Sizzling beef tenderloin...DO NOT RECOMMEND! It was chewy and very peppery.. you can see it in the photo how it's loaded with black pepper.

I gotta give it up for Waimalu Chop Suey, as I feel it's time to update my review of this Chinese restaurant. Yes, I haven't forgotten the cockroach incident, but that's in the past, and when I think about it, I just have to laugh. Lol!So my dad had some friends visiting from the mainland, and one evening I decided to take them out to a Chinese restaurant they haven't tried before - Waimalu Chop Suey. What can I say about Waimalu Chop Suey? It's your basic old school, mom & pop Chinese restaurant. The dated décor of the restaurant is definitely old school with those vinyl booths, and of course they have another section within the restaurant to accommodate larger parties with large tables. After entering the restaurant, we were greeted right away, and menus were dropped off. Upon looking over the menu, I decided to get a fixed menu for (4) people, and added two more dishes to our meal.We ordered the following dishes on the fixed meal -Scallop SoupChinese Chicken SaladTender Beef Sizzling PlatterHoney Walnut ShrimpChicken with AsparagusFried NoodlesDessertAnd the added the two following items -1/2 order Peking Duck with BunsSteamed Fish Fillet with Ginger & Onion SauceWhat can I say about the grub? The food was tasty and the portions were more than generous, but I would say that the star of the meal was that Peking Duck! The Peking Duck was very meaty, and who wouldn't turn down some duck skin in a bun? Lol!After enjoying our meal, there were lots of leftovers to take home afterwards.Service was on point, and our waitress was very friendly. Just an FYI.........if you like Gau Gee, this is the place to check out! Don't bother to order the soft gau gee, order the deep fried crispy gau gee! It's totally worth it, even if you doctor lectures you about eating stuff like that! Lol!

The food was just ok and service was not great. We went in and were told to sit wherever. We sat and they came by with menus and water. The waitress took a very long time to return back to take our order. Eventually we place our order and it did not take very long till they start bringing our food out. They brought everything out besides the rice. We reminded the waitress and even still it took a long time for her to bring out the rice and we couldn't start eating without it. The food was ok but not as good as other Chinese restaurants near by. Portions are very small which surprised me. Usually Chinese restaurants have bigger portions because it's family style where the whole table shares... one portion really is enough for one person so make sure to keep a menu so you can order more or just order extra from the get go. After we received the food we pretty much did not get any help after that. I saw the other tables had tea, we did not get any.. I also saw waitresses bring the bill to some of the other tables, we had to go to the register to ask for ours. It was just very obvious that our table was being treated poorly there compared to other guests. Maybe it's cause every one else was Chinese but my table wasn't... I really don't know why my table in specific was not being treated good from the start. Overall I will never be back there. Food was decent and service was even worse. I would give another chance if one or the other was amazing but food and service not great... won't be back.

The food was okay. However our server was not nice or friendly. She automatically brought forks instead of asking us if we would like forks or chopsticks. So we asked for chopsticks and she gave us a look like, what? Then we see all the other tables are getting hot tea so we asked if we could get hot tea and she gave us the look again.Towards the end, other waitresses came to service us. They were much nicer but the establishment needs to do something about that one waitress. Better training or something. She had a bad attitude. For me, it doesn't matter how good the food is if the service is bad.

Bottom line, this is a cheap no-frills Chinese place that will serve you quantity over quality. Not gonna lie though, I felt pretty gross afterwards and severely needed fresh veggies lol. Went there for lunch and got the dinner plate, because honestly it was only like 65 cents extra compared to lunch plate for fried shrimp and fried rice. The sheer amount of options and different items on the plate make it cost effective, but temper your expectations because the food is very meh. Even the pork were all cold, signifying they're just reheating it all out of the fridge. The fried shrimp was way too much batter. The chow mein was good, but the sauce was so gloopy with corn starch. Could only finish half, and debating if I wanna finish the other half for lunch tomorrow BUT! THE WINNER WINNET GAU GEE DINNER. So the fried gau gee is $14.99 and comes in a portion of 8, but jeez Louise are these the BIGGEST PLUMPEST GAU GEE you ever did see. Like they're so stuff, and worth the price. A side dish of mustard comes too so you can make your own shoyu mustard for dipping. All else, I will just be ordering these gau gee for potlucks.Service was fine, servers were nice. Lots of tables inside. Again, no frills.

