I was on my first day of a planned 3-day wheeling of the Cardinal Greenway. While I don't ordinarily have lunch while wheeling, I was running low on energy and was hoping a meal would pick up my energy. As I was nearing Gas City, my roadie and I began looking for something local and we passed this place, practically the definition of a hole-in-the-wall yet appearing to be somewhat inviting and tempting. So, we stopped after my volunteer stopped to make sure it was wheelchair friendly. This is your definitive smalltown diner. I'm not sure if they had accessible parking or not. I didn't sense they did, but there wasn't much of a crowd and it was no issue. As we were entering, a group of older ladies gave us a look that either screamed "Oh God, more city people" or "What are you doing in our town?"I still haven't decided which. As it turned out, it may have been the look of "They're about to close you idiots." We entered through an older doorway that was a bit tricky but workable. The restaurant is rather small with a few tables and booths (mostly booths). Wheelchairs are pretty much limited to a couple options. The only employee invited us to sit anywhere and it wasn't until she came back to take our order that we finally caught on that they were, in fact, actually closing as she locked the door (Or she was related to Leatherface and we were destined to be on the menu). I felt rather guilty, but she never gave any indication of being disturbed by our arrival. They seem to emphasize breakfast foods with a full breakfast menu, but also had several sandwiches and salads. I opted for a simple plain burger and fries, yeah the fries were a bad option for someone wheeling, while my roadie had a chef's salad. I always hope I'm going to find a little gem. I really was hoping for a terrific burger and something special overall. Unfortunately, the burger was pretty ordinary and the shoestring variety fries were incredibly straightforward and bland. It wasn't a bad meal, but it definitely wasn't what I was hoping for when we stopped. I did enjoy my iced tea and did get a refill. The facility itself was fairly clean and casual. It was exactly what you expect from a smalltown diner. The server/hostess/cook/etc. was friendly by voice but had a hilariously non-expressive face. I kind of got the sense she cussed us out under her breath for our arriving late, but I'm actually giving an extra star because she treated us well. Would I go back? Probably not. The food isn't anything special and there was nothing about the experience that made me want to return. While Gas City isn't filled with dining options, there are other options including a bar and grill in the same parking lot. Plus, I'm still kind of irritated that the Cardinal Greenway doesn't go through Gas City. When you think of smalltown dining, you kind of hope for something "down home" with fullness of flavor and comfort. While the breakfast foods may prove to be a better option, this was a decent menu, decent setting, decent service and fairly forgettable experience made slightly better by being welcomed even in their closing minutes and by getting my always desired iced tea refill. As a side note, it's worth noting that they do NOT take credit cards. They do, however, take checks along with the obvious cash.

The food is great. Well priced. But the bathroom is unisex and it's outside. My 4yr old needed to go and right away but there bathroom had no toilet paper no paper towels. And although I asked politely for it to be remedy quickly due to the emergency nature my child was in two other customers were helped. Disappointing

My boyfriend and I have come here since we started dating (2 years ago) and haven't stopped. We bring our 6 month old with us and it's nice that they have little BABY chairs instead of the normal restaurant high chairs that aren't safe enough for an infant. They are kind of grimy and dirty but my baby's butt is just sitting in it and he's a baby he gets dirty. So no big deal. But I love the menu and all the options. From dinner meals, to light lunches and GREAT breakfast choices. I usually get "The Big One" just because I'm a "sampler junkie" good price for decent quality food and great service. They always check on us multiple times and make sure our drinks are filled. Kind of upset they aren't open all day!

This is a locally owned and operated restaurant that caters to a breakfast and lunch crowd. Their breakfast is a good, solid menu. Lunch menu always features a soup of the day and their chili. They have one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches of any local diner in East Central Indiana.

My favorite place In town for breakfast. The only downfall is the cigarette smoke.
