Took my husband here for the lunch omakase for his birthday. It was delicious and unique that we could make our own hand rolls or eat it however we wanted with the side of sushi rice and nori. You could choose among white rice, sushi rice, and brown rice. Service was excellent and we chatted about our mutual love for Japan! Ambiance is intimate with only counter seating. I felt like we were in NYC for a sec. We ordered the matcha ice cream and yuzu sorbet for dessert after and the server was so kind and put a candle in it and played the happy birthday song for my husband. The bathroom is shared with the rest of the building and was not the cleanest. I'm picky with my bathrooms so just wanted to mention it here for everyone. But all in all, it was a great dining experience and we can't wait to go back! It's also nice that there is free parking available for the first two hours.

We enjoyed an early happy hour at TORO. It's a small restaurant so everyone has a front seat to the chefs making your food. While this is fun at other sushi places, this one is more serious vibes and there's no small talk or sharing drinks with the staff. Perhaps it's a bit more laid back later in the night. They played 80's music, heavy emphasis on Michael Jackson. Thriller played as we ate quality sushi. It was a bit of a juxtaposition in my mind but hey, I'll "roll" with it!Standout dishes were:Uni- very creamy and freshSpicy ahi on crispy rice has nice flavor/ texture combo.Ikura was very fresh. The cheeseburger slider (I know, I sound so basic to call it out as a wonderful dish on a sushi menu but it is really good)! It has a char on the meat and the bun is so soft. The rest of the dishes were good. I think they might use old rice when they first open bc it was kind of hard and cold and the nigiri pieces just fell apart when I dipped them (fish side down, lightly) in my soy sauce. Definitely not the top notch rice I'd expect at a restaurant with this price point, even for happy hour prices. The otoro nigiri. I could tell it was good quality but I could see my rice peeking out from under the thin fish. The salmon nigiri didn't seem like it was the premium piece we got served. It was tasty but I've definitely had better. I'd skip the sashimi next time. It was very small for the price and the only standout piece of fish flavor wise was the hamachi. There was 2 thick slices of tako, one was so chewy I had to spit it out in my napkin. And I'm pretty fearless with food. The wagyu was ok and I think wagyu should always be amazing. Period. It's very thinly sliced but it was chewy (I had to eat each piece in one bite bc I couldn't cut it with my teeth without a tug of war). The sauce was overpowering. I'd prefer fewer pieces of higher quality meat and no sauce (maybe sauce and salt on the side). The rainbow tiridito is raw fish (ahi, hamachi and salmon) rolled and served in a tart citrus sauce. It is topped with jalapeños and fresh peppers. I think the sauce and toppings overpower the fish. I saw what cuts were being used to make it and it's definitely not the premium stuff (perhaps from the day before, hence the sauces). The salad has fresh greens but the yuzu dressing is overly tart IMO and there's no oil in the dressing. There's not much to it, just greens and some onion. They make a mean mai tai for a Japanese restaurant. Overall it was $200 before tip for 2 of us and we only ordered HH menu items. For the price, the service was on point, I just think the food didn't add up for the price even though they offer a heavy discount for HH. I don't think I'd do the omakase. I LOVE sauces (I'm the condiment queen) but I think this place overdoes it with sauces and it skews very tart and citrus so it distracts from the star of the plate which should be the fish/ meat.

I met up with Auntie for dinner. She suggested this place and made reservations. You really should make reservations if you plan on coming here. I counted about 10 seats in the restaurant and maybe two to three tables on the outside. Seating on the inside was tight. They recommend that everyone in the group order the same items. I don't like to do omakase. I like to know what I'm getting, so we ordered off the a la carte nigiri menu. We ordered two sets of two pieces of toro $10 each, salmon $6 each, scallop $8 each, snow crab $10 each and uni $12 each. We each paid $92 for eight pieces of nigiri before tax and tip, which I thought was pretty pricey. The food was good and the ingredients were fresh. It was dope to see the sushi chef cutting the fish and making our nigiri. Toro is behind Eagle Cafe on Nimitz. The hostess assisting us told us that we didn't have to pay for parking, so don't need to scan the parking code.

