The lemon meringue pie, at Gabiel's, in Peru, is to die for! (Almost as good as the Rubin sandwich)

Wait staff was phenomenal. Large portions of delicious food. We went on a Sunday for lunch. There were several people ahead of us, however, we only waited about 10 minutes before we were seated. Bravo Gabriel's!

Great place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Waitress friendly and food was great. Split a breakfast casserole with my husband and they separated it out on 2 plates for us and we were both stuffed. I didn't even get to finish mine. Also bonus as we were able to take our puppy in training to the outside seating area. Easily accessible and great parking along the side of the street for our SUV and tiny camper. 5 out of 5 stars and would definitely recommend.

Of the few places I have been to eat in Peru, I would say Gabriel's is one of the best. It's definitely one of the better choices in town. I actually don't know if any other breakfast joints exist in Peru. There aren't a ton of restaurant options, in general, it seems.Gabriel's has its own parking lot, but when it's full, you will have to park on the street. I have had friendly and attentive waitstaff each time I have stopped in. They have a mixture of booths and tables in the rather large building. It's not divey at all and nice. Comfortable. I'd even say it's cozy despite the size and open space. I have had an alla carte breakfast each time I've had meals here. You can order breakfast for lunch and in the afternoon. I've not visited in the morning, but I am assuming you can order lunch in the AM if you so choose. I love that they have tomato juice and offer a large. I also love their hash browns and that they are willing to add mushrooms for me. They're definitely fresh and not the canned version so many places have. Their hash browns are just the right combination of crispy and soft. It's also great that they have wheat as well as rye toast available. The restaurant is usually clean. The ladies room was a bit of an exception today with sticky floors. I also noticed a large handprint on the window adjacent to the next booth over from us. Other than that, it's tidy. There seems to be a lot of unused space in the room between the entrance/hostess stand and the restrooms. I'm not sure if that's an overflow area for when it's packed, or if it's reserved for special functions, but I've not ever seen anyone dining over there. The biggest unused space, and my largest disappointment, is the beautiful yet empty bar. I do wish Gabriel's would decide to renew their license and server liquor and beer. It'd be so nice to have a beer with lunch. I'd imagine people might appreciate bloody Marys and mimosas with breakfast, but maybe that's not a desire around these parts. With my experience in the industry, I would be open later for dinner and serve alcohol. That is another disappointment for this night owl that Gabriel's closes at 3 PM. I would definitely visit more often if they were open later and had the bar open. Despite my complaints about Gabriel's being a dry establishment that is more suited for early risers, it is a nice little place. There is a bit of a lack of vegetarian friendly dishes, but I make due with what is available. It's a plus that they are gracious about additions and substitutions. I will continue to visit and bring my friends in when they're in town. I just hope that one day I can sit and enjoy a cold beer or mixed drink from that epic bar.

A breakfast diner gem in Peru, Indiana. This place was cozy with great service, and delicious breakfast comfort foods. When visiting family in the area, I ate here twice within the week and each time the food was perfect. Cinnamon roll pancakes, malted belgian waffles, giant biscuits the size of cat heads, breakfast skillets - everything was delicious. The half-order biscuits and gravy for $5 is plenty big enough because the biscuit is so big. It's a simple drop biscuit as far as I can tell, but the gravy is sausage-y and peppery. If you want eggs + biscuits & gravy, just get the Dixie Breakfast (it is sorta hidden on the menu). They offer lots of other lunch/dinner options, but it is hard to think about that when you can choose Cinnamon Roll pancakes. I stick to breakfast foods at most diners, and this is deeply satisfying breakfast food. The small town of Peru is a perfect stop if you are passing through on a roadtrip, and I would recommend breakfast at Gabriel's followed by some fresh bread and pastries for the road from the German bakery a few blocks away.

I was meeting family halfway between South Bend and Indianapolis and opted to meet at Gabriel's for breakfast and it did not disappoint. The menu offers a large selection and we actually debated between breakfast and lunch - breakfast won.Our group had a couple of omelets, a cinnamon roll pancake platter (huge) and a breakfast platter with pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage. The boys also ordered sides of hash browns which were enough for a full meal. One of the omelets was the wrong items, but opted to keep rather than having it remade correctly. Our server was friendly and checked in on our regularly.Definitely worth a visit!

We are from out of town so don't get here often but every chance we get down to that area, Gabriel's is our CHOICE. We now have family and friends meeting us there on special occasions also.

Been going here for years but recently noticed how completely filthy the inside of the restaurant is. Filth was everywhere. On the furniture, the table, everywhere. It made me wonder how safe or clean the kitchen and/or the food was to eat. Just saying. :)

Absolutely a food lover's menu with a huge number of choices for breakfast or lunch. The food they serve is plentiful and comes out at the temperature it should be. All the meals I've had there have been delicious, although their coffee is not the best.
