Shopping in Honolulu Chinatown...Sometimes, I just need to get some lucky red envelopes. The envelopes seem to make monetary gifts a bit more special. I usually give them as gifts to my nieces, nephew, and friends for the New Year. (This year's envelopes had cute piggies on them for the Year of the Pig!) At other times, I might give a red envelope in a birthday card or as a wedding gift. I found this store, W. H. Hing, at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza (on the ground floor) in Honolulu. It's convenient because it's surrounded by many Chinese restaurants. When you look at the restaurant, Tai Pan Dimsum, W. H. Hing is right next to it - on the right hand side, near the Kuan Yin statue. This shop also has Chinese newspapers, clothing, trinkets, snacks, videos, CDs, umbrellas, incense, souvenirs, and more! Just take a look! You may find something that you didn't realize that you need!

For a store that has been in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza for at least 30+ years, there's only one review? A superb review I might add!I remember coming to W.H. Hing ever since I was a small kid. My mom would always take me in here before or after dim sum. The set up was a little different than now, but there were shelves of Chinese books and magazines, and a covered section of the store that I was super curious about lol. As the years go by, books lessened and here comes Chinese movies on VCD, and you can even get a copy of movies that just came out in theatres with the pixelated cover photo. Now, the store is a mix of Chinese books, magazines, newspapers, movies, TV series, medicine, figures and statues, red envelopes, decorations, holiday cards, mahjong, and many, many other Chinese related items. Currently, they are selling many different 2020 Chinese calendars. I believe the "covered section" still exists lol! I noticed it in my photos. If you need anything Chinese, W.H. Hing is the place to go! They have an excellent selection of items. It's located in Chinatown Cultural Plaza, next to the New York Life office and Tai Pan Dim Sum. The store is small and really jam packed with things all over the place, so look up, down, all around, and behind and under. The owner has been the same since I can remember. Probably the original owner. It's a cool store, and probably the last of its kind after Dragongate Bookstore has closed across the way.

They closed down maybe a month or two ago - advise that you call around ahead of time to see if there's other places that might have one you're possibly looking for
