This park is deceptively larger than it looks sitting at 2.7 acres. It does not have a designated parking lot, but there is a lot of free street parking available along the streets surrounding the park. The park was opened in 1928 and originally known as 61st and Broadway Park (after the streets it's located off of). It was renamed to Dan Wakefield Park in 2016, after a long time local resident and author/journalist, in part due to a campaign proposing the change was started. The park has a lot of green space. It would be good for activities such as picnic'ing, playing catch, flying a kite, or even a small football or soccer game. There are a few picnic tables placed on the green space to sit and/or eat. There is also a half decent tennis court and remnants of a volleyball court. The net is missing and the sand court is in very bad shape. You will find a relatively small picnic shelter at this park with picnic tables and a modest playground area. The playground area is lined with wood chips and has some older equipment which includes a jungle gym with slides, a bank of toddler swings and a bank of traditional swings. There are also a couple of sit and spins. The equipment could really use an upgrade. There is a lot of trees that provide decent shade at this park, which would be nice on a hot sunny day. There is a restroom facility at the park as well, but it was temporarily enclosed within a fenced area that they are doing some heavy construction on. I think it is where the splash pad is located. This is a good neighborhood park and has lots of potential, but time has seemed to catch up with it. The main draw for this place would probably be its splash pad. I hope it is back operational before the hot weather is here. Well, outside of the splash pad, it does not look like the city has invested much into the park in a while. This is not a park that you would travel to per se. But it may be worth while if you were in the area or lived in the surrounding neighborhood.

Here is another nice park for the folks in Broad Ripple. This one features tennis and volleyball courts, a splash park, a playground for kids, and a small swing playground for toddlers. There is a shelter with picnic tables but I didn't see a grill. There are restrooms and a water fountain available during park season. There is shade for adults who might not be participating in the splash park. Note: I thought the tennis courts looked like they were in really good condition compared to many I've visited.Review #595

This is a cute neighborhood park that's a little on the small side but has enough playground equipment to satisfy a kid who is preschool age and under. It has slides, a tunnel, eight swings and these poles that you sit on and spin around. The cherry on the top is the splash pad -- it's pretty big for a small park. It's motion-sensor activated, so you just wave your hand by the sensor and it'll turn on.

Cute little "pocket park" just off of 62nd and College. It's small but mighty, offering a playground, swingsets, tennis courts and a volleyball net somewhat displaced-looking patch of sand. The highlight of the park is the, um...I suppose there's probably a word for it, but it's an arch that sprays water in the summer for people to run through. Good stuff when it's miserably hot outside. I didn't take pictures of these, but there are also covered picnic tables if you're having a family reunion or something. Nice place to take the kids, especially if you live within walking distance of the Strip.

I feel like I should go into park management, since I now visit one at least 2 times a week... This is a great little mini park with a lovely splash pad. When your kid gets splashed in her eye and has a meltdown you can still have hope of exhausting her if you head over to the swings and playset. The playset is partially shaded & is about the perfect level for a 18month - 3 year old. The big slide is seriously whack for an 18 month old, but my kid is a little dare devil, so it's all good. I plan to try out the tennis courts and there is a covered picnic area for those who need respite from the sun/splash/standing environment that is motherhood in the summer. Go here. It's the bees knees.

It's good that the city did not ignore this small neighborhood park and actually made it even better. It is perfect for parents who would like to give there kids many things to do in a park, but not have to chase them everywhere around it to keep an eye on them.I remember this park when I was a kid. It has changed a little bit. The original tennis courts remain, but have been resurfaced. The original oversized birdbath type of bathing pool has been replaced by more modern water park sprayers. The bowl to the pool is gone and just replaced by flat concrete and it is no longer fenced in. Curiously enough, the original water fountain from the (60's maybe) is still where it was. I remember the swings when I was a kid, but they are newer (same place though) and there is new playground equipment. In the place of part of the original pool is a small pavilion with picnic tables that you can rent privately or by calling IndyParks.

If I had a child this would be a dream park on a hot day. They had a nice area, partial shade and sun on a quiet street. Swing set, sand volley ball, playground, and I think I saw tennis courts. The highlight to all the kids a couple of adults, a water park. Water shoots out of holes in the ground, arches, and tubes on a concrete area at different intervals. This thing had been running for hours, which created a run off into the street. If you tried to cross below the water park get ready for muddy feet or sandles. This would be a perfect spot to cool off after a bike ride or walk on a hot day with the family pet or your dog. ;)

Fantastic little pocket park. The playground equipment is a bit beaten up and faded, but the highlight is the free splash pad. Wonderful in the summer!
