I visited because I heard through the grapevine that Carniceria Morelos sells tamales by the dozen, and you don't have to pre-order. I was right! They have a little food area in the back of the store, near the pan dulce, where they have tamales ready and waiting in steamers. You need to go to the register first and let them know how many and which kind of tamales you want, and they'll get them for you.I bought a dozen-and-a-half of the pork with red chile tamales, and they are very good! In fact, I'm eating one right now as I type this review! The tamales have the perfect proportion of masa to meat, and they are cooked all the way through and not at all gummy, like some tamales can get when they're not cooked properly. They have other tamales besides pork, but I was only interested in pork when I visited, so I can't tell you for sure what other kinds they have. This is also a grocery store, so there are lots of packaged Mexican foods here, as well as a small panderia with some bolillos and a selection of pan dulce. This looks to be a great place to find Mexican candy (Lucas, Tajin, tamarindo candy, those little disks of chalky peanut butter with the picture of the abuelita on them, etc.), as I saw a lot of different candies.

After celebrating many Christmases in Texas, we were on the hunt for reasonably priced and delicious tamales for Christmas. My husband visited today and brought some home. These were some of the best tamales I have ever had anywhere. We tried the cheese variety and the Oaxaca variety wrapped in banana leaf. Both were pleasantly spicy and flavorful. We will be back soon to try the kinds they had already run out of.

Great selection of Mexican foods, especially the prepared foods like chicharron, barbacoa, pastry, etc.The prices are right and the workers are helpful. The selection is also surprisingly large for a store at 96th and Allisonville, bordering Fishers and Carmel. If you see something you don't recognize, the staff is more than willing to help - just ask.

So the pastries/baked goods here are a bit on the dry side. I've figured out what makes them so much better. Go home, make some good coffee, and dip it in there. Tada! All tasty now!Do all the Hispanic markets have a central bakery they get their goods from? It just seems like many of these stores are so small and either have an expansive lunch counter or deli/butcher section that I find it hard to believe they can also fit a commercial oven in there.Anyway, I digress. This is an ideal spot to run in, grab the couple of things you'll need, and exit. Use your high school Spanish and you'll mostly be fine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTw4PTApfpA Have been griping about how nasty, and brownish and light the garlic has been, but everyone talked me out of it, saying I'm too picky. Now I find this video showing US ALL HOW even Carniceria Morelos must be trying to save money by buying cheap, toxic, poisonous garlic and selling them for about 3 for $1! Disgusting. Shame on you, been looking at these purchases for weeks, but knowing something is wrong with them. KROGERS HAS BETTER SELECTION. MARSH HAS BETTER SELECTION FRESH THYME-- HEALTH IS WHY YOU PAY MORE. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, Don't letter anyone talk you out of a bad feeling about inferior foods

Growing up in Italian home with authentic Italian home cooked meals it appalling that this location sells this. You an smell real garlic and it has a hefty weight to it in your hands, it's density. This garlic's cloves are misshapen and an odd color of death on something that should be bright and pungentIn I agree this is poison GMO toxin filled not to be classified as food. http://www.snopes.com/garlic-from-china/

One word: Tamaleria. The little lady behind the display case said, whimsically, "We have the green chile with cheese and the red sauce with pork." I said, "I'll have one of each."What that little lady behind the display case SHOULD have said was, "I have two tickets to heaven on earth right here." If you know me, you know that I am a *sucker* for tamales. They're one of my favorite Mexican dishes. And it's a good thing I live in a city with pockets of Hispanic immigrants because there are tamales abound here! When I got my tamales home I spiced them up with a little habañero salsa but took a bite without the salsa, just to try it, and PING. The tamale tastiness meter in the back of my cretin brain pegged its limiter. While there are tamales all over town, you'll have to trust me when I say that these are some of the best you can get. There's a lot of other stuff going on here at this grocery and when I make tortas or other stuff at home, I can come here to shop for fresh bolillos, dried chiles, and anything else that I may need or want to pick up to make decent mexican food on my own. That is, if I ever cook again. I may go on a strict tamale-and-arepa only diet until I die.

This place is great. I have not tried any of the food but I hear it's really good. I went to purchase some ingredients to make pastor tacos and not only did they have everything, the staff was very nice and helpful which goes a long way with me. Also everything is priced very well.
