I wasn't going to make this review but after the text he sent to my girlfriend here we go. First of all my boy recommended this gym even though he hasn't even been yet and it was going to be his first day there as well. I will never listen to another recommendation from him again after this. First let's start with the warning sign i should have caught on to. This guy told me and my friend in his office he would let trainers train there for free as long as they had a membership as well as the clients. But right after, he told me about a trainer who left and decided she would rather pay a 1000 dollars to train at kakaako fitness rather than train there for free. I was like she is crazy. P.S. the girl wasn't crazy. But I am at fault. I should have not signed up with a gym where you pay 175 dollars just to get started and apparently you are suppose to pay for a month that you won't be allowed to go to the gym. He is asking for money for August in the text as well even though I canceled with him on July 29th. Now I am going to educate everyone on how gyms work. When you pay to start you pay the first and last month's and maybe an initiation fee so when you cancel you have 30 days left of the membership since you paid for the last month. But since I turned my key fob on the 29th and I just found my girlfriends keyfob 2 days ago and turned it in today. But we ain't used the gym at all for the entire month of August not only that we don't have access to it. So he is planning on sending it up to collections which on video that I recorded today I said go ahead and do it. Because I honestly know for a fact that you cannot pay for something you don't have. Thats my problem and I am prepared to deal with collections for the 75 dollars each that me and maya owe. If you look at the bottom two pictures of the terms and conditions of this gym you can now see why I feel highly confident. NOW ON TO THE REVIEW OF THE GYM.Look i ain't been training clients for 20 years but i have a pretty good record. But i have never been criticized so much by someone nowhere near my fitness level. I mean I don't toot my own horn much but alot of people that tend to know me knows that I can squat, bench and do other fitness activities with very little difficulty but this guy will tell you that everything you know is wrong and that he knows because he been training for 20 years. And also for those who follow me on Instagram you also been seeing me hit the speed bag. This guy was hating so much saying I'm doing it wrong. But if I ask for a demonstration from him to do a squat, a push up, or anything standard I am in for a feature film. I also get the trying to be family aspect i guess that's where the good reviews are coming from but go see for yourself. Pay that 175 to see for yourself. Just know if you cancel the next day you pay another 75 dollars unless you pay on the first of a month that has 31 days.Everyone that goes to the gym or even work there are great and again I wasn't going to write this but when he yelled at my girlfriend because she left a yoga mat out when the place to put the yoga mat away was blocked by a woman and her client, so she decided to wait until the lady moved to put it back but he came in screaming, so that day we looked for reviews where other people had problems and we found them. There are good reviews on the place but I'm saying trust me just go experience it for yourself. Also I don't know if he knows this but i am well versed in how online marketing works. I know this place was running Groupons and Google ads so they need members and or money that's why everyone I know that canceled sensed a salty vibe once they turned in their key or key fob. Anyways I'm posting this review everywhere Google, YouTube, instagram, and I'm tagging everyone I know. One final thing this place is a business with copyrighted terms and conditions that i have in the pictures attached to this review you can clearly see I screenshotted it. Since this is a register business doing faulty things like that i encourage the owner to give up on trying anything that involves me or my girlfriend. PEACE

The Art of Fitness is a fantastic gym!! This is easily the best gym in Honolulu, reasonable priced with personalized attention from dedicated and experienced trainers. Ray Sagum, the owner and one of the trainers is very professional and takes a personal interest in you no matter what fitness level you're at. I train here 2-3 times a week and really like how he gives me solid training tips and advice to get the most out of every workout. I've been going for a few months now and am already seeing a big changes in my energy levels and body. The Art of Fitness is a good mix of functional fitness with traditional gym equipment and members who are serious about fitness but friendly and fun too. There are never too many people which is nice and there is a range of options for group classes throughout the week. It's a hard workout with happy people!

My wife has enlisted the help of the owner, Ray, to personally train her. She's gotten a couple good workouts and I got a chance to meet Ray and check out the facilities at 1750 S. King Street at a pau hana get together recently. Ray struck me as someone with a lot of training wisdom. More importantly, he sincerely wants to better peoples lives by sharing his knowledge and encouraging them to better themselves. The only thing he asks is that the client has their heart in seriously going on this journey with him. That way both parties can feel that all the time and effort is well spent. And I have to say, this newly remodeled gym is well equipped and clean. They have a good amount of free weights, a cardio room, and the separate men and women shower/restrooms look fantastic!I also really enjoyed the walls filled with great photographs and the case filled with prestigious awards won by Ray's wife,Lee-Ann, who is also a great trainer at the Art of Fitness. Everyone has issues and the is no judging here. If you want to get better in fitness, give Ray a call :)

