Bicentennial Unity Plaza

Unity Plaza is a lovely spot outside the Fieldhouse to grab a seat, enjoy some art and watch Indiana's favorite sport, basketball. An arched sculpture by Herman Mejia first drew our attention. The shiny twisted stainless steel is called "Together" representing the unity theme of the Plaza. A second sphere shaped sculpture is interactive with lit images that change depending on Fieldhouse events. The dome resembles a basketball, of course. We watched kids doing gymnastic tumbles under the dome during our visit. The covered basketball court is opened to all and there were a few kids shooting hoops when we arrived late afternoon. (I'm told the court converts to an ice skating rink in the winter.) A magnificent mural by Chicago artist, Anna Murphy, features the faces of many of Indiana's iconic legends. A key below the mural tells the names of all the faces, but it was fun to try and identify as many people as we could without looking. There are tables and other seating around the pristine plaza. The plaza opened in 2023 and was partially funded by a grant frthe Lilly Foundation. I recommend a visit to the Plaza especially if you want to shoot a few hoops. It's a great spot to visit before an event and enjoy the beauty of the city. We found metered parking within a block of the Plaza.

Indy did an amazing thing when they created this space. The plaza offers space for people to play basketball during the summer and to ice skate during the winter. There is an outdoor bar and food space with limited options. There is also seating on the outskirts of the court. This is perfect for date night, to bring the family or just to relax and watch others play. If you visit Commission Row, sit outside on the balcony and you can watch from above! Best of all, music is played, so the vibes are just right! Don't just check my word', check it out for yourself!

Post-Sweets & Snacks Expo happy hour hangout. The venue was spacious enough for attendees, with the added bonus of a basketball court and a DJ whose music echoed throughout the plaza.

We love stopping by the Bicentennial Unity Plaza! It's shaded and there have always been enough basketballs for everyone to play with. They have had a water jug with cups available too which I find really nice. So far everyone has done a great job on keeping it clean and a desirable place to hang out in downtown!

Such a neat place with shifting themes depending on the season. We were here for ice skating and had a blast! But will check it out in the spring too

It has shade and lots of space for a crowd to watch people hoop , nice court and very nice goals. Best outside courts in the whole city. This video was right before a pacer game , I can't recommend checking it out more