We wanted something quick for dinner so we stopped by Waimalu Chop Suey. We heard the fried rice was good so we wanted to try it. She wanted some Kau Gee so we ordered that also. The fried rice was delicious and the Kau Gee were huge. One was enough for me with my fried rice. The waitress was nice and spoke English so don't worry about needing to converse in Cantonese. Ample seating available if you're planning to have a family gathering or special event. Prices are reasonable for some delicious Chinese cuisine. Takeout orders are welcomed as well.

We decided to eat here for New Year's Day 2025. My Uncle wanted to eat the Crispy Gau gee from here. He is visiting us from California and wanted to see if the gau gee still tasted the same. He said it was tasty and it tasted the same as he remembered. The three of us ordered the Special plate for Lunch and side order of gau gee (8pcs.). Everything was the right temperature and tasted really good. We all Enjoyed our lunch and the hot tea. Great Service

Really disappointed. I had Uber credit that was expiring so I used it here. It's been a long time since I last ate here. I ordered the Boneless minute chicken and Chrispy Gau Chee. The good: The gau chee was huge and tasty. The bad: the boneless minute chicken was just that. I saw there was add on options for different noodles with an up charge, but thought there was a standard noodle that came with it. I was wrong. The chicken itself was tasty but chewy. It also was on the greasy side. My mouth was coated with grease after eating each piece. I'm glad that I had hot tea with my meal to cut the grease. Granted Uber jacks up the price but for the price, but I could get minute chicken with crispy noodles for a lot less at other places. Overall, this was a one and done for me. Can't recommend this place.

Hands down the best crispy Gau Gee I've ever had. A friend of mine would always bring them to potlucks. They are plumply stuffed with filling that has just the right amount of seasoning, you don't even need sauce. I ordered their large platter, which had 60 and was $104.00. I was stuck at work and ran late to pick up my order. They helped keep it warm. When I arrived at my party, they quickly disappeared. Some guests guessed where it was from based on the size, shape, crispiness, and taste. I went back a second time the next day to get more. This time I wasn't sharing. One side order of eight is $13.99. If you haven't tried these, you need to.

We came back again for crispy gau gee, for both of my parents as it's my mom's favorite and had the sour cabbage with pork for my dad which was also good. We also tried the chow fun and I enjoyed it. I can't get chow fun at many places back home so I enjoy it here when I visit here. They have some new dim sum menu items that are the usuals. The service was quick. The bathroom door doesn't lock and didn't appear clean. We stood guard at the door for each other. The floors in the restaurant are very sticky which was not pleasant. Overall, prefer takeout for now as the food is great.

We held a Luncheon there for 55 customers which we took 7 tables you can BYOB, the biggest problem was a group that large it was hard for the late arrivals to find parking spaces, so it is better to go early to make sure you can get parking. They are known for the largest Crispy Gau gee which is packed full with meat, which came out nice and crispy and hot.The noodles and fried rice came on last so there was a lot left over because everyone was eating the other dishes, so better to inform the waitress that you want the fried rice and noodles first before the other dishes. The beef broccoli was fresh and the meat was tender with a nice oyster sauce. The shrimp and broccoli were good, but should have gotten shrimp with vegetables instead. The cashew and fried tofu with vegetables was okay. The Chinese chicken salad was good the dressing is on the light side and the shredded chicken was flavorful.Fried rice was good but should have brought it out earlier.Crispy chicken with won ton was very tasty and flavorful, but if you are on a low sodium diet don't order it or let them know little or low salt.Service for items like chop sticks, Shoyu, Sauce dish, mustard or chili sauce you might have to get your own or you will be waiting for a while. They only have 1 toilet, because they haven't fixed the other restroom that has been broken for a while, make sure to lock the door when using. For groups or large party they charge automatically 18 percent tip. They do accept charge, cash
