By far this is the best authentic Mexican restaurant in town.It might lack of marketing but hidden jewels don't need it.Fandangos Inc its a mexican restaurant from the south state of Oaxaca, surroundings might not be very the best but it's a very good place with plenty of parking. Now, about the food...start by picking one of the tasty fresh drinks (tamarind, pineapple, hibbiscus, watermelon and hibbiscus known as Jamaica). Then, I suggest to try one of the many "antojitos" which are considered street food or as it's translation would be "little cravings".One of them and a must in Mexican cuisine from the region of Oaxaca is tlayudas a giant crunchy tortilla or flatbread covered with refried pinto beans, shredded Oaxaca cheese and your choice of meat folded in half like a plate-sized quesadilla. It's about 11 dllsEmpanadas, very tasty chicken, cheese or mix of both ingredients.Huarache, meaning sandals is corn dough fried, covered with pinto beans and your choice of meat that is the size of the plate.Sope, pretty much the same as in huarache but round shape and little. If you want a little more food than that go for the enchiladas or enmoladas the first ones are tortilla rolls filled with chicken covered in green sauce; enmoladas are the same tortilla rolls covered with mole sauce (mole is a sauce made with different peppers that is not spicy with a hint of sweet flavor because it's cooked with chocolate.Enmoladas come with rice, beans and steak.Of course as any Mexican restaurant it has tacos and tortas but the rest explained is their specialities.Last but not least give it a try to the crickets fried and with certain spices that are unique from Oaxaca.

I've been going to this place since about 2007/2008 and started at a time when Indy was going through an amazing period of Mexican restaurants. I would have been pressed to believe that in 2023 Fandangos would be the one left standing of my old favorites that have now all sadly closed down. El Sol De Tala on West Washington was the abuelo of everything in this city - excellent food and margaritas (hard to find a place with both, usually one or the other) that seemed to be also the face of which everything else was to be judged. Guatelinda near 30th and Lafayette and Oaxaca at 30th and Martin Luther King also brought some fine food to this city. These places are all gone and only Fandango is left of that group amazingly in a very humble strip mall and humble taqueria setting. It's a place to go for very good food - don't expect a white tablecloth restaurant but you will find tlayuda (try the chicken version), mole that is out of this world and homemade tortillas to die for. Nice salsas and wait staff. It can get really busy on weekends like on Sunday so don't go during that time without expecting a wait. There is beer but no margaritas. You can always stop for margaritas somewhere else afterwards if you have ganas for that. The tlayuda and mole enchiladas photos won't seem to upload here in the review unfortunately. The Fandango menu is mostly derived from Oaxacan recipes, but in more recent times they've included food from Honduras as well for other options. The caldos on the menu are known to be a great hangover cure if you like seafood.

Five stars for flavor. I love this place. My boyfriend and I get take out pretty frequently. The chicken empanadas are the best I've ever had. The chicken is moist and flavorful, they are packed full of meat and handmade to order. And their house salsas are HOT and so flavorful. I'm in love with the red sauce it's garlicky and super spicy. We have also tried the burritos! Once again soooo good! They have black beans instead of refried and a nice char on the outside... burrito perfection. I have also tried the torta (massive) and tacos. Everything I've tried is amazing. We really enjoy the al pastor (when available) and the carne asada is not bad. One other thing that I appreciate about this place... it's ALL CHICAS!!! I love it! The cooks, the host/server/cashier (she's busy doing three jobs so don't hate y'all) all amazing females making and serving the best Mexican food in town. It really tastes like you're getting a big spicy hug. Check it out for sure!

I wanted to love this place, thinking we had found a hidden 5-star diamond. The outside of the restaurant looks a little rough, and the inside looks a little lackluster, but all can be overcome by the food. Not so here, unfortunately. The tlayuda dish we ordered was a first-time try for us, and it was bland, heavy, and tough (tough meat, tough tortilla). I'm glad we gave it a chance, but I probably would only ever go back for the cheese empanadas, which were actually very delicious and well made.

I had a take out, usually I would get everything I ordered and wasn't worried about it. I got home and I had a missing empanad. and I also noticed that they make it smaller each time I take out. Disappointe.

First time... and I will never come back! Food... GOOD, but the actitud... horrible! Our server acting like she don't care was talking with a guy on the back never ask for a kid drink, refills or simply thinks like offering something else...I asked for a appetizer and she said no we don't have nothing just chips and salsa but obviously like if she is not in a good mood... i need go at the back of the restaurant and ask for more coffee... so I WILL NEVER COME BACK!
