Tropical Studios at Marine Surf Waikiki saved my vacation from being a miserable stay, as it provided a very comfortable and clean place in a very desirable location - a stark contrast to my prior Airbnb that was a horror beyond its staged photos.I needed to find a place to stay literally the next day due to an Airbnb gone wrong situation. While there were a couple of other options, Tropical Studios looked to be the most reasonable value for its location and room quality. I booked very late at night, and the host, Niko, contacted me very shortly after with extensive information when my booking was confirmed and was very active in correspondence. I had to send a photo of my ID upon booking and was nervous about information privacy, but Niko allowed for a way to do that process without me feeling too exposed. Just be aware that each adult needs to electronically send some form of ID to the building due to their security. The rate I paid in 2022 was $118 a night (before fees), and the total was roughly $600 for 3 nights. Rooms may get cheaper the closer you are to the booking date, but obviously there'll be a chance there's nothing available and it'll backfire. Because Tropical Studios is a condo hotel, they offer no housekeeping whatsoever, no matter how long the stay is, so look elsewhere or pay for maid service if that is important to you.- AmenitiesParking and wi-fi are free. The parking can get a bit tight, but that is most likely the case with other vacation rentals. There's a mini kitchen with standard sized fridge/freezer, oven with stovetop, microwave, Keurig, electric kettle, tons of cooking utensils, bowls, kitchen cleaners, and beach/pool equipment (folding chairs, pool floaties, boogie boards, goggles, extra towels, and more). There is onsite security and you need to enter a code to enter the quiet lobby. The air conditioning is phenomenal (although a little noisy). Our TV was very small and mediocre and had a weird aspect ratio, but I'm not here to watch TV. There's an outdoor pool and laundry room, but I didn't go see them due to a packed schedule. Since I've last been here, they've constructed a coffee shop/restaurant on the ground floor.- RoomSizable clean room, though there was some sand on the couch. The view was above average despite not paying extra for a better view - we could see a lot of city bustle, some hints of ocean, and directly across from us was another hotel... in which we could see through the windows. So, close your curtains if you want some privacy. The bed was comfortable and soft with a lot of pillows.- BathroomThe bathroom itself is kind of small, but the shower pressure was great, and the toilet had a strong flush. The towels were very thick and soft, and there were so many extra towels provided! At first, I was a little scared about not having the standard hotel amenities, but I came to really enjoy the condo hotel format that made it feel like home. The lobby and elevator were immaculate and in excellent working condition, and you can tell that the owners of the property wanted to keep everything in tip top shape. The residents were also quiet and well-mannered.Niko provided prompt and excellent service when we had an issue (with parking), and was a very responsible host. The location is A+ because you are basically already in downtown Waikiki, and every other popular tourist attraction in Waikiki Bay is within a 15 minute walk (beach is just over a 5 minute walk away). I would not hesitate to stay here again the next time I am in Waikiki.

I am glad I chose to stay here. The condo was very clean and had all the items I needed. Free parking and no resort fees was a desirable benefit helping make my stay on Oahu more affordable. The walls and floors are solid, so I could not hear my neighbors, but the street noise from 8 pm - 12 pm was loud at time and could be heard through the glass sliding doors... no surprise since the location is in the heart of Waikiki. You may want to bring ear plugs. The front staff was helpful and nice. Checkout was easy. I recommend this location and would stay here again. Some things to know is the parking garage ceiling is low- don't bring in a tall truck, Jeep, or SUV.

Great location in Waikiki, responsive management, secure premises, helpful staff, clean, easy check-in and check-out, included parking, extra stuff in room like beach chairs, towels, etc., very organized booking, etc. and uniformity in management and process. This is a gem in this location and value for all you get. There is a kitchen if you choose to cook but I didn't use the kitchen.

Very clean and very accessible to everything. The location is top notch. Directions to check in and out were concise. Giselle and the owner of the property were responsive and helpful. I will definitely book with them in our next trip.

Two cockroaches crawled up from the kitchen sink drain. We did not use the kitchen at all during our stay except to wash our hands. We ate out every day and there were no leftovers. It was disgusting and this experience tainted the rest of our stay.Very disappointing.

