Claus' German Sausage and Meats

Claus' is a prime spot for picking up delicious meat at great prices. The service is family-oriented and friendly, making for a welcoming atmosphere. The environment is clean and straightforward--just look in the glass case, point to what you want, and they'll wrap it up for you to take home and cook.They also have some items ready to eat, which is a nice touch. Overall, it's a fantastic place to grab quality meat with ease!

Based on the other reviews, I stopped in because I have always been curious about this butcher shop. I wanted to see what it offered. It seems it only offers meats and only a small amount of other German (grocery) type products behind the counter which are hard to see. I come directly from German heritage and my German mom told me recently she has been seeking a decent and knowledgeable butcher to make the right sized round roast thin filet cuts to make rouladen. When I went in, I was happy to be there and said hello but wasn't met with a very kind reception. I tried to ask some questions and the owner was very short and standoffish with me. I could barely hear him as he mumbled his responses. It appeared he was not in good spirits. I even tried to briefly small talk with him, to see if it would lighten up things, but he continued to be very apathetic / uninterested. I was the only one in the shop. It was surprising and disappointing. It was awkward and odd to be disregarded in that manner. It's not how a business and owner should treat his customers. Maybe he was having a bad day, or maybe that is just how he is. Either way, it was super rude, creepy and uncomfortable. I left because I wasn't going to be disrespected that way. I'll find another butcher. There's a few more near me I will check out instead. I can only assume they will be grateful for my business.

Claus is a staple in my life, and the smell is a core memory from coming here with my German grandparents. I can't recommend the bacon or the landjaeger jerky enough, but from start to finish, the service and quality is so good and worth a stop in to get your meats.

Great service as always. Their garlic bologna is simply the best. If you haven't tried Claud's, you should give them a try

Claus is awesome. He is a excellent butcher and he does fantastic things with smoked meats. I couldn't be happier to know him and to visit his establishment.

This place is legit. The owners or at least the guy working the counter is from Frankfurt. When you walk in the amazing smell of various sausages hits you full on. Then you HAVE to order all sorts of them. Everything is clearly hand made. I needed ground pork and they ground it on the spot for me. My new favorite store in Indy!

My husband ordered brisket and they were very informative on helping us order the meat for our bbq. They had a variety of options and the service was quick once we called the order in. There is a parking lot for easy access to the building. We will definitely be back to order more items!

Claus' German Sausage and Meats is everything you hope it will be. The shop has been a southside fixture for many years. They never disappoint. Their location on South Shelby is clean and hosts a wide selection of fresh and smoked meats and German food stuffs. The butcher counter fills most of the available space and shows off a selection of different cuts of fresh meat and a large assortment of smoked and cured meats. I am used to sparse meat cases at the grocery stores, I had forgotten all the wonderful items to choose from.Usually I go to Claus' during the summer. They are the best place to get pork chops or brats for the grill. This trip was just before the promised Snowmageddeon. I wanted to cook up a few things for the potential homebound period of which we were warned. I got a beautiful pork tenderloin that cooked perfectly in the crockpot and supplied us with several moist and savory meals. Brats from the meat case and sauerkraut from their grocery stock, gave us another fantastic meal. And one of my favorite Claus specialties is their homemade Garlic Bologna. I am in Hoosier Heaven when I take the thick slices and fry them up with butter and onions. What a wonderful lunch that is!The staff are helpful and kind. They will help you with preparation ideas and storage tips. It is an experience to go to Claus' and an experience you will not regret.

I called to bring some meat in to have it made into summer sausage and some loins smoked. I was told sure bring it in, so I did and then was told that we don't do bear meat anymore. I was really surprised due to the fact it's on there web site and I called ahead. The lady was really rude and just turned and walked into the back I was the only customer in the place. I have taken all kinds of meat including bear, moose, deer, etc and never been turned away and so rudely talked to. I did give them the benefit of their day may have been roug so later I took some mule deer deboned meat in to be made into summer sausage and ground meat. They were helpful that day when I dropped it off, but when I well back to pick it up the meat the same thing happened as the 1st incident. Every employee was very rude and acted like I was just a hassle to have to bring my order out of the back. This will be the last time and it's a shame because they make a very good product .
