Whenever our family goes to Waianae Korean BBQ, it's always a treat. It's so interesting to think that Waianae has decent Korean food, since the coast is not known for a large Korean diaspora. One of the defining factors for me in an East Asian eatery is the quality of their rice. Waianae Korean BBQ does rice right--their rice is perfect, every single time. Hawaii people tend to be satisfied with wet or mushy rice, as long as it's Calrose (medium-grain) rice. But Waianae Korean BBQ goes the extra mile, and they not only use a tasty medium-grain rice, but it is never mushy or clumpy or wet.The ownership is first-generation Korean, and it is always a treat for me to practice Korean with the Korean woman on the phone when she picks up. The food, as a result, reflects a trend I've seen across the board in Hawaii--the ingredients and preparation methods have progressed with the development of South Korea, but the flavors remain reminiscent of old-school Hawaii-Korean food. My go-to is the meat jun & spicy pork combo, with baechu-gimchi (cabbage kimchi), choy sum, japchae (also spelled chapchae, but please know it's not the same as "long rice" as we know chicken long rice in Hawaiian cuisine), and the gamja-bokkeum (shoyu potato). Get the side order of mandoo (mandu) as well.I guess because Waianae Korean BBQ was established during the COVID-19 pandemic, the interior was meant to be spacious (maybe to allow for social distancing) and is very barebones (maybe to prioritize to-go and phone orders). There are some tables inside now, but it's still nothing floofy or cutesy. In true Waianae style, there is usually Hawaiian music playing over speakers--nothing really particularly "Korean" or even Asian about the ambiance, but I think that's the owners understanding their clientele. It's more Hannara than it is Million or even Chodang. (Hannara is Korean for "Han (Korean) Nation." Compare that with the name for South Korea in Korean, Hanguk, "Han Country.")In short, when you come here, although the ambiance and service feel more westside than Korean, the food is surprisingly rooted in Korea. Prices are reasonable as well, compared to other locally-owned places, and portions are generous. I've uploaded scans of their takeout menu for those who'd like to see what they offer!

Service is outstanding! They are so kind and helpful. My kids are so picky! They just ask for fried rice and no veggies. Just eggs and rice. They may drive me crazy but I appreciate the staff can assist with getting them what they like. I might be obsessed with the glass noodles and whatever soup I wish I could remember the name of though next time I need meatless sound. Next time I need it spicier! The meat jun is phenomenal. Like the best I've had. Order it. Kalibi here is good but not my favorite on the island but they are well flavored and enjoyable. You either love or hate the soyu potatoes. We are house divided. I'm not a Mac salad fan but I try everything usually just not Mac salad. So if that's your thing I imagine this place's Mac salad is good. The place is huge. There's plenty of seating. I ordered for take out but it would easily fit my family of 7.

This is good place (don't think they take credit cards though is the only thing I may be wrong in that please correct if I am) there's an L&L nearby and they get tons of repeat customers there, but this place is good to give a chance as well. The owner is really conscientious and she's a good person and squared away Shrimp fried rice is to die for. It's very good and a huge portion.

Was not a fan of this Korean restaurant. The meats were solid but the sides were terrible. I've never had warm chap Che. Cucumber was old and soft. Gina's kitchen was way better.

We stumbled along this hidden gem on our road trip towards Mermaid Cave. We ordered the kalbi combo with kalbi and meat jun. The plate lunch came with a choice of 4 veggie sides, the lady in the front was very friendly and there was a constant flow of people ordering or picking up even thought it was after lunch. The food came out hot and delicious, all the sides tasted extremely fresh. I would come back again if we are in the area.

This is my family's favorite Korean bbq on the westside. This review is solely for the fact that I was able to order my food on-line, pay and go into the store to pick it up. It was super convenient because you can either pick up ASAP or schedule a time, all on-line.

So I ordered by door dash because I was working and needed to eat but couldn't stop. Only part of the food came but the receipt was attached. The receipt showed that I had paid for all I had ordered. When I called the restaurant, they said they would look into it. 35 minutes later, I decided to drive down the road and when I got here, they said that door dash was going to refund my money and I had to pay again. Meanwhile I spent my last50. So not only did I pay 46 for my food I paid &8 for delivery and tipped $5 isn't it suspicious that only part of the order was circled in the receipt? The part that came?

One of my family's favorite places to go when we feeling like eating out. They get one family meal for four but thing so big can feed more than that. The get kimchi soup which is my ultimate favorite and it's authentic. Don't sleep on their fries, huge portions and the fries always perfect. Burgers too is good and bigger than one fast food chain. Employees so nice and works so hard. They know their regulars, wait time always on point too. They answer the phone almost immediately when I make phone orders. Inside always get good music. Huge place, clean inside and no smell like fermented food inside. (But the kimchee is good! In fact, all their sides is winners!)
