Big Thicket Distillery is a small family owned distillery in Conroe. They take great pride in their product and are still hand labeling each bottle. Gretchen did a fabulous job of explaining the process from start to finish.They are currently making Vodka from corn, but will soon have other spirits available. The cleverly named Dog Trot Vodka is not for the faint at heart. It is 100 proof and has a slight floral taste on the finish. I prefer my vodka to be a bit smoother.They have a tasting room and will mix up some cocktails for you with their products. You can also have private parties there with your own outside catering. This was one of three stops for me as I make my way through some of the areas newest distilleries. Welcome Big Thicket, and good luck as your business expands!

Big Thicket has closed for tours but forgot to delete the date(s) on their website or via Groupon. Was contacted by the owner and he said they were moving locations and should be back open for tours in the spring. He also will allow the tickets purchased to be used and threw in a t-shirt. Rating moves to A-OK until they reopen, then I'll post another update.

If you are looking for a "different" kind of place to have your next party, this place is it. They can host up to 24 guests comfortably,(more in cooler weather) and the cost includes a tour of the distillery, tastings of their spirits, and a cash bar. They can also work with a local restaurant to bring in food, or you can bring your own in. I recently had my 60th birthday party there, and my guests are STILL talking about how "unique" and "fun" it was. Good times, good friends, good spirits. You can't ask for a better party atmosphere !! Gretchen and Daniel, you guys made my special day memorable - and I know others would feel the same !!
