Then nachos were really good, the only thing I can say it was just a tad salty, but still I would order it againThe taco on the other hand was also good but by the time I got it home the tortilla was soaked so when I picked it up it fell apart .

I played two soccer games today and I showed up starving. I could've eaten my cleats! However, I could not finish my burrito. It had olives? What? The meat was smoky which I didn't want. Have you ever been to Mexico? Also the steak in the beef taco was tough! Too bad.- Z age 11

(Tookout 11/04/24 MO @ 5:00pm): Uncle's making burritos as well as other Mexican food favorites! In my quest to explore the various cuisine scenes throughout O'ahu's Windward side (east shore of the island) after a recent acquisition of an investment/private-use property, I finally made my way to Tio's Burritos. As a born and raised Angeleno, I loved Mexican food and always craved it whenever I returned home from an extended stay away. Needless to say, Mexican food was hard to come by in Hawaii outside of Taco Bell, but I have seen random mom & pops like this one in recent times or places that served burritos and tacos but not necessarily a Mexican restaurant. Were Tio's burritos - along with some tacos and chips * salsa - up to the challenge with their island-style Mexican food!?PURCHASEPiledriver Burrito w/Carnitas + Chips & Salsa ($15.00): A thick burrito stuffed with carnitas, pinto beans, Spanish rice, salsa verde, shredded cheeses, onions, cilantro, and jalapeños, this two-hander wasn't messing around! Packed to the point that I felt it was about to burst if I didn't cut it in half https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=0aCVC2YMzzhSTEmGlF-bbA before I dove in, every bite had a bit of everything which I truly loved. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful, but I wished I had more carnitas than rice and it was more spicy (very low on the spicy meter). I managed to split this into two meals which saved me some money. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=vknbbvMnC5AC5zoohi4OBw3pc Ghost Pepper Tacos w/Tinga Chicken + Chips & Salsa ($15.00): I was sold on the ghost pepper for some extra spiciness, and although there was some, I could've handled more heat. With your choice of meats, I opted for the rarely-selected tinga chicken. The meat was nicely plentiful, seasoned, shredded, and succulent. The rest of the tacos were built out with the usual dressings, but honestly it was the amount of meat that was the highlight. The tortillas were overmatched by the weight of the ingredients. I also managed to save one for another meal. Five dollars per taco was a tad hard to accept, but ultimately my tummy was happy. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=bdSaDcmVZDqX-ec-85wy6QSide Chips ($2.00): Apparently, I didn't read that my burrito and tacos came with chips & salsa, or I wouldn't have ordered an extra bag! No worries, their tortilla chips were homemade and wonderfully had the stains of oil as each chip was crispy to near perfection. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=CO2vaAE5PwoACynjuHpvEQSalsa (COMP): I appreciated this, but it lacked flavor and spiciness. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=QCOAh1yTQ7uY-FZL2Gb9_ASERVICEI simply placed my order at the front kiosk, hung around for about fifteen minutes or so, and then an attractive young woman appeared, called out my name, and handed me my order with a cheery smile and a "come back again" salutation; easy-peasy - mahalo!PARKING (FREE)Located in the outdoor Hawaii Kai Towne Center, there were plenty of spots, and I was able to park relatively close to the business - 'nuff said!ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCELocated inside the Tex 808 BBQ & Brews, although they appeared to share some dining space https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=bTNxGrYSxTDZsM7JkvDZPQ they were basically a takeaway food business (I'm sure you were allowed to have your meal there, too, even though the restaurant obviously served food). They had an order kiosk, a view into the kitchen, and an area where completed orders were placed. Decent natural lighting came in through the front door and various windows while bright electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were several TVs with the volume turned up for your background sound. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=O_5oy48_JKQYJahMtYcfZAATTIRETotally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.OVERALLI was pleasantly surprised by Tio's Burritos, and would consider another visit. I've barely scratched the surface for Mexican food in Hawaii, but this was a nice start. Sadly, the meat choices were limited to the standards and didn't include my favorites such as cabeza, chorizo, and lengua. And, the menu selection was simple and tight. I enjoyed the food and service with the prices a tad elevated. Lastly, whenever possible I liked to support small family-owned businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $34.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Very happy to see a new tex-mex / Mexican spot in Hawaii Kai. Located in conjunction with Tex 808, where Phoenix Chinese Restaurant used to be. It's on the right side, while Tex 808 exists on the left side. Kinda glanced at the reviews but decided to try it just 'cause. I think my inner Mexican-loving-foodie had a hunch it was going to be good because I was extremely satisfied. Firstly, they have 2 kiosk screens to order on. While others commented how not ordering from a person takes away from the experience, I believe it made the process way more efficient. Remember, YOU can choose how YOU want to order at the tip of your fingers. No miscommunication or attitude from customer service. This is very smart, and I think more restaurants should be this way. Save money on labor and focus on dishing out food faster! On to the food. I got the burrito and holy goodness, "it was huge" (she said)! There was so much carnitas meat, as well as other fillings. Carnitas wasn't very salty nor dry. It was moist and well-seasoned. I got the lettuce, tomatoes, and a few other things as my choices for fillings. It all went very well together! It also came with chips and salsa. The chips were very crunchy, and had like a slight sweetness - I can't put my finger on it but it was delicious. The salsa was also great, as it tasted extremely fresh. This was so complimentary to the burrito.Cost is $14, as of 9/2024. The burrito fed me for two meals, and not because I saved it, but because it was perfectly sized to feed two (moderate eaters).I think I found a gem in Hawaii Kai. To all the others who have tried in this shopping center, sorry it didn't work out but thanks for paving the way for a wonderful joint like Tio's Burritos to come through and fulfill our true tex-mex/Mexican cravings no joint (sorry, Taco Bell) can fill for miles.

The birria burrito was nasty served with a side of consume that had a thick layer of oil, to where you couldn't taste the broth, and "Mexican" rice that they pretty much cooked with orange oil from the consume and called it a day. The burrito was fried but the oil seemed to be old based on how daaaaaark brown it was. One side had some meat and the other was mostly just onions. It's like they take the brisket from Tex 808 then soak it in the nasty consume and put it in a tortilla. I don't like leaving 1 stars, but diners be aware. I ate it bc I didn't want my family to feel bad having dinner with them, but the process was painful and I didn't feel that great when I got home.I do want to say the servers and service was excellent and they did a nice job renovating cha cha chas old spot.

We are always on the lookout for good Mexican food since my husband is Mexican and from California. We saw this place opened down the street from where we live, so we had high hopes! We weren't too hungry, but we wanted to try it out, so we got an order of chips and salsa, a large guacamole, and 1 carnitas taco1 carnitas taco was $5.. which is pretty pricey. We opened the box to eat it as soon as we got it, and it was a soggy mess :( there was only 1 corn tortilla, and it was cold, while the carnitas and the rest of the filling tasted watery. The taco was so soggy, it was impossible to pick it up to eat itThe chips were pretty good, but they forgot my salsa. The guacamole was decently priced ($8 for an 8oz container), but it was very bland and tasted like the "fake" guacamole you get at grocery stores :( Also, on the menu, they had "aguas frescas", but the pictures on the kiosks show that they were actually jarrito sodas - definitely not aguas frescas lolI am hoping that they are still working things out since they are relatively new, so I gave them 1 extra star to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'll be back once more to try some of their other stuff, but probably not for awhile

Chicken burrito was a "mystery meat" looking substance. "No sitting close to the water unless you buy food from Tex808". Ridiculous!
