Town Pump Liquors

This place was the main place to get alcohol 20-30 years ago. But now they have very little wine and beer. Maybe their selection of hard liquor is better but the selection just seemed a lot smaller than I remember.I was able to get a bigger selection of wine and better prices at Safeway around the corner which was not what I expected.

I tried to shop here a couple of times when I was living in Hawaii Kai. The old guy behind the counter refused service for absolutely no reason given one time, another was because he didn't want to accept quarters even though I had a 20 dollar bill to use and the only time I was able to buy something was with a friend who actually grew up in that area, that knew the dude. No good reasons for denying service to me at all. Would suggest shopping elsewhere, like Safeway around the corner where the people are actually nice and not rude.

I went to purchase a few bottles of scotch for my husbands 40th birthday, but was denied because the lady at the counter claimed it's illegal to sell alcohol to pregnant women. Needless to say, I will never shop somewhere that discriminates against women. I ended up going next door to Safeway and bought alcohol there instead.

I don't know why or how this place has any bad ratings but we frequent this liquor store because it's so convenient and has everything we need. There's conveniet parking, the employees/owners are always friendly and they carry a variety of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. They have random items- batteries, ping pong balls, lighters, mini snacks, playing cards etc!!

Yelp 100 Challenge #5/100This liquor store has been in Hawaii Kai for a long while. I decided to give them a try just recently. They had an okay selection of bourbon and scotch. When I went to the register to purchase my item the person behind the register aimed their phone at me to take a picture. I tried to move away and they said I got you. That was weird. They said it was for inventory? I was thinking don't they have a POS system for that? If they don't have one, how about just having a computer running Excel? If they don't have a computer with a spreadsheet program, how about writing it in a book. It was very strange and I never had a business do that before. It would have been different if they explained they needed to take the picture of the item I was going to purchase for inventory reason. But to take a picture and then say they got a picture of me was a little strange. The person at the register was friendly, but that experience took me a back. Don't think I will be coming back until their policy changes.

Located in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center (that is the one with Safeway), Town Pump Liquors is that small neighborhood liquor store where you will find a good selection of hard liquors, national brand beers, and a small but respectable wine selection.Stopped by on a complete whim and found this neighborhood shop to be quite charming. The selection is decent, however the prices are a bit on the higher side so it really bottoms down to convenience. The service was nothing to write home about, nor disappointing. I don't think they would be able to give you the intricate differences between a 2006 Mondavi Cab vs a 2008 Stags Leap Merlot, but they certainly will get you on your way quickly.

It really is amazing that this place is still open, not just because the owners aren't the friendliest people, or that pretty much everything is overpriced from the domestic beer to the incredibly odd general store items they carry around the register... well actually those are the reasons. They do have the best cigar and cigarette selection in Hawaii Kai (this is probably the one reason they still exist). If your really need some booze, bust out the club card, walk the extra fifty feet and go to Safeway around the corner....Town pump has been around since I have lived in Hawaii Kai, which is about 15 years just saying.

Poor service - rude I assume owners - they treated me like they didn't want business- I suggest you go to Longs or Safeway or drive into kaimuki - Tamura's Fine Wine & Spirits- at least they ask what they can help you with and are very accommodating- As far as this place, it's a wonder that they survived- I definitely don't recommend coming here ever

most over priced liquor store I've been to. the person behind the counter demanded to see what was in my backpack because she thought I was stealing. I was just buying a lighter. truly bad
