Classy yet casual is a good way to describe this Indian place on Devon Avenue. Hyderabad House is indeed fine dining compared to a lot of the places around here. It's pretty high quality food, which results in a bit higher of prices. Even so, it's not incredibly expensive. The portions are pretty big, especially for rice, so it's a good choice for a big gathering. After looking for Indian restaurants on Devon Avenue we hadn't been to yet, we chose here and not because it looked cool. It looks better on the inside than on the outside. The menu is full of classic choices, and plenty for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Good price on the Khatti Daal. It's about $9 for a large bowl of a soup. Goes good with rice. The portions of rice are massive. For real, don't order too much of it. One plate is enough for the whole table. As for the daal, it was good. There was a light spice about it, and it was filling for a lunch. Good place that gets overlooked because there's so many other Indian restaurants around here. It's a pretty nice value getting the big portions. There's a lot of choices for vegetarians.

The chili chicken was not good- it was actually sweet in a bad way. However the garlic naan and biryani were much better. The service is where it all fell through, the fact that the family dining restaurant was empty should have been our biggest red flag, but we thought we'd give it a try anyways bc the other side has a reputation for not being women friendly. The food took forever and it was just uncomfortable waiting that long, especially since the whole 45 mins we were alone and waiters would walk by with no acknowledgment. We literally almost left. I believe the main location is changing now, because we went to the other side the week after and they were much nicer and more respectful than the formal restaurant. Overall I'd recommend going to the original location or takeout for biryani but it's nothing mind-blowing or worth going out of your way for imo. They used to be known for authentic Hyderbadi food but they have fallen off a little bit.

Southern Indian restaurant on the famous Devon Avenue. This is the one on the north side of the street as there is also a Hyderabad House on the south side. This one has the "classier" interior with the yellow walls. Went on a weeknight for dinner with a couple of coworkers, and the place was not very busy. There was one waiter who was a little slow with the service, but no other major complaints with the service. We ordered haleem, two plates of chicken biryani and chicken 65. All of which were pretty tasty to me. Prices were very reasonable, and the biryani portions were quite big. We also ordered the Double Ka Meetha which was a sweet bread pudding. Had a nice aroma to it without being too sweet. Overall I enjoyed the food.

Suitable for families especially if you want to bring family from out of town. Does it feel authentic though? No. It's very hard to park around this area and if you traveled far to get here to get some authentic Indian feels you'll probably be disappointed. They do serve authentic biryani, which you can get from almost anywhere in Devon street. Is it the best biryani in Devon st? Also, no. Service is not very enthusiastic so I don't consider it a very happy place to eat. Food choices are also very limited which tells me there's nothing so special about this place. The serving is humongous though. I wouldn't be able to finish one serving of biryani here no matter how hungry I am. Since it doesn't showcase authenticity, it may be a good place to take family and friends if they're just trying to get to know Indian cuisine.

Food tasted awful...Customer service was very bad! Miss behaving staff... The waiter was literally forcing us to have naan..surprisingly, it was not only us, i saw the waiter to force other customers as well..waited 10-15 mins for the bill.. and no one came up, at last had to get up and pay the bill ourselves.. so high service charge for this service!

I will give the 5 stars just for the haleem they make which is total Hyderabadi taste. Their chef worked at pista house in Charminar. It's simple amazing. Even the lamb biryani is very close to Hyderabad style mutton dum biryani. I am happy to have visited this place. The Qurbani dessert was perfect too. Felt like eating at home in Hyderabad. Service was good and only person was working but he was good to talk with. His name is Inayat and we spoke about Hyderabad. It felt great hearing Hyderabadi Hindi !! The veg food was also good, a little on the spicy side for my vegetarian family members. I won't miss this place the next time I come to Chicago !!

Dahi Poori here is the best in Devon Street. It is Indian style Dahi Poori. Most of the other restaurants on Devon street serve Pakistani style which doesn't go well with my taste. My husband loved the chicken biryani here. It's authentic Hyderabad style dhum biryani. Ambience is perfect for an Indian family dining.

This place is may be a bit expensive, but the food here is TOTALLY worth it. There is many foods to pick from here, the one I recommend is Chicken 65, it's spice is sensational and there was really no sign of frozen food at all.
