The Sloppy Joe was amazing! I hadn't had a Sloppy Joe since the elementary school cafeteria. I have been thinking of them in recent years and wondering what my first one as an adult would be like. First, Hot Tomatoes' is huge! I had been thinking $15 (after tax and tip) was a bit steep for a sandwich, but this was 2 full sandwiches. The bread is artisanal, delightfully thick and chewy, and way surpassed my expectations; a major step up from a hamburger bun. The filling tastes just like my nostalgic memories, but upon further inspection is much more gourmet, with the addition of beautifully melted cheese, caramelized onions and occasional bits of shredded carrots and tomatoes. It was definitely "sloppy" but so delicious I didn't mind picking up all the pieces that fell out and stuffing them back in. Tip: if you take some home make sure to wrap the part with the meaty inside exposed in several napkins as well as the small sheet they give you. I did and the bag still got leaky and stained orange. The leftover "half" sandwich tasted really good cold too. I will definitely go back for the Sloppy Joe and maybe other things - the menus of sandwiches, salads, and pizza all look very appealing, more than the typical sandwich shop.

Finally got to come in and order Hot Tomatoes! The ambiance was a comfortable, modern vibe for take out or dine in. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I ordered to go, the Hot Tomatoes Pie with hot cherry peppers and pepperoni along with the chick a dee salad. The pizza was perfectly crisp and thin, with solid flavors and balance. The pizza size is a decent size and has 8 slices. Coming from NJ and NY it's difficult to find a pizza of that caliber locally and we're so happy we finally have a spot for that well made pie. The salad was also flavorful and paired well with the pizza. We'll definitely be back!(Check out the photos!)

My friends and I decided to order pizza from Hot Tomatoes. We got two Kendall Square pizzas to share for take-out. The toppings felt a bit lackluster and disappointing. One of the pizzas straight up did not have the oven roasted tomatoes indicated in their online description. Each chicken piece was cut up small and did not have much flavor. I enjoyed the crust and appreciated how each slice maintained its shape. I wish the pesto flavor were more apparent, but it was overpowered by the sweet tomato sauce instead. Overall, the pizza tasted fine, but nothing overly impressive. For the price, I am more inclined to other local pizza spots instead.

I'm visiting the USA and wanted to get a good slice of pizza and my daughter had mentioned hearing good things about this place. The whitey appealed to me as I was craving a white pizza. I can honestly say this is the best crust I've eaten ever full stop. I never eat the crust...I leave it in the dish. I was shaking the pepper on the ends and ate every last bite. The pizza was so good. I'm so happy that we could not finish the pie so I can reheat another slice for later. Service was nice too as we sat outside and the waitress brought us everything we needed out there. They have outside seating and inside, both good atmosphere. I might add also that when I came home someone else was pulling up with one of their pizzas and my daughter's roommate had ordered one from there via Grub Hub so it's a popular place and rightly so.

What a lovely new addition to Union Square! Your neighborhood sandwich and pizza shop serving up elevated bites. It is a cute spot with plenty of seating, well lit, and chalkboards advertising the menu. Everything sounded appetizing, but I decided on a hot sandwich. I went with the gobbler and added American cheese. The bread was buttery and toasted nicely. The sandwich was jam-packed with stuffing, turkey, and the cranberry mayo meshed nicely, bringing all of the flavors together. This sandwich was so savory and filling that I was only able to eat half. I was able to eat the other half the next day, and it was still tasty left over. I got a side of elbow pasta salad, which was also really yummy! I have my eye on the pizza for my next visit!

This place is absolutely amazing. We were recommended to go by a friend of mine and tried the "Union Square" sandwich in homage to our home court location. This was a Reuben style sandwich with a very nicely crusted rye bread that was hot of the grille and would crush in your mouth. The cheese was slightly melted and not extremely hot, just the right temperature, so it would not burn the top of your mouth. You could tell that they used high quality ingredients, including the side potato salad that was so good, even for a side dish that is part of the plate. The place has tons of seats, maybe about 20+ high tops and lots of stuff on the menu like pizza, salads, sandwiches and more. This is the best sandwich that I have had anywhere in Massachusetts and definitely worth coming back.I am Latin and my next venture will be their Cuban Sandwich and no doubt try more of their amazing food.Cheers and welcome to Somerville!

Thrilled that they are finally open, we stopped into Hot Tomatoes in Union Square to check out what it has to offer. We were not intending to get anything and just wanted to check out the menu, but the options were irresistible and we ended up leaving with two sandwiches and the signature tomato soup. The North Ender and the Green Monster sandwiches were on point. The flavors were robust, and very well balanced. The bread, oh my, was exceptionally soft and fresh, perfectly complementing the sandwich fillings. It's clear that they put a lot of thought into their combinations, and it definitely paid off! Now, let's talk about that tomato soup. It's not often that you find a tomato soup that strikes the perfect balance of flavors, but Hot Tomatoes has nailed it. It was flavorful, rich, and had that homemade goodness we all crave. What impressed us the most was that it wasn't overly salty, which can be a deal-breaker. We appreciated how natural taste of the ingredients shined.Beyond the delicious food, the atmosphere inside Hot Tomatoes is cozy and inviting, making it a great place for a casual meal or a quick bite. And, to top it all off, the owner Phil is the nicest guy ever, embodying neighborhood hospitality and charm at its best! We're thrilled to have Hot Tomatoes in the neighborhood, and we can't wait to explore more of their menu. If you're in the mood for authentic Italian flavors and a warm, welcoming ambiance, do yourself a favor and give Hot Tomatoes a try. You won't be disappointed!Buon appetito!photography: @bengebo

Fantastic little gem! So clean! Such kind and nice people! And the food - oh my goodness! So good! I had the Union Station, and got extra Russian dressing. I mean, it was huge, messy, and soooo good! My fellow diner had their Little Chick-A-Dee salad. She felt the flavor was great, but the high sided plate was too small for the amount of lettuce and toppings. She did leave about a 1/3 of the lettuce. But she thoroughly enjoyed it. We stumbled upon it in trying to get to the coffee shop that used to be next door but is now closed. A happy accident, and next time we are coming through Cambridge/Boston, definitely plan to make another stop here to try some of the other delicious sounding sandwiches and salads! Oh - they do have pizza as well. lol Haven't tried but looked good - thin, foldable, and a fellow patron was telling the team it was so good too.

O'my this was a fantastic experience. Some traditional sandwiches, some new concepts for sandwiches ! We had the steak and cheese with caramelized onions as well as the Gobbler (Turkey, stuffing and cranberry) and they were HUGE sandwiches. We had to take most of them home and that's because I judge a place on their pizza, WHICH they also sell by the slice. I went with plain cheese and I feel it's a top 5 pizza from Somerville to North End. Try this place ! Outdoor seating too ! Inside is beautiful and they have a liquor license which they are looking to use in late September or early October ! Fan 'freakin" tastic !!!!
