Beach Park was pretty empty today, but only had (1) parking space open. Where is everybody?

There's just something about the beach...Probably is because I search for all my shells personally which are treasures from the beach no diving just walking along as I love the escape along side of the waves.Wailupe Beach Park is a place I happen upon as I had plans to go elsewhere only to make the wrong turn and ended up here, this tiny but lovely park. Just at the end of the H1 East bound freeway which starts with Kalanianaole Hwy is this little escape where there's a few parking stalls, benches and restrooms it's not much of a sandy beach as it's mostly rocks but the views are just breathtaking and calming, I was looking for a photo op for my newest bangle creation...on that I've been working on for awhile trying to figure out how to design.Ikigai...not to just find meaning but what makes you happy the Japanese way of finding your ikigai and after much thought came up with the rings of Ikigai. Though there was no wind on this humid hot day the views was so relaxing I found myself just getting lost in the beautiful scene we're so blessed to have and thank you for the spot to show my newest bangle.Thank you!

Aaaaah, one of my old stomping grounds back in my high school dayz, & college dayz! Wailupe Beach Park is a small little park, located kinda near the Aina Haina Fire Station (across the street). This little park has a few picnic tables, restroom, and lots of free parking in the private parking lot.Wailupe Beach park is pretty popular for the fisherman, as I see a lot of folks fishing here (day or night........doesn't matter). The park is also a great place to have a picnic, as this park is not overcrowded (as a lot of people don't know about this place). Back in da dayz, we used to hang here late at night after we played ball. It was mainly a place to hang and have a few "beverages". Nobody really bothered us.........with the exception of the cops who would come by to talk to us, because ummmmmmmm, how should I say this? When you're young, & have too much testosterone in your blood.........sometimes we would get too loud, causing someone to call da cops on us. Lucky thing for us tho, the cops would be pretty cool, and basically told us that they didn't mind da "beverages", but to keep the noise level down. Lol! Aaaaah, some fun memories from the past! Lol!It's been a very long time since I've come here, and the park hasn't changed much through the years. It's nice to see that the park is still well kept, but I did notice today that there were two portable toilets in front of the restroom. (I'm taking they are making some repairs in the restroom?)A great park to relax, and have some quiet time with family & friends. Good fishing spot too!

A beach is a beach, isn't it? It's an oasis that can pass you by if you aren't paying close attention. I remember spending one visits with friends here, one of which was on the eve of my 39th bday in 2018. On my last visit here in May 2020, it was nice to be here, especially with the pandemic in full swing and the current state of affairs that exploded on the mainland USA. It was a nice change of scenery that helped me give some pause and courage to reflect on things. Wailupe beach park is one of those beaches you'd find off the side of the highway anywhere on Oahu., usually you'd pass by while driving or catching the bus. I arrived here on a casual May 2020 afternoon. The beauty of this beach park is that there is restroom facilities here, but is frequented by homeless persons sometime. There's a bus stop next to the beach park, so you can get here any time you want. It's about maybe 1/2 mile from Kalani High School to the beach park and about ¼ mile from Aina Hina shopping center. Walking here is a nice option, although there's sidewalk on one side of the highway and a highway shoulder on the other. During my stay here at Wailupe beach park, I sat at one of the benches here and people watched. At times, I would venture out to the sand and hang out there too, but don't go into the water. The ocean waves were soothing and calming, while the trade winds helped calmed and rejuvenated my soul that day. I do love what Mother Nature has created when she created Hawaii and this beach park is only one small example of this. The overall experience here at Wailupe Beach Park is always nice. Somewhat exclusive, since it's a place where time slow s down quite a bit when you're just wanting to decompress and kill time. During my stay here at Wailupe Beach Park, I saw many cars pass by on the highway, a few buses heading east and westbound, and a bunch of people enjoying the beach. Enjoying this slice of paradise is great since not many people come through here on a weekend casually. I spent about 2 hours here enjoying the waves and cleared my head that was filled with a lot of stuff. Decluttering the mind thru mother nature's beauty really does cleanse the spirit and the soul. The beach itself isn't too large, but you can find a place to sit down and relax. If you are in the area and want to be away from crowds and Waikiki, consider coming here to Wailupe beach park. It's on the way to or from Haunama Bay. I'd definitely recommend it, if you want that me time to declutter your brain for a moment. Wailupe Beach park is located at 5045 Kalanianaole Highway, Honolulu 96821. Nearby is the neighborhood fire station and the Aina Haina shopping center is about ¼ mile away. Like all community parks, there is no admission fee to come here and chill. The beach park is maintained by the good folks by the City and County of Honolulu - Department of Parks and Rec, but it's always nice to pick up after yourselves so that the park is enjoyable to come to every day. For the most part though, coming here to watch the sunset or sunrise is a good idea. It makes life seem worth it at times, watching mother nature's body of work. As far as parking goes, there is public parking, although it's quite limited. Best bet would be to come here early enough to secure a nice slot. If you are like me, there is a bus stop that stops right in front of the beach park. Routes 1, 1L, 22, 23, and 24 come through the area. Do yourself a favor and stop on by. Mother Nature would be happy you did.5.0 stars for the overall experience.Support local!A+

A nice park just down from the shopping centre (where you can park at). I like how it is more peaceful than other parks in the area. It's a great place to relax for enjoy the waves. People have been friendly at this park so you can go here and relax without all of the noise you may get elsewhere.

Torn about writing a review for this awesome beach! As a surfer, I'd like to keep this gem a semi-secret. Uncrowded waves are a rarity these days and nice to have a spot that isn't on the radar. As a yelper, I just can't help myself! ;)The Good:Waves are pretty amazing to epic when the tide is right and the right swell angle is hitting the reef!(Yes, I said reef) This spot loves south groundswells. The wave is suited to both high performance surfing and logging(longboarding) alike. Lengthy rides and an uncrowded lineup make Wailupe a pretty amazing place to surf. The Bad:Getting here is tough unless you have a key or live in Wailupe Cir. Most people park across the street in the Aina Haina Foodland parking lot and walk across. (This is probably what keeps the crowds away!) This is also not the best beach to sun or swim because of the ruggedness of this part of the coast. The Ugly:The paddle is a long one out to the peak can be a gnarly reef break especially when it's low tide and the swell is pumping like today. I'd highly recommend only intermediate to expert surfers out here because it breaks over a shallow, jagged and unforgiving reef. Then again, what really great wave doesn't have risk? Did I also mention the fish? Tales of some large fish have been spotted here. The Recap:Wailupe is a semi-secret awesome wave that's tough to get to. (Good because we don't want this place to turn into Waikiki...lol) It's a technical wave when there's a pumping swell with certain tide conditions. So, if you're reading this and you're a surfer...keep this one a secret and I'll see you out in the water! Mahalo for the read,Nicco
