I love this butcher shop generally. Knowledgeable staff and nice cuts of meat. And most importantly: you have to grab a sandwich while you're there. It changes regularly and there is only one type, so far as I can tell. And you NEEEED it. I dream about these sandwiches, and I'm not particularly a sandwich person.Tourists: come support a local business and have the daily sandwich, grab a locally made food souvenir. Small selection, but you can't go wrong with anything in their upscale, curated collection.

I've been here a couple of times now...recall when it was the Kaimuki Superette. Now owned by a couple:a baker and a butcher - hence the dichotomy in the store with bakery on the left and butchery on the right.Pastries are excellent. Default request at any bakery is a croissant and this was excellent.Today, I had the Breakfast Burrito for takeway. I can't recall all the ingredients; there was chorizo, eggs, beans, sweet potato, and cheddar with a moderately spicy salsa on the side. Eggsellent.Street parking - metered - available. Bakery opens @ 0800 and butchery @ 0900. Daily sandwiches available @ 1100. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

So I feel rather fortunate to be living in Long Beach, CA, where the bakery scene is almost unmatched (Gusto, Colossus, etc.). But coming across The Local General Store for some pastries while on a trip to Oahu was def a highlight.Came through on a Sunday morning around 8ish and the pastries were stocked. It was very difficult to choose as everything looked fantastic. We opted for the regular croissant, the black sesame mochi croissant, the char siu croissant, and the brown butter chocolate cookie and ginger turmeric cookie. They even threw in a free mini croissant with chocolate and sprinkles.I always base a bakery on their ability to make a solid regular butter croissant, and damn, was this one amazing. Up there with Arsicault in SF. It was crunchy on the outside, flakey and soft and buttery on the inside. Lamination was perfect. It was a pure joy to eat.The char siu croissant was incredibly magical as well. The meat is so well flavored and the combo of the meat and the flakey croissant is unmatched. The black sesame mochi is top tier. Black sesame is one of my favorite flavors so I might be biased, but this was the perfect slight hint of sweet, and the chewiness of the mochi added a great additional texture to the pastry. Tbh I honestly can't choose which croissant I liked best. They were all god tier pastries lol.We had the cookies later in the evening and the next day, and both were chewy and delicious. The free mini croissant was also very yummy.Prices are reasonable given the quality of the pastries. I know they also sell meat and other provisions here. Hoping on my next trip we can try more of what they have to offer. But yes, there will be a next visit once I'm back!

I recently visited The Local General Store and was very impressed with the quality of products and the friendly service. I purchased the short ribs , bacon burgers, and smoked ham hocks, all of which contributed to some delicious homemade dishes. The short ribs were freshly cut and I used them to make Cola Braised Short Ribs with Risotto. The meat was tender and flavorful, resulting in a dish that was an absolute hit. Similarly, the bacon burgers made for a juicy double cheeseburger that was incredibly satisfying.Additionally, I used the smoked ham hocks to prepare a Portuguese Bean Soup, which turned out to be savory and comforting. The quality of the ham hocks truly enhanced the flavors of the soup.Overall, my shopping experience at The Local General Store was fantastic. The variety and quality of their products will definitely keep me coming back. I highly recommend this store to anyone looking for high-quality ingredients and a pleasant shopping experience.

I stumbled upon The Local General Store one lazy Sunday afternoon while exploring the neighborhood. The charm of this place is apparent the moment you walk in. I was drawn immediately to the dessert bunker, intrigued by the variety of offerings, but it was the braised beef Sunday sandwich that really caught my attention.Ordering it was a no-brainer, and within 15 minutes, I was sinking my teeth into a sandwich that was clearly assembled with care. The flavors were rich and satisfying--exactly the kind of quality you hope for when you pay for a meal crafted from fresh, ingredients. It's the sort of sandwich that reassures you every bite is worth the expense.Finding parking might be tricky unless you're familiar with the area, but don't let that deter you. The Local General Store harks back to a time when neighborhood butchers and bakers knew your name and greeted you with a smile--something that's rare in today's big-chain dominated scene. They offer a wide assortment of desserts and pastries available in the morning, making it a perfect spot for early risers looking to indulge.Be aware, though, the store is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so plan your visit accordingly. This gem of a store clearly has a dedicated following, as evidenced by the steady stream of patrons I observed during my visit. If you're in the area and looking for a genuine, neighborly experience with a touch of nostalgic charm, The Local General Store is well worth checking out.

Yes it's that good and meeting the hype. All this at reasonable prices that won't break the bank.Their brownies are the best that I've ever had. Really good chocolate notes without being overwhelmed by sugar. Soft and chewy. This doesn't always appear on the menu so get em while you can.Locally made meats. Never had a sandwich that disappointed. The prime rib is ok a little gamey and tough but expected.Shhh... It's a local secret go to place. If it's featured by Diners Drive Ins and Drives and the big crowds will show which is good for their business so go here while you can.

So glad I finally got to samps! Everything was super delicious and I'm already looking forward to future visits to try other pastries like their lemon crunch cake or ulu samosa croissant. The quiche was bomb, super thick slice with a very creamy smooth filling akin to the texture of soft tofu, with a properly crunchy crust. The chocolate orange braid was really well balanced with the flavors, with neither one overpowering the other, and it wasn't too sweet. The daily sandwich was the killer one for me- the best roast beef I've ever had, with a super tasty green Thai eggplant filling too. The staff are very courteous and I'd be interested to try one of their curated butcher boxes too! :)

Wowowoowwow. The seasonal mango mochi lilkoi with mango was amaazing. The pistachio chocolate had a dark chocolate flavor (good!) but a little too sweet. Breakfast sandwich today was made with corned beef and it was flaky and crunchy and delicious. Honey croissant toast was.... Exactly what it sounds like. Sweet, a bit chewy, on the plain side - Wouldn't get it again.Strawberry cheese danish... Also as you'd expect but tasty.

I always wanted to try this place and I finally got the chance to! ***What I tried ~ **Breakfast Sandwich (10/10) ~ This was SOOOO good. I loved that they made it fresh and use whichever deli meat they had, but the croissant is so CRISPY. It does get a little messy because it's so flakey too. But I highly recommend if you go! **Strawberry Guava BBQ Sauce (4/10) ~ When I hear these flavors I think of sweet, savory, and tangy. However, this was so overwhelming sweet. I personally thought it was more of a jam than a sauce. I was not a fan of this :( **Dill Pickles (5/10) ~ I thought that this was going to have more spices, but it was just an ordinary pickle. Side note: So I did something weird and dipped the pickle in the sweet BBQ sauce and honestly it wasn't bad!! Overall,I'd come back to try more of the baked goods!
