The area has a very quaint small town village shopping feel. There are several shops within walking distance of each other. My friend and I spotted this shop as we were leaving but decided to stop by. If you love books you'll love this house turned book store. There is room after room of used/collectable books, covering various topics. The shop owner is friendly and there's a shop dog! My friend and I both got a few things, highly recommended.

This was a very nice store, the staff was furry and had four legs! I liked the theming as it was based off the dog of the owner. The owner was there and was helpful in the way of conversation and book findings. The kids book section was also historic and beautiful. The little nook of a shop was a great find.

One of the nicest book stores we've visited. They have such a huge selection of rare and vintage books. If you're ever in town, don't forget to check it out and if you're lucky, you'll meet the beautiful Sophie the black lab.

There's some places that you can only describe as special. This old, transformed, adorable house now serves as a sweet bookshop containing a good variety and plenty of antique books as well. You best believe that I stocked up on my own stash of vintage Nancy Drews. Oh, the memories. Oh, they have an adorable dog. And a super nice lady works there. And it's in an adorable part of Zionsville. Go grab yourself a book & a look!

Avid readers, intellectuals and historians welcome here! The little house converted to used bookstore is located in the heart of downtown. There is often a big dog water bowl outside for dog walkers passing by. Inside you are often greeted by the owner large black and friendly dog. The shop is filled with gently used books. They carry a selection of children's books, classics,Indiana authors, and other adult books. They also carry local Zionsville note cards and post cards by a local photographer. In fact, I think this may be the only place to buy Zionsville postcards. The shop is decorated with interesting vintage items such as old Corona typewriters and furniture. In the summer, guests congregate around the store engaged in heady conversation. Patrons are encouraged to sit, read and talk. There is frequently a hot pot of complimentary coffee in the store. The staff is friendly and eager to assist. Parking is a bear on this busy corner.

I enjoy checking out small, independent bookstores to see what they have that allows them to compete with the big stores and online sellers. This shop is not a place to go for the latest trending books. Instead, it's where you search for that book you read as a child or the classic that may be an early edition. Whatever it is, somehow they manage to keep going. Not only do they have sections that you will find elsewhere (fantasy, fiction, children's, etc) but they also have groupings/collections that make it easy to pick up multiple titles in the same vein. I noticed a section devoted to Dickens, one for the Wizard of Oz, and another for the Winnie the Pooh books. There are also groupings of local authors too.I didn't see any big black dog on my visit, not sure if that's still possible, but the dog bowl of water is still out front and there were some play toys on the floor in the main room, so maybe I just missed the dog on my visit. Anyway, the store is one where you can browse and if you are lucky, find something that you won't find at those big places that are interested in the latest hot item.Review #2216

If you are a fellow book work like myself, you'll love this book store! It's in downtown Zionsville. It's books galore! They have sections with certain authors grouped together. They had tables with themes of books pulled out. One section was dedicated to local authors in town! I thought that was really cool. They have quality used and rare books. They do book repairs! Like I mentioned before, they buy local authors books, and they also buy libraries old books, and collections. They have literature, mystery, children's books, history, and so much more! They promote that they like to sell the hard to find books for their customers. They have a nice annual sale too.The hours are Tue-Sat 11am to 6pm. They list Sundays and Monday's by chance. So I wouldn't try it unless you know they'll be around. When I stopped in the owner had her adorable, sweet dog roaming around. He was so cute! So stop in, buy some books, and give the cute lab a pat on the head!

Visited Black Dog when exploring the great town of Zionsville. It looks like a book shop out of a movie. The best part about the place is the black lab that greets you when you walk in. I love the fact that these are used books and have the opportunity to find a new home. I love the children's section mostly because I am a teacher and always looking for new books my students will enjoy. The owner was also interested in my feedback on which authors to look for to add to the collection. I gave her my favorites and hopefully they will be added soon! Places like Black Dog are what make Zionsville unique. It gives it a small town charm and adds a great service to the community. It is a very open and friendly place while inviting with its bright red doors! I will be back and searching for the next treasure that comes to this great place and visit their cute fury friend.

Black Dog Books is, without question, my favorite bookstore ever. The warmth of the space and the resident book-loving dog make it feel more like visiting an old friend than just shopping for books. And at the heart of it all is Tania, the true "book whisperer." She has an uncanny ability to recommend exactly what you didn't know you needed, whether it's a beautifully bound classic, a rare first edition, or a hidden gem from an obscure author. Her carefully curated collection is nothing short of extraordinary--every visit brings something new and unexpected.

Lolly, was so welcoming and kind! She even stayed late so we can look at the huge collection of beautiful antique books. There seems to be a limitless number of books we wanted to buy. I cannot recommend this store enough!