I have stayed several times at Tropical Studios marine surf. The location is in the heart of Waikiki. It is a 3-5 minute walk to the beach. The units are always spotless, and the bed and couch hide a bed are comfortable. I really like the quality sheets, I think they are better than you get in big hotels. Security is very good. Parking is available, which is a rarity in the area. Free coffee and high speed internet is a welcome bonus. And the balcony is full of snorkel and watersports gear for your use. You are surrounded by great restaurants. The building is older, and the elevators can be slow, but in general it is kept up nicely. It can get a little street noise, but so does every place in Waikiki. (At least there aren't striking hotel workers chanting and beating drums outside). The pool is not exciting. If you are looking for a safe clean convenient affordable place in the middle of Waikiki, this is for you. (If money is not an object I recommend the Kahala Hilton)

My family and I booked a total of 5 rooms, the place is a bit dated, but not too bad for the price that already includes 1 free parking, has laundry facilities in each floor. It is also in the heart of Waikiki, so walking distance to food, Ross is across the street and the beach is about a 5 minute walk. Here are my input for each room: #608- the water from the faucet is a bit slow flowing.#610- The pull out bed mattress is thin, my 78 year old dad's back was aching the whole time.#712- Upon entry, my son and his wife had killed 3 roaches.#2007- (Premium room): There were no towels, I was later told the night prior to checkout that my brother and his family didn't have towels- the building mgt later told me that the cleaning person accidentally placed it in other rooms. This is a carpeted room and my sister in law's allergies acted up because of this.#2205- (Premium room) Although I was told this was a premium room, THERE IS NO STOVE, the Pullout mattress was thin as well, my husband's back hurt after the 3rd night. The A/C unit is a window unit and was blowing on my back (I had to put on a pillow on my side). If you have issues- just contact Nikodem directly and he will do his best to fix the situation, I did that after I had initially sent two emails and did not get a response.Overall, our stay was pleasant- just wasn't too happy that my room (2205) didn't have a stove when it was supposed to be a premium unit, but Niko met me halfway. Also, their premium units (I booked 2 units) are not as pictured, at least those that I booked were not. But price wise, it was affordable for the 1 week that we stayed 6/12-6/19/2024. We would likely stay here again.

DO NOT STAY in room 906! Our room was a nightmare from the START. We were not informed upfront that we would get a run-of-the-house condo. Which turned out to be a DUMP. Our truck did not fit on the 3rd floor parking & in order to park, we could park on the bottom level provided we paid a daily parking fee. On our 1st morning the bathroom ceiling was leaking in three separate spots. I called Niko (the owner) to report the issue and then found our unit without running water when I got home from work the next day. Niko then stated that there was a posted sign in the elevator. What was so hard with sending a text or an email? Since I never saw the sign & to make matters worse, I was already exhausted from work and the issue with the leaking ceiling from the night before. The toilet seat was loose, the door under the sink did not close properly and then the bedframe collapsed. Talk about frustration - this was definitely one for the taking. Again - I called Niko to have someone immediately replace the bedframe BUT to our disappointment he stated that he had NO ONE to replace the bedframe & at his earliest convenience he would not have anyone until the next day. Further instructing me to go downstairs to the lobby for books to place under the bed for the night. To him, this matter did not require his immediate attention, and he also stated that he found it highly unusual that the bedframe randomly collapsed. As if implying that we purposely intended to damage the bedframe. Our discussion at this point got heated. Yet - instead of trying to accommodate our discomforts he somehow found it amusing to then say that if we were so UNHAPPY then we could vacate the unit & be refunded for the remaining nights. With no regards for our planning, commitment & expense for the week or reasons for our initial stay my husband thought it was just best for us to stay the remaining nights since our daily commute from Waianae to Waikiki for work & a convention would surely add more strain & stress to the already mental chaos for our fundraiser. I am adamant that we were treated poorly and would like nothing more than to save someone else the headache of having to endure this kind of treatment. Through text - Niko agreed to refund 1/2 of one night's stay for our troubles BUT I have still not received that either. In closing - I'd like to also add that upon our checkout. We swiffer mopped that whole unit and to our surprise the floor was disgustingly dirty with hidden grime as well. I repeat - DO NOT stay in unit 906 aka as the Tropical Studios at the Marine Surf Waikiki.
