This place is fire! My partner and I ordered three food items: a sausage and Parmesan quiche, a ratatouille hand pie (empanada?) and a banana cream pie. All were fantastic, but I will remember banana cream one for a long time. Nothing hugely innovative about it, but it was exactly what you'd want a banana cream pie to be: thick and custardy, sweet (but not overly) and milky, spiked with vanilla, and with a crisp and buttery crust. My orange and cardamom latte was also super tasty. Hoosier Mama's back patio is very peaceful, and the decor inside has that homey, midwestern grandmother feel. Can't recommend this place enough.

Everyone I asked about what I should try in Chicago was RAVING about this place, and maybe that's part of the reason why my expectations were so high.. tbh the vibes are pretty cool, but everything is way too expensive for what you're getting. We ordered quite a few different items: quiche, pastries, empanada thingies... all of them were a bit dry (except the quiche. That was good)Would I come back? Maybe if it was convenient. But I'm not going out of my way to come here

So deserving of its high reviews! This place turned me into a pie-lover.I tried the banana cream pie (just a quick bite before I left Chicago). It was the most unforgettable bite of my whole trip. I'm not usually a fan of banana cream (not a fan of Magnolia Bakery's banana pudding either) but this place hits all the marks-- the cream is pillowy, sweet (with no artificial flavors) and speckled with vanilla bean; the slivers of banana are tender yet firm, and the crust is buttery and flaky. Truly everything I could ask for in a pie. Service is quick. You can choose to dine in, where you can eat a warmed-up pie and admire the kitschy interior (there's a collection of pie tins decorating the wall) or take one to-go-- locals seem to do the latter. A lot of folks get the chicken pot pie-- I'll definitely try that next.

A hot Americano and a piece of breakfast pie is the best Saturday morning I can think of. Patio couldn't be cuter with a water feature and Parisian cafe music in the background. Cute inside but a little cramped. Be prepared to wait in line but it's totally that good. Definitely lives up to the old style pie shop claim. Lots of options to have fun with.

Finally got to try the famous pies from this bakery.Ordered the chess pie for Christmas and added in pecan pie my husband's favorite. Crust is buttery and flaky (sturdy). I really enjoyed the chess pie which is basically a giant brownie pie. Pecan pie flavors are spot on. Wish the crust was a bit more crumbly but that's the fun of trying all the pie places

You step into this place and you feel like you've been transported back in time. It gives very much an old school diner feel, but like progressive. The smells are immaculate, in fact I don't know if there are better smells in Chicago. The prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. We took our slices to go slices to go but there was seating inside and in their back patio area. We got several flavors and they were kind of hit if miss depending on your preference. Our favorite was the strawberry sour cream. The blueberry apple was also good. The coconut crème lacked the flavor I was expecting. This place cranks out a variety of flavor in both sweet and savory so trust and believe I will be keeping an eye on the flavors to see when I'll make a trip back.

Amazing apple pie - full of flavor without being heavy, and the best cup of coffee I've had in the whole city of Chicago.

Purchased two of their small pies from Green City Market, an apple and a strawberry rhubarb. I know this place gets good reviews and all, but man I'm sorry these were not the greatest pies. The apple was way too sweet, while the strawberry was a bit better. The undercrust on both was soggy and undone, and not very flaky. The filling was too heavy and crust too thin for the amount of filling. At $12 each for a small, I didn't think it was much better than a larger pie you would get at Mariano's or some other grocery store.
