House Of Szechwan

Good Chinese, Thai and even Filipino Food! Filipino egg rolls aka lumpia is so tasty! Crab Rangoons are yummy too. Food is fresh and flavorful!

Not sure what the hell happened with this place, but never again.  Been ordering here over 14 yrs so obviously loved it. No more.I asked for extra sweet sauce for my pad see eiw- didn't get that and what I did get didn't even taste like pad see eiw- just bland beef w peapods and mushrooms- not only no extra sauce, NO Sauce!   This is the second time my pad see eiw didn't taste like pad see eiw.This time I had to repeat my order 3x.  Then- when I got my order an entire half of it was missing.  When I called and explained- the woman spoke over me loudly, saying driver was on the way (I clearly said I received my order and half was missing) again, I repeated myself 3x before she screamed at someone onsite and said driver would be back.  By that time, the missing half of the lunch meal was cold. Last 3x I have ordered- (shrimp egg foo young, pot stickers, orange chix and a few other things) doesn't taste as it used to.  I am done and searching for a suitable replacement.

Update to my review. I found the original owners of the House of Szechwan! They came out of retirement and opened a few months ago, and their new place is called, Chinese Munch Inn, located in Wheeling, IL., on Wolf Rd.I just picked up dinner tonight, and it was absolutely utterly fabulous! Just as good as it's always been. The place was loaded with cars for Friday night after work pickups, and people were shattering how happy they were to see the new owners back in business, and how deeply missed they were, along with expressing their disappointment with the new House of Szechwan. The negative comments were right on target. Welcome Back, and hallelujah! High quality Chinese food is back in town.

The food is excellent. Their house egg rolls are a delight you must try. Their dishes have a good variety

Dearly Beloved We gather here today to Morn the Loss of the Great " House of Szechwan" of Des Plaines. This place was the Bomb when Dan and Mary owned it. I did not know they sold it , I went in expecting the same Wonderful Delicious Dishes. I looked at the Menu and it had Thai food on it. I asked where Dan and Mary are, she said they sold to new owners. I ordered Thai Cashew Chicken . I have been around the world and never had Thai food so bad Anywhere . I got it home and was so disappointed, I Paid 17.00 for Hog Slop that tasted like a Combination of all the leftovers from the fridge from Last Week !!! It was worse than Horrendous ,,, It was TOXIC . This is the Obituary for the Original House of Szechwan !! No one was in there because it's officially Dead !!!

Moved in the area last year, have ordered from there 3 times over the last months. We are very happy with them, very polite and have received the correct items we have ordered. They have the freshest egg rolls I have ever had. We have had sesame chicken, chicken chop suey and sweet and sour chicken all have been very good. Have not ate there but looks very clean and taken care of.

Large servings! Delicious crab Rangoon and pot stickers. Love the double noodles with beef. Very tender!

Yikes! I had no idea the ownership had changed. But that explains it! I have only eaten here for take-out. If I'd only have checked Yelp first.The three stars is because the place is clean and the Pad Thai with chicken was good.It used to be 5 stars under the prior owners because ALL the food then was so good.Now - General Tsao Chicken seems to have sweet & sour sauce made with ketchup on it; soggy broccoli; & is missing some noodles. The pepper steak is swimming in a different sweet sauce made with ketchup. Another reviewer is recommending a place on Wolf Road in Wheeling.If I come back here, it will only be for the Pad Thai.

New owners watch out! I ordered the vegetable delight and received a plate of sautéed snow peas. Where are the other vegetables I asked they said they don't have them for a long time! I told them nicely they should had told me because I would have ordered something else. Then screaming and yelling. I asked for sweet and sour soup and received chicken egg drop. It's on the menu I pointed out. Then told no more. Last time. $12 for a small plate of snow peas!But it's the screaming at me I do not care for. The menu listed one thing and they give you something else and it's my fault.

Went there for dinner on April 12th. The food was below average. The worst was the service. Received our dinner and appetizer at the same time. My wife received her food well before me. We had to track someone down to get another drink. Our waitress kept disappearing. We had to yell to get to go boxes and our bill. Won't be going back anytime soon.
