary Central Indiana artists in curated solo and group shows. The current exhibition is Dehaan Artist of Distinction Group Exhibition that is running from Sept. 3 - October 29, 2021. Included artists are painter Mason Archie, photographer Eric Lubrick, multidisciplinary artist Samuel Levi Jones, and papel picado inspired artist Beatriz Vazquez. This is a relatively small but inviting space that's open 10am-4pm from Tuesday-Friday and by appointment. They are following CDC guidelines and recommendations. The gallery offers free parking across the street in the Lucille Raines parking lot. There's also metered parking along Pennsylvania. Occasionally, you can get lucky and find free spots along 9th Street. The gallery is also on an IndyGo route and it's adjacent to Indy's Cultural Trail. On a budget of less than $2,000 annually, Gallery 924 puts on 10 exhibitions annually empowering mid-career and established artists. The gallery is a participant in the Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealer's Association First Friday Art Tour. Even when the gallery doors are closed, Gallery 924 is working to promote Central Indiana's artists. I honestly loved this little space. It's not the fanciest gallery you'll find, but the energy is positive and the love for artists is obvious. I look forward to returning.

A favorite first Friday stop- especially in December for the Tiny show! I love that the Arts Council and the Cabaret fill this gorgeous old terra cotta clad building, and fill it with life, color, passion, and song. Always fun checking out what's happening in local arts. Appreciate having this place in Indy.

I'd frequently drive by this gallery to get to other downtown destinations, but had never stopped by. As other Yelpers have said, it's right on Pennsylvania and parking is freely available especially when you are visiting in the middle of the week. The shows change monthly. It is a small gallery, but it has plenty of natural light and it is easy to move about. I appreciated the midday break for art and want to come back again!

This gallery features a different artist or collection beginning each month with the IDADA First Friday gathering. The gallery shares the south end of the building that houses the Arts Council of Indianapolis (ACI). ACI coordinates the exhibits which are free to explore during working hours of ACI as well as the evening hours during the First Friday gathering. (There is limited parking in a lot on the south end of the building and street parking.) I first became aware of the gallery in late 2016. As someone who is not schooled in art, but has relied upon my own reaction to whether I like something or not, I have to say that I have had mixed feelings about the shows here. The gallery is relatively small compared to a number I have been to. The focus of each show is narrowed, so maybe that is why the theme changes so widely from month to month. If I had to put a label on what I have seen, I would say that it has been contemporary with some local connection. Although I still find my interest drawn to art that I relate to (realistic landscape paintings and images with bright color palettes), I will admit that the more galleries I visit, the more I appreciate artists that push the envelope of art. There was a time when I didn't like street art, but have grown to see that there are grades of quality. Now, sculpture is one of my favorite types of art when it comes to contemporary design. The point being that it is easy to dismiss art when you don't take time to actually look at it. I did my time in the corporate world, and now that I have retired, I want to make time for the creative and positive. It is easy to destroy, but takes effort and conviction to create something and risk being criticized. I can appreciate the effort even if I don't like the individual piece. And that is why I like to visit Gallery 924. Review #246

Really nice gallery, I've bought there twice. The back part was a roller skating rink when I was a kid.

There are lots of different types of work available at this contemporary gallery from month to month. Some shows are good, some are not.
