Coffin Golf Club

I'm not much of a golfer but overall I had a great experience here, the staff was very welcoming and kind, and some of the holes were unique compared to some of the ones around me. There were elements of the course that could have used more upkeep but this wasn't really detrimental to my overall experience. I would come here again were I to find myself in Indy.

I grew up close to Coffin and remember as a kid how nice the course looked from a distance. Now I'm 50 and started playing golf and thought I give this course a chance. I was disappointed because a lot of the greens weren't taken care of. Also a couple holes are very narrow and look like they were just shoved into the course because of limited space (example hole 10). Hole 17 and 18 are narrow patches of fairway next to the river. Felt like they had to use whatever space they had to make some of the holes. The front 9 are better than the back 9. The back 9 has some good holes but overall the experience was just ok.

Recently moved back to Indy. Played this course twice in a week due to low price. Won't play again. Greens are extremely rough, fairways are hard packed dirt and tee boxes are weedy. I haven't seen a single person working on the course. No Covid cares - Staff doesn't wear masks and don't clean out the carts between golfers. When I asked a young kid bringing out a cart why there were cig butts in my cart, he said they wipe off the steering wheel. Trying other courses.

Greens are blotchy with mud. 5 different groups all on the first hole at the same time. No thanks

Tough but fair golf course. Not your typical course in downtown Indy. You have to hit golf shots. You can't just hit the driver every hole. It is challenging and you will probably lose a ball or two, but it is a great golf course. Not the easiest to walk, but very scenic. Hit up the before 10:00AM special during the week, $27 to ride. $20 to ride, all day on Mondays.

Been wanting to play this course for a while and last week a friend of mine and I finally got to play 18 holes. WOW what a fun time, even though we lost a few balls it was an adventure and so different than most other courses I've played near Indianapolis. Besides it being very affordable the staff was really nice and helpful. The greens were in good shape but fast and the course was a challenge for my first time playing. I shot just under 100 but am looking forward to playing it again soon.

My ball was better off in the rough than the fairway. Too bad I'm a good golfer and that rarely happened. Fairway was mostly dirt with some grass sprinkled in. Also the greens were nice, but near the fringe they looked like someone sprinkled concrete mix around and left it there to dry. and the fact that were was sand all over the greens was upsetting. Staff was friendly. Give them a raise. Fire the course maintenance crew though.

This place definitely does not deserve the 1-2 star ratings. At least not now. The tees definitely needed some TLC, but the fairways were fine. I've definitely played much much worse. They were average. But the greens!!! Best shape greens I've played all year. They were even nicer than some high end courses and country clubs. We were very impressed with them. Overall it was a pretty decent course. We weren't blown away, but not disappointed either. The course condition I would probably rate 3 out 5 but I gave it 4 stars because of John in the clubhouse. He was awesome! Very friendly and gave us some pointers before our round. Definitely need to hit them straight on this course! Overall, a very enjoyable day. Whoever is leaving 1-2 star ratings is a diva.

Use to play coffin several years ago. The course always had character. It has now went downhill. The fairway and rough were the same length. The greens had chunks missing and were bumpy every hole. The tee box had weeds that had to be picked before you teed off. I would not play this course if someone paid me. Stay away!

I've read that improvements are in the works... and that's a good thing. While it was the best of the 3 muni courses in the area, and therefore I'm glad it survived while South Grove and Riverside were chopped recently, the conditions are often so monstrous as to scare away all serious golfers. There are some very fun holes, though! I hope they get it cleaned up, in which case 3 or perhaps (with a couple small improvements to course design and facilities) even 4 stars would not be out of reach.
