I like to support local businesses and love my sushi, so our party of three decided to try out this food place at the New Ohana Hale building. So why a 3? This place has so much potential, but needs some loving put into it. First of all, I felt that the staff were not properly trained in service. For example, when asking for wasabi and ginger, they provided us with a squeeze bottle for the wasabi that was filled with a lot of liquid rather than wasabi, and a glass container of wasabi that looked like they use to serve others. We saw a person on an ig post about this restaurant serving freshly grated wasabi and that was not what we got. Plus, in the video, her portions differed from what we were served (as in she got way more than what we were served). I feel that all diners should get treated the same when eating at any establishment.I must say, I did love the taste of the spicy ahi and the spicy bomb.I do hope that they do get their quality more up-to-par because I like to see small local businesses succeed.

A secret gem at the intersection of Ala Moana Boulevard and Kalākaua Avenue. After a long day of meetings, we wandered into this beautiful building with 20 ft. + ceilings and an open floor plan. Having tried many of the best sushi and izakaya restaurants in Waikiki, I can honestly say "Wasabi" has the most amazing temaki hand rolls; the nori has the perfect crunch, the spicy tuna is perfection, and the rice has a quality that is on par with the sushi rice in Japan - the perfect consistency and moisture with ratio of seasoning.I tried the spicy tuna temaki, veggie temaki, and A1-Wagyu (Japanese steak like butter - so soft and melt in your mouth) nigiri, and ahi sashimi (smooth, super fresh high-quality local-caught ahi). It's BYOB for now which is convenient because they are directly across from the Waikiki Brewing Co. I should have took photos but it was too delicious and we were too excited. The chefs and service were awesome too - sharing their experiences of being on the ocean - fishing from a boat and being blessed by a Tiger shark. I will definitely be back as both quality and service are exceptional.

Located in the new Ohana Hale Waikiki; this place is newly opened. Saw some great instagram reviews and we were sold. Overall, I would say that my experience at the sushi bar was disappointing. While the atmosphere was fine, the food and service left much to be desired.Starting with the sushi itself, I found it to be mediocre at best. The fish didn't taste particularly fresh, and the rolls lacked creativity and flavor. Additionally, the portions were quite small for the price. (Ordered a total of 6 dishes which came out to $90a+What is a little colorless is that the place is called wasabi and we were given a S&B squeezable wasabi.... Beats me. Maybe they were short staffed? In terms of service, the staff seemed disinterested and unengaged. Our waiter was slow to take our order, and we had to repeatedly ask for drink refills. Moreover, the sushi chef seemed unenthusiastic about his work and didn't engage with us or offer any recommendations. What was good though was the wagyu, that was about it. Overall, I would not recommend this sushi bar. While it may be fine for a quick bite, there are plenty of other sushi restaurants in the area that offer better quality food and service for a similar price.

We stopped into Wasabi for a quick snack while exploring the new Ohana Hale marketplace and it was very good! Spicy ahi hand roll had bubu arare for an added crunch and wasn't too spicy. We ordered the crab bomb but since they were out of imitation crab they substituted it for lobster! It was soo good. The waiter/sushi chef was personable and really nice. He said next time we have to try the dynamite roll, which we definitely will be coming back for!

Heard about this place, so I had to try it. They've been open for a little over 3 weeks, so I would have thought they would have gotten all of the bugs out, but not quite yet. They have a lot of potential, though. When we walked in, no one was behind the counter, and there was a couple with a baby sitting at the counter. We didn't know if we could sit anywhere or if we needed to wait. The couple just looked at us but didn't say anything. Then a guy came running down the stairs and told us we could sit where we wanted. We ordered a variety of dishes. Then I noticed the guy who was sitting at the counter with the baby got up and walked behind the counter to help the other guy. We saw pictures of some of the items from someone else's review, and the lobster temaki was a large chunk of meat. However, when we received ours, it was a bunch of chopped up lobster(disappointing). They didn't have wasabi or ginger, so we asked. They brought a tube of wasabi(that was watery) and a container of ginger with saran wrap over it. It looked like they passed it from customer to customer(not sanitary, as other chopsticks may have been in it). The spicy temaki was very good. I noticed they would make one temaki and bring it to one person in our party, then go back and make another temaki and bring it, and this would go on and on until we received everything(each on its own dish). I'd recommend they make all of the same type, then bring them and place it on your dish. This is how most sushi bars that I've been to do it. This would help with dish washing, and everyone gets theirs at the same time. I'd also recommend that they provide the sushi chefs with jackets, just so they "look the part." Another recommendation would be to set up multiple prep stations. Another couple sat next to us, and they didn't greet them or give them menus, water, etc... Don't get me wrong, they were friendly, but just not attentive/polished(if you know what I mean). They might want to invest in better stools. The stool I had kept dropping on its own. I'm 205, but it should be able to handle that. I changed stools, and it got me through until we finished. Had the wagyu nigiri, and it was tasty. I'm not sure, but it looked like he cut it from a frozen block. It's not that big of a deal. It tasted pretty good but slightly overpriced. Think I'll wait a bit before going back, but I'll give them another shot. Hopefully, they will make some adjustments, so they can stay in business for a long time. Give them a try and post your experience.Happy eating and Alooooooooooha.

Waikiki is known for being a tourist hotspot but finding local gems is the best part of traveling. A surprisingly high quality and delicious sushi bar located in what seems to be a random food court in Waikiki. We had some melt-in-your-mouth wagyu, decadent king crab, locally caught ono, and staple spicy tuna along with some other items that we left the chef choose. Since they get fresh fish daily from market, getting chef recommendations will ensure the best experience. The ambiance isn't exactly what you would expect about Waikiki. There are no ocean views here but there is something quintessentially Hawaiian about the random decor and fountain soda that will make you feel less like a tourist and more like a local.

The ONLY thing that was good about this was the poor guy working alone. Food terrible and over priced for a hand roll. The lobster hand roll is what I ordered and a brisk tea that was so watered down it tasted like maybe 3 month old tea water. The lobster was so over cooked it was HARD TO CHEW ! It looked good but it's not. NOT TO FORGET the flies the size of your hand will join you in eating your food. There's not even any attempt to shoo them away while they land on your food while the poor guy is preparing it. The wait for two hand rolls was about 40 min. And the food was gross

Absolutely fabulous sushi in an area with a lot of sub-par Japanese places... this is the place you wanna go to!! And they validate your hourly parking ticket at the lot right next door on Niu street (Hawaiian Monarch) which is a huge plus!

First time in Wasabi and it will not be my last! It's a great new spot with amazing food. The lobster roll and tempura is to die for. There are so many things on the menu, you'd have to try. The service we received was so amazing. We sat right in front of an excellent and experienced sushi chef name Don and was able to watch our food be prepared. One of the owners came and actually grated fresh wasabi for each of us to try!! SO ONO!! The staff made us feel welcomed and gave us an A1 experience. Place it located at the Ohana Hale right at the beginning on Waikiki strip. I'd recommend everyone to come and try wasabi.
