Great bar setting. Loved the Pink Bikini Martini--vodka with pineapple and watermelon liquor were the perfect tropical blend for someone who doesn't care for rum. The crispy fish bites and sweet plantains were enough to share. And, the coconut cream pie alone is worth going back for. Unfortunately, we missed happy hour - it ENDS at 3:30 on the weekends. Next time we'll be sure to go during happy hour as the discounts were notable.

My husband recommended this place for dinner. It was my first time and his 3rd. We had the best waitress. Love her enthusiasm. The place was packed, but not super loud. Which was nice because my husband and I were able to hold out conversation. We started off with two drinks and they were so good. He ordered the zombie and I ordered the tiki bastard. I do not like sweet drinks, and the tiki bastard was perfect. We ordered two apps and one entree. The crispy coconut shrimp rolls and the fish bites were good. The portions were a good size. For the entree we had the Kalbi ribs. The ribs were flavorful, but a little overcooked.

Stopped by Hula's Modern Tiki with a couple of friends after a day of shopping around Scottsdale. Overall rating is 4 stars, good service but hit-or-miss food. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He explained the menu for us since it was our first time, and checked in frequently throughout the meal. The food very good in some areas, and just okay in others. We started with a basked of the house-cut fries. These were extremely good fries. You can tell they are made fresh in house. For mains we got the Blackened Wasabi Mahi, Lemongrass Encrusted Ahi, and Hawaiian Kalbi Ribs. All 3 entrees followed the same theme: excellent protein but disappointing sides. The fish was flavorful and moist. The ribs were tasty and cooked with the right amount of char for flavor. However the sides collectively were very lackluster. My dish was supposed to come with Wasabi mashed potatoes. Not sure where the wasabi comes into play because they were extremely bland. They actually had the same consistency and flavor profile of boxed "cafeteria" mashed potatoes. The mac salad was better, but still lacking in flavor. The broccolini had flavor but was too al dente and unenjoyable to eat. I would consider going back for drinks and appetizers (and of course the fries), but would probably skip on the entrees next time.

Although I did not have a smooth first experience with Hula's service, the owner and host promptly reached out to apologize, and we reached a satisfactory resolution. I admire Hula's commitment to resolving customer issues in a timely and respectful manner. To reiterate on just the food and ambiance aspect of Hula's, I really appreciated the variety of vegetarian options available on the menu. It's rare to find restaurants with more than 1-2 decent options for vegetarians. I also thought the menu had very unique dishes and had a hard time picking just 1 thing to order. Our table had no complaints about flavors, and we loved the cute cups the drinks came in, as well as the decor. The Captain's Colada stood out to me the most; It's perfect for an Arizona summer's day. I look forward to returning and trying a new dish I couldn't order this time.

We had a few drinks and one appetizer. The service was great at the bar. Friendly and attentive bartenders. It was 4pm when we arrived and continued to pick up and get busy as we were there. The only reason I give 4 stars is that I'm super picky about tiki. Otherwise it could be 5, nothing went wrong. I just don't love how so many of the tiki cocktails are made with Bacardi rum. Thats like the Budweiser of rum. All in all I recommend this place and would come back. But if you're really into tiki cocktails try some specific places that cater to getting you wasted after one drink ;)

I wish I could review the food here, because it genuinely looked amazing. As for the drinks, tiki drinks are definitely on the sweeter side, which isn't usually my vibe, so I want to be fair with my review. The bartender was amazing and perfect, and if you like sweet drinks this is absolutely the place to try when you're in old town Scottsdale.

Who doesn't want to be on a beach in Hawaii drinking a Mai Tai? When you live in the desert, these tiki themed restaurants and bars are the closest that we can get to that experience. Hula's Modern Tiki puts their own spin on classic tiki bars of the 1960's. It is a great place for drinks during happy hour or to dine at for lunch or dinner. In addition to cocktails, Hula's has a food menu that is a fusion of island and American cuisine.I have had the opportunity to visit all of the Hula's locations here in the Valley throughout the years. This location is in the heart of downtown Scottsdale right off Scottsdale Rd. Their drink menu has a number of popular cocktails that just make you feel like chilling at the beach. The Mai Tai, Hawaii 5-O, Blue Hawaiian and Hurricane are just a few of my favorites. I have yet to gather enough people to partake in a Scorpion bowl. The food menu at Hula's is quite large with gluten-free options and discounted prices at happy hour. The atmosphere is fun and lively at Hula's Modern Tiki. The people here in Scottsdale always know how to have a good time. It can get packed at times. But the vibrant tiki décor and the sounds of Hawaiian music in the background creates an ambiance here that is chill and laid-back despite the crowds.

I LOVE Hulas! The staff is always so friendly and in a great mood. I love that sometimes they wear Hawaiian shirts and the whole atmosphere feels like you're on vacation! The drinks are totally on theme and literally all of them are good. My favorite is the margarita and the painkiller! We really love all of their food but the favorites are the beef sticks, potstickers, and luau pork sliders! Which bonus- all are on happy hour! They have happy hour multiple nights per week but Wednesdays is all night!!They don't take reservations under 8 so get there early to put your name in and then wander Old Town!

The cutest little Hawaiian restaurant out in old town!! I hear their brunch is really good but I opted for the jerk chicken instead! I found the sauce to be a bit much but the rice and mahi salsa was delicious. It comes with plantains and Jamaican johnny cakes! So good!! I ordered their mocktail and it was yummy!! Their shrimp rolls were crispy and perfect! Best place for a nice lunch!

I ate here on a Wednesday during happy hour. This place is popular but I didn't have to wait! The server was very kind and consistently checked in on me. The restaurant is very clean and has many different seating options. I ordered their signature cocktail Hula Mai Tai. It's a Mai tai for folks who appreciate drinks that aren't 90% juice because I felt the light buzz almost immediately. I ordered crispy fish bites which is a white bass and sweet potato fries. The fish bites were very light and delicious! I also ordered the beef skewers which were cooked medium. The meat was tender and juicy! Their happy hour menu has a lot of great options and on Wednesday the happy hour menu is all day.
