Outstanding visit for the twilight deal of after 3pm golf with cart until close for $20. Well maintained course with clear fairways, challenging roughs and well manicured bunkers and greens. Only downside was a craving for peanuts, which they didn't have in the clubhouse. Ha. We'll definitely be back!

Great little course in downtown Indianapolis, roughly 5-7 min from the circle. It's pretty short, plays 2900 yards from the tips and every hole is straight. The par 3 can be lengthy which are challenging a, only 1 par 5 which is pretty narrow in the middle then opens up about 150 yards in and the rest are par 4's. Plenty of beautiful grown trees all over the course for you to navigate. The course isn't overly difficult, keep it in the fairway and there's plenty of scoring options, get off course and the trees come into play and the scoring starts to get dicey. Pricing is reasonable, $13 to walk 9, $18 to walk 18, after 3pm is twilight and $18 for all you can play 'til dark, $20 to ride 18. Since the course is short I walked 18 in 3 hours, 1.5 hrs per 9. Overall I really enjoyed my time here and will be back before I leave town.

Two stars only for the historical context of the course and area, and for the players that were very friendly and forgiving of a beginner that day. Most places are very arrogant but the players on this day were cool. The staff was awful. Not friendly and charged the full play/cart price for a spectator. Told me that was their practice. Another player waiting behind me said that was not right and I should have debated a little longer but being my first time and having another beginner - I didn't want to make the situation worse. The greens actually crisscross!! The second and third hole actually cross each other. Luckily a regular who played through told us. The other holes are parallel and very close. Not too bad for a beginner but be careful as we have multiple balls come close to hitting us. I won't be back. L

Located in the heart of Indianapolis's Northeast side on Andrew J Brown Blvd. formerly Martindale is a slice of American Golf History and certainly black golf history. Nestled neatly in an urban area surrounded by modest homes sits Douglass Park Golf Course (with two S's) aka "Doug". It's a 39.9 rating 102 slope 9 hole par 34 2613 yard course. On the July day I played I found the fairways and greens to be in spectacular shape. Slightly confusing for a first time player the history more than made up for it as I played with a friend who knows his way around very well. The non paying gallery seated on their front porches and informative signs particularly the shrine on #2 was such a treat. You really get the feeling you are someplace special. I imagine that many friendships were born and strengthened here.Opened in 1928 Douglass was the only Municipal owned golf course in the country named after an African American and catered to the black golf community . Douglass has held many championships and entertained many personalities such as Joe Louis, Charlie Sifford and "Tiger" Woods. Douglass opened with six holes and tomatoe cans for cups and later it grew into the nine holes it is today. People travel throughout the mid-west to play golf and enjoy this American icon.

This course is short -- it runs from 27th to 30th streets -- and the hole placement can be confusing, but it's a pretty fun course to play. Very pretty too -- lots of trees. I'm a terrible golfer, so I spend most of my time walking after my ball, but I enjoy being outdoors. The course is surrounded by houses on three sides and my fiance was once heckled by a guy sitting on his porch after missing a hole. It adds to the flavor of the area, I guess!A round of 9 with a cart is $15. It can get busy on the weekends but we generally let the faster players play through, as we're in no hurry. There are a fair number of players who walk the course -- it would be very manageable due to the size of the course.

Love this place for the experiences ive had. Its really where I learned how to play golf. But as simple as I can say, the front desk guys are assholes. And why in the heart of summer, when the sun stays out until 9:30 pm. We were forced out and told we had to leave at 7:50? I will still recommend for any new golfer but the way they run this place makes me scratch my head sometimes.

Went to play a twilight round here. Online they post they are open until 9pm but I had the workers come up to me on hole 5 at around 7pm saying I had to be out of the gates by 7:30. I told them that online it says they are open much later than that and that I wouldn't have came if I knew I couldn't even finish my round. One of the workers then started to threaten me if I wasn't out of there by 7:30. I have played this course over 30 times in the past and was astonished by this man's behavior.

When i first went to this course i thought it was a sketchy area to have a golf course but after i went in and talked with the staff i was impressed by how friendly and nice everyone was. The course is always kept in good condition and the greens were always in top condition. Me and my dad play here at least 2 times a month and have a great time. I would recommend this course to anyone that likes the game.

I am a Douglass golfer I have been playing Douglass for over 15 years. The course is great the par 3's are long. And all the holes are straight in front of you no dog legs but it has trees lots of them. So I give Douglass 5 stars and say to you come out and play a quick 9.
