Oh how I love my geek beer. When I saw this on Crown Liquors website, I knew it was meant to be:"Love those weird, hard to find beers that only you and your friends have heard of? Stalk and trade beers on ratebeer.com? Check out our stores and ask for what you don't see, we always have the hardest to find beers and can always special order anything that is available that we don't carry. "They had every beer I was hoping to find and more... Nearly every available variety of New Belgium. More varieties of Bell's than I ever knew existed, Boulevard, Abita, Breckenridge and tons more that I had never even heard of. Prices are pretty good especially considering their unique collection. Staff is very helpful. I called ahead of time to make sure I could get some Fat Tire and the New Belgium seasonal. He answered those questions, and provided tons of information on prices, inventory, etc. Once I got there, he was able to check in the back for other stuff. The only problem is that I'm not in Indy that often... but Crown Liquors is a great reason to go. Yay!The area is pretty non-sketchy, and right next door to a Border's Book Store. I wouldn't hang out in the parking lot though.

This is the liquor store by my house and that's the primary thing it has going for it. They've had ups and downs over the years with the friendliness of the staff. Most of the time, it has the vibe of a run-down liquor store and the greeting when you walk in the door is more of a "get a good look" than a genuine greeting. It sets the expectation that it's about to be robbed although, to my knowledge, I've never heard of any crime here. This is a good fill-in liquor store if you need something more mainstream but I always head to Big Red in Bloomington or Kahn's in Carmel if I have the time because this Crown does not carry the full selection in the relatively small space.

A smallish liquor store with a great size-to-quality ratio in terms of selection. Things I can't find at Big Red or Kroger are here, such as Angel's Envy bourbon and West Coast and Belgian craft beers, and commonly available items are usually at slightly better prices (e.g., $16 at Crown vs $17 elsewhere, $30 at Crown vs. $33 elsewhere). It can't beat Parti Pak for beer selection (esp. local), but for what it has the prices are better, and it's just off the highway. The 75% off shelf in the back can be hit or miss, with a lot of older and small-scale imports. Among the clearance brews I've tried, I've discovered a lovely Belgian beer that jumped to near the top of the best I've ever had, but I also wound up with a 750ml bottle of the most disgusting cider I've ever tasted, full of sediment and totally undrinkable even after filtering with a cheese cloth. It's worth a shot, but buyer beware.I had a very pleasant interaction with the chain's general manger, Will Moore, from whom I learned that price matching on alcohol is illegal in Indiana, so you should wait to buy if you think you can find a better deal. Will did, however, offer to let me return the product that I'd found a better price on elsewhere (which I wasn't able to take him up on, since the party I'd bought it for had already taken place). Nonetheless, I appreciated the management's responsiveness to my inquiry.Overall, a great store for its size, with a fun roulette-like clearance rack. I've had good experiences so far, and I'll be back in the future.

The beer selection is pretty good, but unfortunately for them they lose a star by being only two miles away from the best beer selection in Indianapolis: Parti-Pak. They also lose another star for being only three miles from a brand new and bigger Crown Liquors at Southport and Gray roads, with an equal selection of beer and a bigger selection wine and booze.. Unless I happen to be stumbling out of the White Castle across the parking lot, I probably won't be back here very often.

Well, previous reviewer Trevor pretty much said it all so I'll just put in my 2 cents worth. My husband and I really appreciate good craft beer and import beer. And, we really appreciate Crown for their excellent beer selection. Bob and Joe (man, I hope neither of these guys ever leave this store) truly know their beers and are extremely helpful whenever we pick their brains or ask for some beer recommendations. There is another liquor store on the south side that is known for their overwhelming beer selection but, DANG, I can never get any help there. None! Anyway, back to Crown, another real bonus when shopping for beer here is that they have tastings every Friday night that usually offer a pretty great variety of beers. Other than the amazing beer inventory, I can't really comment one way or another on their wine or liquor selection. We shop here for beer!
