Beautiful ambience - quiet, intimate, decoration was calming, artistic and very tasteful. Food was wonderful. We came here for a late snack....4/5 Truffle fries - simple skinny fries with nori seasoning5/5 shokudo roll - fresh fish, not too much sauce. You could taste the sushi ingredients5/5 mermaid roll - perfectly fried shrimp. Not oily, spicy fish on top of the roll was great. 3/5 Crab croquette expected something different. The inside was too mushy for my taste. The outside texture was great. 5/5 lychee tini - sake and lychee = a bomb combination5/5 tako karage - so yummy!!100/100 butter fish - melted in our mouths. Literally like a marshmallow. So delicious and flavorfulWe arrived late, lots of people there, server was friendly and attentive. Side note - the water cups were really aesthetic. Silver with designs imprinted on it. The server said they might've been found on Amazon lol. Everything about this place felt so Japanese- functional, beautiful and quality. Parking was difficult and you need to walk up stairs to get to the restauraunt.

This fairly new location, located in Waikiki is definitely not somewhere I would come all the time because of the parking but it definitely was worth going to. Very different from all the other Shokudo restaurants. When you get there it doesn't look like much, but you look up and see a bright neon "Shokudo" sign and have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant. My friend and I went to a concert and made a very late 10pm reservation. We made it just in time for our reservation. When we got here it wasn't busy at all. But in the time we were there, it got really busy and almost every table in our section was taken. Our waitress was very nice and explained their specials and brought us waters. We got the yukari fries, garlic shrimp rice, chicken karaage, aburi salmon sushi roll, mochi cheese gratin, mini ika stick, and of course honey toast. Everything was so so good. I could've done without the fries because they were cold and not cooked good. But other than that everything was so tasty. All the flavors from each dish reminded me of Japan's iazakaya places. If parking wasn't an issue, I definitely would come here more. Prices are not bad considering it's in Waikiki and it's izakaya. But parking was so expensive and we almost got the car locked in the parking garage because it was so late. Other than that, great place to enjoy good food and good company!

Intimate restaurant, good for sharing small plates for a lighter dinner. There are many hot and cold appetizer options, and our waitress advised us that the charcoal grill was their specialty. We opted for trying several dishes and one of their specials to get a feel of all they offered. What we got:- Homemade tofu - light, good with or without the sauce that came on the side- Agebitashu - wish there was more eggplant than shishito peppers because the eggplant was really tasty from being marinated in the light soy broth- Spam katsu - one of the specials of the night, good but not out of this world- Miso butterfish - melts in your mouth, 2nd favorite dish of the night- Ichibo steak - favorite dish of the night, perfectly cooked - Honey toast for dessert - unique dessert, good size to share for 2 people, and topped with macadamia nut ice creamWe ate on the later side of the evening and were hungry so I forgot to take pictures of some of the dishes, but solid meal overall.

This shokudo location is small and cozy, tucked away upstairs from the street. It's got nice ambiance and decent service. The food items were hit and miss. Some things were amazing while others failed to wow. The yakisoba was delicious. It had lots of charred goodies like onions and eggs and a decent potion of melt in your mouth thinly sliced pork belly. The noodles were perfectly cooked Al dente with a good bouncy bite. The Mochi cheese gratin dish sounded great on the menu but it was a bust. There was barely any cheese. The Mochi itself was bland and the mentaiko was very fishy. The miso butterfish was the worst I've ever had and I normally LOVE this! It was a big fat piece of stewed wet fish filled with bones. It lacked the broiled miso sauce flavors and textures that most places serve. We barely touched it and let our server know it wasn't good and he just shrugged it off. They have a mini Motsunabe soup with daikon and carrots that is so tasty. The broth is slightly sweet and has lots of umami. The only issue I had with it was there was only 3 small pieces of intestines inside. And a few pieces of veggies. It's served in a very small shallow bowl. I was the one who ordered it While everyone else said "ewwww" and then everyone else at the table gobbled it down, including the "vegan" amongst us. LOL!The star of the show is always the honey toast and we opted for macadamia nut ice cream. It was amazing! The contrast of buttery honey drizzled crispy hot toast with cold and creamy ice cream pairs so well. The bill wasn't too bad for 4 people to eat in Waikīkī. Overall, this is a solid pick if you can get a table. I'm not sure if wait longer than 20 minutes to eat there if there's a wait.

Amazing little Izakaya in Waikiki. They serve small plate dishes and traditional bar fare. The waitress was patient in explaining the large menu to us and what to expect with the food. They had a special which included an appetizer, pork based miso soup and an alcoholic drink (whisky highball is what I chose) I found that special to be good dollar to value. Overall really enjoyed the dining experience and atmosphere. I felt swept away to Japan but conveniently on the shores of Waikiki.

We had an incredible dinner here. The atmosphere of the restaurant was welcoming and cozy. Our waitress was amazing with explaining the specials and menu items along with answering our question regarding food allergies. We enjoyed the mixed sashimi, jidori chicken, and the ichibo steak. The fish was fresh and tasty. The charcoal flavor on the chicken and steak was delicious. I was so surprised that wasabi pairs so well with steak!Don't miss out on this spot!

It has to mean something when we visited twice within three days! The first time we came, we sat at the bar. Really great bartender, I didn't catch her name but she was awesome at suggestions on paring sake with food. We ordered just about everything she suggested and we were so pleased that the second time we came we brought more of out family with us to try this place out... along with their 3 liter tower of beer. The location is super inconspicuous but it was worth taking the chance because it had everything we wanted. Great ambiance, super amazing service, and fabulous food!

Solid izakaya restaurant! Came here because the menu looked interesting and found the dishes to be very reasonably priced. We made a reservation via Open Table, and that seemed to be the way to go since it's a smaller space. The waitress was friendly and the dishes we ordered came out super fast, like mere minutes after we ordered. For cold apps/plates:Okra Ohitashi ($6) - okra marinated with dashi and topped with bonito flakes and strands of red chili. Okra was very crunchy!Agebitashi ($8) - same as above but with eggplant and shishito peppers. Felt healthy and light. Okinawa sweet potato salad ($13) - came with 3 pieces of sweet potato chips, but you can get extra for an additional $2.50. Also came with some ikura sprinkled on top and a soft-boiled egg. Pretty filling dish!Shiso hamachi roll ($16) - fish to rice ratio was not bad. I don't love it when I get a lot of rice and very little fish, but they did good! Also tasted fresh and the shiso was not overpowered. For hot apps/plates:Yukari fries ($5) - HUGE for $5. Could barely finish between 2 people.Miso butterfish ($9) - cooked well, was buttery and sweet. Tako karaage ($12) - the only dish I didn't really care for. I've only tried it in Japan prior, but I felt like it wasn't as good as the first time I had it overseas. They use the baby octopus here for the karaage, whereas in my experience over in Japan, they take regular-sized octopus and chop it up into bite-sized pieces.Yakisoba ($17) - as a noodle lover, YES.Atsuage ($7) - comes with choice of plain or miso and we went with the latter. I think the sweet and salty miso compliments the tofu well.

I didn't know this place is the same one in Ala Moana. I'm glad I found this gem! It's a fun hidden-ish for hang out and chat with friends. The service is amazing, our server is really nice to talk to! We got quite a lot of food but since it's small plate so we were able to finish it all by 2 people. I personally love Mentai Mochi Cheese Gratin. The cheesiness and chewy. With a hint of Mentaiko but it didn't overpower the whole dish. We got all the must gets, garlic pepper rice, mantai yakisoba, wings, and edamame! And pair with a cold beer! Perfect in this heat!