Sushi in Honolulu, Hawaii...My friend and I were interested in trying TORO and made reservations online through the RESY app. We were texted the menu by the business and given helpful, detailed parking instructions. Thank you! They also included information about alcohol and their BYOB policy. They also asked if we could order the same menu selections... no problem. I texted back that we would like the Crab, uni, ikura set. They replied that that's a lunch option only. We tried to cancel our reservation, but we would be charged $50 on RESY. We decided to do à la carte instead of omakase.I followed the parking directions and TORO was easy to find because I knew where Other Realms is... and I have been to Malama Kitchen. The interior is very cozy. For ten counter seats, every inch is used. Our waitress did make suggestions such as adding caviar to our toro. She seemed to understand that we wanted ten pieces each: two of each of the five items for each of us. The sushi chef didn't get it and said, "My bad". He wasn't very interactive, but he was efficient and had great technique.. The uni, salmon, scallops, toro, and crab were all fresh. I should have asked for "no wasabi", but I powered through. The king crab was replaced by snow crab - no biggie. Overall, it was an ok experience. We were able to have separate checks. I appreciate that!

Located in the Nimitz Business Center. So parking is in the structure. I think parking is free for the first 2 hours. Service was great. Plates were collected after every dish and water was refilled. Very intimate setting. Only thing is how tight to try to move around and get up to use the bathroom. Food was good and creative. The chefs know the inside out of their dishes. I thought the food had flavor throughout. We got the middle tier omakase. I would go again. Only thing I didn't like were how claustrophobic I felt because of how close we were to next party.

Loving this hidden gem! Located on Nimitz at the opposite end of the parking lot where Eagle Cafe is. Enter the 2nd parking entrance and you'll see signs for Toro. We came here with reservations, made online, at 6pm on a Friday night. It has an intimate dining setting where the sushi bar held 4 parties (9 of us). I wish I took note of the dishes served or that there was a sign of what we ate for the night. Every single thing we ate was so good and had such a fresh taste to it. Definitely a go to celebration spot for us. Will come again! Thank you!

I did the omakase sashimi lunch. The food came and was decently well presented although at the price point, there are better alternatives. One of the main issues that they were apologetic for was the fruit flies that were flying around. The chef would burn them using a butane torch as a flamethrower!

Got Omakase?9 course meal plus happy hour! What a steal. Toro holds only 10 seats so it's pretty intimate. Friendly and descriptive with food elements. New kid on the block but hard to find as the restaurant is hidden. Service was quick and entertaining. Check out my photos to see what we ate.

3.5 stars! Not bad, Toro! I've been wanting to go to toro since they've opened. I'm quite the picky eater so omakases don't really work well for me. They now have a happy hour menu Tuesday to Saturday from 4-6pm which makes it a little easier for me. Reservations was easy and made through resy. Do note that there is a late cancellation fee of $50 if you cancel 24 hours prior to your appointment. I'm sure you can also walk in. I went on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. There was 2 other patrons there and 2 more came maybe an hour later. Parking is underground and is labeled customer parking. 2 hours is free and you'll have to scan the QR code if you end up staying longer. The stalls itself was really small and perfect for a compact car. Just make sure you lock your car and hide your belongings in the structure. I saw a homeless man looking into a Lexus suv that was next to me. The menu items can cost somewhere between $4 for a nigiri up to $25 for a wagyu sandwich. I thought it was quite reasonable considering the quality of the foods being offered. My favorite was the potato skewer and the negitoro handroll. The $18 sashimi and sushi platter was decent but it's probably better to just get it per piece and get the pieces that you really want to eat. Service was good and attentive. The chef did forget one of my items and lost track of it, but the waitress did remind him of it when we asked since we were still waiting. The cons is that the seating is really tight. You'll definitely get to know your neighbors. It was hard to get in and out of your seat and if there was someone sitting then you'll definitely bump into their chair on your way out. There was only a total of 6 guests (4 at any given time) when we were there so I wonder why they couldn't space it out just a weeeee bit?? The other thing that bugged me (literally) was that there was a bunch of flying bugs!! My friend killed some of them but there was one or two that landed on the sushi plate and was walking around the fish and on the dish. The chef moved the plate closer to him but I don't know if it helped that much. Luckily for us. The bugs that was on the plate was not served to us. Lol. I think they were like those little fruit flies or something? But they all seemed to fly around the same area on the counter. In total we spent about 75$ including tip per person. We left content.
