The tacos and tamales are fresh and wonderful at El Gigante. The shop is located in an older strip mall south of 86th street on Michigan Road. The taqueria was bustling during our lunchtime visit with people waiting for takeout orders or dining in. The dining room is dated, but clean. You order at the counter. The clerk is friendly and patient as we select. Parts of the menu are in Spanish, so I have to concentrate because I barely habla. I order tacos and a tamale and pick a deep fried chicharron from a case. The clerk brings the food to the table in about 10 minutes. The tacos (asada and pollo) are beautiful and delicious. The ingredients fresh. The Pollo Mole tamale is super hot and steamy. The tamale is large with a lot of chicken stuffing and mole sauce. I love it. Hey, the place is not fancy, but the food is wonderful and the service friendly. I'll be back. There's plenty of parking but you have to maneuver Indiana potholes.

Good service, food came out quickly and was good. I ordered the Cubana Torta (loaded with breaded chicken, ham, beans, avocado, and an egg). And my wife ordered red pork tamales with rice and beans. I had a Coca Cola (I liked how they had Mexican cola in the glass bottles) and my wife had her favorite horchata (Mexican rice drink). We will be back.

Came here a few times already and loved it every time! This is hands down my favorite taco place on Michigan Road and maybe even Indianapolis. The place is a small shop in a strip mall off Michigan with a few other local shops and restaurants and could be easy to miss if your driving down Michigan.I ordered the puerco taco and the chorizo taco along with a pollo verde tamale. The pork taco tasted like it had been marinating for a while in seasonings and oil before being put on to the taco. The chorizo was nice and spicy which cut through the fat perfectly. I each taco was topped with plenty onions and cilantro to balance out the strong flavors of the meats. The tamales was also really well made. It was stuffed with shredded chicken and a spicy green sauce. They were stuffed so much that some chicken was actually coming out on the end. Overall a really good local taco spot serving up classic Mexican style tacos. Again it's not the type of bougie toco place that makes it way on to Yelp or Instagram, it's a great local spot at really affordable prices.TL:DR Heavy on tacos, Light on Instagram.

The tacos are delicious and authentic. Great customer service as well. I had the steak and tongue tacos. There was a bit more fat on the steak than I like, but still delicious.

Food was great and in huge portions. Service was quick but you have to know that all orders are ala carte. It is storefront not fine dining but I'd choose it for the flavor and authenticity over any fast food Mexican chain store.

This exact location has changed owners and names multiple times over the years, and they've all been Mexican food. Now, it's El Gigante Tamale Shop & Taqueria. I visited looking for tamales for Christmas, and I left with tamales! They weren't the tamales I wanted (I wanted pork with red sauce) because they had run out of them. I guess that's my fault, as Christmas is a very popular time to eat tamales, especially the traditional pork ones. The chicken tamales were good, though -- I got some with red sauce and some with green sauce. They are very masa-forward, so if you like tamales with lots of masa, then you'll like these. I preferred the green chile tamales more than the red chile. What I didn't enjoy was my carne asada burrito. They chop the asada very finely, so it's almost like ground beef. I didn't enjoy it. All of the burritos come with white cheese, rice, beans, sour cream, lettuce, tomato and onions. I opted for a burrito with everything except the sour cream, lettuce and tomato (because those three are an abomination on a burrito). So, no bueno. But I enjoyed their tamales, and I might be back to try a pork tamale when they have them again.

Just visited this restaurant, El Gigante. Chicken Tamales were excellent . Also ordered Chicken Quesadilla. Both orders were made with fresh ingredients and were very tasty. The place is dated but clean. The staff was very nice and the food was at our table in 10 mins. It was early Saturday, so not many people were there in there, but many takeouts. We will go back when we come back to town.

I said "I need three burritos" and she said "ok, pick up will be ready in ten minutes." That's exactly what the world needs. Quick, reliable burritos. So happy to have found this spot. Great food. Great service. Great place.
