The Moana Surfrider Hotel has, for years, been grappling with how best to utilize their ground floor in the evening. I've seen enough variations to credibly report that the current set-up is the best yet. Vintage 1901 now hosts pianist/singer David Swanson beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Some of those nights require a two-drink minimum (food also available) but the rest of the nights you can just pop in and listen with nothing else being required. Still, a drink pairs very nicely with the experience. While admitting that the Vintage 1901 piano experience will appeal most to the 35+ crowd, who wouldn't get a smile out of watching people spontaneously dance their way through the lobby area? David Swanson takes requests but his music covers a lot of bases. Even if no requests are made, he's likely to get you out of your chair with anything from Bruno Mars to Marvin Gaye to the Bee Gees. I returned to Vintage 1901 multiple evenings, finding it the perfect classy place to escape the mobs on Kalakaua Avenue. Each time I returned it was apparent that guests - including this one - were enjoying a really fun evening. Moana Surfrider would be silly to mess with this winning formula so let's hope they don't. Vintage 1901, with the addition of David Swanson, is perfect right now exactly as it is.

Walking along Kalākaua, we heard live music coming from the Moana Surfrider Hotel, so we decided to stop in. I'm glad we did because this place was terrific! The bar in the hotel lobby area is called Vintage 1901. There was an absolutely amazing live singer playing the piano. He sang old school songs from artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Ray Charles, etc., and some more recent artists, such as Bruno Mars. We were blown away by how great this singer was. Adding to the liveliness and positive energy of this bar was all the people dancing in front of the performer. People were getting down and having the time of their lives. The vibe of this place is just wonderful. Everyone was extremely friendly and there to just have a good time. The service was great as well. We were well attended to despite how busy they were. I highly recommend Vintage 1901 if you're looking for a fun, upbeat, and lively place to have a couple drinks, listen to some great live music, and get down on the dance floor.

A place where one can unwind at the end of any day, husband and I come here regularly, sometimes even by myself after running certain errands/shopping on Kalakaua. You'll be treated to some relaxing piano standards on the weekends - not to mention, good food and drinks from the bar. Overall, a go to place for relaxed atmosphere and if you are afterwards inclined, take a couple of steps to the beach bar to inhale some of the sand and sea atmos. Some live music there too.

I liked the Moana is using the lobby area for the venue with David Swenson playing piano. Excellent evening. Server was personable and attentive. Filet was cooked to perfection and tasty, tender. Caesar salad was wilted and not worth the price. Will definitely come again for the entertainment & filet!

Great hotel bar to stop at if you're in Waikiki. This is one of my favorite hotels and Waikiki's oldest, I think. This cocktail and pups spot is located up on the veranda and away from the beach bar. I usually stop in with friends or when playing tour guide to family members visiting. It's a lot less chaotic than the bar several steps away and the service has always been quick and friendly. I find when ever I'm sitting down at the "Beach Bar" that service is always so slow and impersonal. I know they're union employees and they're just going through the motions, but a little aloha or enthusiasm would be great. It's not limited to this place, I find most of the Waikiki establishments with union employees tend to lack service and don't have the guest's best interest in mind. I know that the staff at 1901 are also union, but I've lucked out on every visit that I've had such a good experience. The menu is small, but adequate. They offer a very decent selection of wines and even do wine flights. The beers are OK, but I get that they have to cater to a worldwide audience, not the craft beer lovers.Food is all small bites including crab cakes, a charcuterie/cheese platter, poke cups and sliders. Everything I've sampled was good and prices are reasonable for a corporate hotel in the heart of Waikiki.I never miss stopping at the "First Lady of Waikiki" for a cocktail and the views.

Confessions: I've got a little bit of old soul in me... Beyonce? Ke$ha? One Direction? Nope, not gonna hear their tunes in my car. Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday...YES!! That's more my style, which is why I love Bin 1901. If you have a bit of "old soul" like me, you will enjoy Bin 1901 for it's casual setting, it's live piano and vocal music and for the relaxed, coastal, beach house ambiance it provides while sipping on your glass of wine. I was thoroughly enjoying the good life sitting in this casual lobby lounge (amongst more "mature" souls) soaking in every good piano note of old soul jazz. Bin 1901 is located in the Sheraton Moana Lobby, at the base of the staircase. It is very small, very intimate and very casual. Upon checking into the hotel for a mini staycation, we were given two vouchers for a complimentary glass of wine to be redeemed here at Bin 1901. You may also purchase wine by the glass. The live music by the talented pianist is what really makes the lounge great. He was AMAZING! He could play any request that patrons asked of him, and I loved his take on many of my beloved songs by Frank, Ella, Louis and the like. I thought he was better than the musicians that I've seen and heard at Lewer's Lounge in the past. Let me again emphasize that this is NOT your Bar 35 scene, nor is it even quite as "hip" or sultry as Lewer's Lounge where young moderns like to go and be seen. Just to give you an idea of the crowd at Bin 1901, my husband and I were the youngest people here, by a century at least. But if you are like me, and have that old soul in you too, then you too, just may fall in love with Bin 1901.

A great place for a nice glass of wine, or after dinner drink. Provided the hotel isn't too busy of course, menu is your standard hotel cocktail lounge menu with a small variety of pupus and deserts. Looking out at the huge banyan trees all up lit, I was quite at ease. Last call is about 9:45, after that the beach bar stays open a bit later. Nice little hidden spot for that end of the night cocktail, especially If you're dressed up from a nice dinner and don't wanna end the night at a bar.

Now know why it's called vintage.. cuz you'll be 10 years older by the time they get around to serving you. The waitress was nice enough and I wouldn't say it's her fault at all. It's understaffed for the amount of tables she's looking after during a peak weekend, poor organization on the managements side. Tables loaded, everyone is thirsty and it's slooooooow. Reason for the 3 star is that the piano player saved the day. Unbelievably talented!

Fairly lame. Offered a free wine with resort fee, then told they had discontinued it on Jan 8 but would "honor" mine. Well, it's written on your welcome card, so I would hope so. Service was pretty bad; took the waitress 20 mins to bring us 2 Merlots. I expect more from the Westin, especially with a $30 per night resort fee. The Merlot was ok, but they don't let you order of the regular wine by the glass list.