My experience with Ray has been life changing to say the least. After perusing around commercial gyms, cross fit programs, and gym memberships, I finally found the AOF and it was perfect match for me. I chose to take up personal training with Ray and I also attend the group glasses whenever my schedule permits. Objectively speaking, the gym is very clean, intimate, and has all the equipment you could need. There is a restroom with showers which has toiletries for the members. There is also covered parking and an extra parking lot if needed. The price is more than fair for what you get. When you train with Ray, he doesn't waste time making conversation or letting you rest until the hour is over. You know those gyms that claim to have workout sessions for an hour and it's really only 30 minutes? Yeah, this is not one of those. The best thing about the gym are the people in it. Ray knows everyone that walks in the gym and the community itself is so warm and welcoming towards new members. That is truly something that you can't find everywhere. I joined with the intent of losing a ton of weight but I got much more-- an attitude that makes me embrace a healthy, balanced lifestyle. All of the work that Ray puts into helping me reach my goals inspires me to stay consistent with all the progress. I used to put off going to the gym. Now, it's one of the things I look forward to most-- seeing myself get better. If you are ready to begin your journey to getting back to the best you, the AOF will help you get there. All you need for this gym is a good attitude and the willingness to learn... leave the attitude, nonsense, and ego at home :-)

I joined this gym several months ago. To register, I was required to give a credit card number which was automatically charged. When the pandemic hit, I decided to take a few months off thinking I would go back when everything felt safe. Unfortunately, the owner refused to temporarily stop charging me the $75 monthly membership fee. I repeatedly texted him for four months requesting he pause my membership but he never replied. When her finally did reply, he dismissed my requests and continued to charge my credit card. My credit card company refunded the money, but I wish Ray had been more cooperative. I'll find a different gym.

The gym was never a place people would expect to find me. Growing up as a chubby kid, I loved playing sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, and paddling, but I never understood the love of working out, just for the sake of it. That all changed when I joined the Art of Fitness. My whole perspective of working out changed when I met Ray. Ray takes the time to understand your fitness goals and helps you to actually achieve them. He is just as dedicated to you meeting your fitness goals as you are (or as dedicated as you should be!). Without Ray, my view on working out would never be what it is today. I stopped working out for almost 2 years and gained all my weight back, but Ray still believed in me and worked to train me. He has so much knowledge about working out and is willing to help you learn proper form to perform the exercises effectively and efficiently. For the last 2 months, I have been doing one-on-one training sessions with Ray once a week and attending his circuit classes twice a week. The classes are particularly helpful for me because I have a busy work schedule. There are many different classes available at different time of the day. HIIT training combined with proper weightlifting training from Ray helped me knock off 20lbs in 2 months. Such unbelievable results. The Art of Fitness has the latest workout machines (with no wait time!), ample parking, clean showers, fresh towels, great trainers, and is a place to always make new friends. Thank you for building a gym for all types of athletes Ray.

I love this gym! I found Ray through a Groupon a few months ago. I really enjoy his personal training style. I appreciate that he pays attention to my form and helps me correct it to avoid injury. His workouts are dynamic and challenging. One of the first things that I found remarkable about Ray as a trainer was that he helped me correct my breathing to ensure I was getting the most effective workout possible. No other trainer I'd ever worked with before had paid that much attention to my technique. I've made a lot of improvement with Ray, and I would highly recommend him as a trainer. The gym is a great facility. It is clean and comfortable, and the machines are in good shape. I like that it's a private facility. The members are friendly and respectful. The classes are fun and they host events, at least once a month.Ray is definitely a no-nonsense guy. And he's the owner of the gym, so you have to be down with that.If that's not your vibe, this place is probably not for you :)

I've never had a personal trainer, and with the push of my wife, I've finally decided to get one. Main reasons to get a personal trainer were to get more energy for family and work, get in overall solid shape and get ready for basketball league. I did some research and decided to try the Art of Fitness. I wanted someone to push me and hold me accountable - I have gym memberships elsewhere, but I'm very inconsistent in going, and when I do go, I never maximize my workout. After several weeks of personal training with Ray Sagum, the owner, I have never felt this good in a long time - probably in over 20 years back in college days. This guy is the real deal. Ray focuses on proper techniques (if I don't do it right, he won't count as a rep), proper breathing (which I didn't realize how important breathing techniques were) and pushing to beyond what I believe I can do. If I tried to cheat or be half-assed on an exercise, then he'll call me out on it. Since I've never had a personal trainer, I don't have anyone to compare it to. But I have tried crossfit and other circuit training classes, and they've never taught me the proper techniques and breathing - when you don't breathe properly, then you get light headed easily, which happened occasionally for me at other places. I even learned how to do dumbbell curls correctly from Ray - I've been doing it incorrectly for all these years. I wanted to wait a few weeks before writing a review - I cannot be more excited to finally give Ray his due. Good natured, great heart - and at the same time, he will push you and won't mess around. Ray is professional, his communication is clear and really tailors the workout just for me. The gym is clean, two bathrooms and showers, provides towels, shampoo, soap, mouthwash, q-tip, shaving, etc. Atmosphere: Members are treated like family. Parking: parking lot or street parking. I've never had problem with finding a space in the lot. It's free in the lot. I've taken the Kajukenbo class, and if I can fit it in my schedule, looking forward to trying Jiujitsu down the line. Can't wait to recommend Ray to friends who are looking to better their lives. Art of Fitness has had a significant impact on my life so far. Thank you Ray!

My experience here was great! Very clean and welcoming facility, great work space for a variety of exercises, and super friendly staff. I participated in a jujitsu class with their personal trainer Kevin who made my experience above and beyond. This was my first time doing jujitsu but Kevin was patient every step of the way. He was clearly very knowledgable on what he was doing with good examples and explanations on each move we practiced. I learned so much in a short period of time and would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in jujitsu!
