I'm a local, and I desperately wanted to like this place. I remember going to Calabria in Kirkland as a kid (apparently owned by the same family), and I badly wanted that same kind of experience in North Bend. A neighborhood Italian restaurant is an amenity I cherish in a town. What is better than a Friday night veal piccata and a couple of glasses of Chianti? Sadly, after my recent visit I am convinced that North Bend remains an Italian food desert. Our party of four gave it a serious try. We collectively ordered two bottles of wine, two appetizers and four entrees. The wine list is small, but reasonably priced and offers decent variety. We had a serviceable Brunello and a nice Chianti. Perfectly civilized. The unraveling of my neighborhood Italian dream began with the arrival of the appetizers. A bruschetta is a simple thing, defined by the quality of its components: Quality bread toasted with olive oil and rubbed with garlic while hot; fresh, ripe tomatoes; a ribbon or two of basil, a drizzle of oil, a pinch of salt. The plate we were presented with may have contained these basic elements, but none met the standard: The bread was under toasted and unseasoned, the tomatoes were watery and flavorless (almost certainly mediocre tomatoes that had been refrigerated for a week), and the whole dish lacked any discernible seasoning whatsoever. In similar vein, a Caprese salad is simple on the surface, but should shine on the quality of its ingredients. Unfortunately, here again we were confronted with pinkish, artificially ripened mass market tomatoes, a low-grade cow's milk mozzarella, and bruised basil. No seasoning. Sadly, the real insults to our palates arrived with the entrees. I'm unsure what to say about the Veal Saltimboca. I've never had stranger, less appetizing plate of food presented to me in a restaurant. When you read the name of that dish you are probably imagining seared cutlets of veal in a rich but delicately balanced pan sauce, spiked with prosciutto and sage. What I received was a plate of gray, silver dollar-sized "veal" off cuts atop a mess of chewy thick pork. I ate two bites and stopped, certain that the veal was spoiled. Another member of our party tried a bite and actively recoiled. Although I didn't get sick, the meat was deeply, disturbingly gamey, not a quality often found in baby cows in my experience. And the sides were not much better: Accompanying the primary travesty was a 4"x4" square of congealed mozzarella and spinach, and (bizarrely) a messy mound of what I believe was stewed red cabbage. The other entrees, although less actively hazardous to human health, were also poor. A depthless, school cafeteria-like bolognese, gummy gnocchi in a blah sauce, you get the picture. Put it this way, not one of us ate more than half a plate, and we didn't take any leftovers home. We sent appetizer plates away half eaten. We declined the offer of a post-meal tiramisu. When was the last time you ate passable Italian and any of those things happened?

Little gem of a place. We visited Snoqualmie for Father's Day to take a steam engine train ride and were famished by the end of the journey, the local Italian restaurant had great reviews but no space to seat our group. We luckily found Ll Paesanos less than 3 miles away in north bend that ended up exceeding out expectations in every possible way.The staff are kind, the food is delicious, the portions are refreshingly satisfying and the ambience is welcoming. We tried a little bit of everything - Salmon peste, spaghetti carbonara, a margherita pizza, a crab bisque and chicken Marsala, all plates were clean by the time the check arrived. Will definitely return if we are to come back to the region again.

The only thing I regret was not taking enough photos of this hole in the wall Italian place. A friend took me to this place, it's a cute hidden gem of the area that I wouldn't have thought of going out of my way to. I like the simple rustic ambience in this small mountain town. I had the pappardelle for my main course. The serving size is huge, enough for leftovers. However, as a mushroom enjoyer, i can't decide if I like the papparadelle or the portobello original more. The latter had the best Gorgonzola white sauce I've ever had. It was also great for dipping the bread in. I paired this meal with a rose wine to take it all in. Service was pretty nice. Very friendly, they treat you like family. Highly recommend checking out this place if you're looking for a real hidden gem!

Are there a year ago and the food was plenty and good. Italian home style. Not too crowded, romantic. Came back in summer and food was " different" has the ball piccata- not what I expected, tasted a bit like a gravy pack with capers. So, one good... one meh... not sure I need to go again.
