Sometimes when the better half needs some retail therapy, you have to find something more fun to do to make the time fly by. I usually look for a spot of green on the GPS in the form of a city park. On a recent shopping trip to the Waikele Outlets, I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the nearby Waikele Community Park is!We dropped off the shopper and drove just a few minutes. The park is shaped like a giant half circle with golf condos behind trees around it. The parking lot is very large with plenty of shaded parking. This park is awash in amenities: public clean restrooms, a community pool with generous hours (although be prepared for unexpected closings), a recreation office with many classes and activities, and picnic area (by permit). Everything we explored was spotless, no trash here.Uphill from the pool is a large open field perfect to play games, set up volleyball nets or tents. There was a large family gathering happening while we were there, and it looked so relaxing and shady. This is as perfect as an Oahu city park can be!

Waikele Community Park is a small, but attractive park tucked between the outlets and the houses in Waikele. It features a small pool and a large amount of grass, which is in constant use by the families in the area. We pass this park daily, and are always happy to see kids gathered on the playground equipment and families out enjoying the day.Summer brings Summer Fun, which is run from the small multi-purpose building, and even more kids. On Sundays there is a small farmer's market in the morning. The pool's direct phone number is 808-678-0872.

A shaded park with a pool. The park itself was dead but we met some local kids playing here.

This park is a hidden little gem right in the middle of Waikele. Nope, not the park with the playset, the pool, and the restrooms...the other one! Go down Lumiaina Diamond bound and make a right at the last light before getting to Kam Highway (sorry, but the name of the road escapes me). Just around the bend and on the left, there it is, in all its glory. It's really nothing more than a large open area surrounded by large monkey pod trees, but I'm not complaining. Any large open area where local folks can lay their blankets, their folding chairs, and their heads is a great place. There's lots of shade, but no restrooms.I'm telling you, this is the 'other' park in Waikele...not the one between the outlets and the houses. At any rate, during the week, you'll often times find soccer teams practicing there, and on the weekends, there might just be a few games to watch. During the month of April 2012, the Hawaii Street Soccer organization is having their Futsal matches played there because of 'no room at the inn' at the Waipio Soccer Complex. This park would get five stars if there were restooms. Oh, parking is only on the street. No flat lot!

Ive been going to this park for over 15 years! The park is never busy. I dont think that I have ever seen the parking lot even half full!It contains a big field, a swimming pool ( I think its for Waikele Community residents ), and a small play area for kids. While the park is spacious and has surrounding trees, the only thing lacking is park benches and tables. Thats why if you go to this location, you'll see a bunch of people eating food in their cars! Come on....a park with not tables or benches?

08/16/11: I echo all that Quijana B. writes in her 06.09.11 review. One of the noticeable attractions about this park are the family gatherings and children playing. It's shady, breezy, and the bathrooms are clean and in good (structural) condition. I visit this park almost daily on my dog walk. Beginning at the corner of Lumi'au'au & Lumi'aina, there is a great two-lane walkway that goes straight to the park. The two-lanes are perfect because it allows runners, bikers, dog-walkers to quickly move aside and get out of each other's way. The park is a great place for a rest stop & bathroom break (for humans) before heading back.Yelp 365-Day Challenge #1/365.

went here to swim in the pool on the weekend. They use a saltwater ion system vs. chlorine so the water tastes a little salty but doesn't smell like chlorine and felt soft. Pool is on the shorter side for laps but at least they were open.
