Hoshi Ya Sushi

Got takeout from Hoshi Ya. They have a nice cash deal where you can order any two rolls from their select list for $12 with a side of miso soup. We ordered a spicy salmon maki and a crazy maki. The spicy salmon had thick salmon pieces, tempura crumbs, and spicy mayo rolled in rice. The crazy maki had shrimp tempura, avocado, rolled in rice, and a layer of seaweed. Overall, both rolls were tasty and pretty much a steal at under $6 each. The only thing that was slightly annoying was that the salmon pieces were so thick, it made it hard to take a bite from it, you had to eat them whole (I have no idea if I explained this well, haha).It's a no frills joint, they were quick with the order. Seemed to only have a online order service, because I had a hard time finding a phone number. They also deliver, and it's a small charge based on the radius.For a simple sushi night, I'd definitely go back here.

Ordered pickup via Grubhub and order was ready in 20 minutes! 3 rolls: Unagi Spicy Salmon Maki, Black Forest Maki, Spicy Scallop Maki at $6.50 each, and unagi sushi. Order came with two little cups of soy sauce.The rolls weren't as packed as I'd hoped they'd be but they were fresh and tasty. The eel sushi was really good and sauced well. Not a bad local spot to get sushi.

Love the sashimi here but the maki is okay.I saw that the reviews for Hoshi Ya are pretty positive so I decided to try them out. Like others have mentioned, delivery takes about an hour, but I was prepared to wait so it was not too bad.I ordered the sashimi combo entree ($26.95), negi-hama maki ($5.50), volcano maki ($6.95), and the torched white tuna maki ($11.95).The sashimi combo entree came with one of those small cardboard takeout boxes full of rice. It also came with a pretty big container of miso soup. The miso soup was underseasoned. There were 5 different cuts of fish with 3 pieces each, and all of the fish was super fresh and buttery. The pieces of fish were of a reasonable size. I'd probably skip the combo next time and just order the sashimi separately, since the rice and miso soup were pretty underwhelming.I wasn't particularly blown away by the maki. The negi-hama maki was alright, the fish was fresh but the rice wasn't super flavorful. The other two rolls I ordered were drenched in sauce so it was difficult to taste the flavor of the fish. The rolls were thin so the portion of fish was small to begin with. At the same time, the maki was priced very reasonably so this would be a good budget-friendly sushi place.There are so many options for sushi in the Boston area that I can't see myself ordering from here again. However, the fish here is fresh and everything is fairly priced so this is a great place to get sushi and save a little money!

I was craving sushi so I decided to give this spot a try. It was good and they're open late as well.I'm not sure of the promotion, but I think if you order 3 rolls, you get a choice of edamame or seaweed salad. I chose seaweed salad.I ordered California maki, spider maki, and the hoshi ya maki. Spider and hoshi ya were both pretty good, Cali was pretty basic. Next time, I would request extra soy sauce. Would definitely come back. They also offer delivery, but it might be fast to come pick it up.

This was my 2nd time coming to this location. It's conveniently located near Brighton Oak Square. I did a cash deal, which was $16.95. This deal includes any 3 rolls with miso soup. I ordered 2 combos which came with a free side of edamame! The quality of all the sushi seemed to be fresh. Also, the rolls were packed, good value for what you get. What I got for $40:2 spicy tuna rolls1 spicy salmon roll2 eel rolls1 crazy maki roll2 miso soups1 container of edamame I loved the taste of all the rolls. I think my favorite is either the spicy salmon or crazy roll. The miso soup was yummy and the edamame were delicious!! I would recommend this place. The cash deal is great value.

Excellent local sushi choice, best in Brighton. Great fresh sushi, great portions and solid delivery. These are my go to location over ten years. Great cash and carry deal as well.

Extremely disappointing service, quality and taste. My first time trying a local sushi place and even brought my friends. The cashier was pretty rude and demanding simply when we wanted to pay separately... but that's not the worst of it.The tempura was hard and rubbery and even after calling the woman on the phone argued with me that the fried fish I got was soft shell crab... even though I know the texture and look of soft shell crab and it was absolutely fish. The sushi as well didn't have much flavor. The beef wagyu was decent but doesn't match the price they charge. Extremely disappointing experience and for a small business it's disheartening when you try to give an opportunity to correct the mistake and they'd rather be petty and argue than maintain a loyal customer. Wouldn't recommend and I don't think I'll be back...

So happy I found my new favorite sushi place. I go to school nearby, but live North of Boston, so I've tried a few places. When I tell you....I never order spicy tuna because sometimes the texture is off and it can taste like you're eating a spoonful of mayo...well, not anymore!!! I got the Spicy Fish Maki Combo and the Maki Combo Entree. SO. GOOD. First of all, I was rushing and forgot my mask. The owner did not yell at me (I went back to get it), which was a plus. It smelled amazing in there--like fresh sushi rice and fresh fish. And the flavor and quantity was on point.Great value, great deals, awesome food, easy-going customer service. And awesome job at limiting contact during COVID! It's a win for me. Thank you Hoshi Ya for an incredible takeout experience!

My favorite sushi spot in Oak Square. It's nothing crazy special tbh but it always just simply fresh and good. Best reliable, affordable sushi place. I like how they keep the salmon in a big piece in their spicy salmon rolls. And their rice is flavorful and just right. The black capillary is also a good specialty roll. They do cash deals. I wouldn't say I love their sides, so I recommend stick with sushi, edamame, and miso. Definitely not a sit down spot, get it to go.

We have FINALLY found our go to sushi place!!! Everything was so delicious and abundant. We got the makimono combos, salmon lover and sashimi appetizer. Got a free seaweed salad.
