TEX 808 BBQ & Brews

I'm from Hawaii but used to live Texas. I figure i try it because it's nearby. I hate to compare but my god the food was better than some of the top bbq places in Texas!!!!!Also ate in there, very clean and spacious. Lots of people order take out. Only one out of 3 staff members were actually friendly lol. The guy David has a big Texas hat, local Braddah and super friendly and helpful with my mom explaining what the sides were, comparing it to local foods. Loved it! He went above and beyond to help us choose what to get and even gave us wet naps. It wasn't busy when we ate there, after he helped us, he's fixing the kitchen and sweeping while the other two was straight chilling where customers sit. David stayed busy. So hardworking. Love to see that at establishments! Way to go David. But the food was majaaaah.

RIP OFF!!! $60 for 3 choice, 2 taco, 2 can soda and banana pudding.Double brisket & pork ribs plateMac n cheese, Cole slaw as our sidesBrisket so dry! No flavor. There was a thick slab of fat on the brisket yet it was soooooo dry.I don't eat pork however husband said that was dry and tastes better than brisket. Mind u they charge $3 more per brisket order. It was so bad that I took maybe 6 small bites and submerged it in the bbq sauce. Even that didn't help. WHAT A WASTE!Wanted to order a small rice which was 8oz and to my disbelief $5.50? For 1 scoop. WILD. SO WILD!!!!Tacos looked pretty but didn't taste great. When the meat is dry.Banana pudding. sooo sad. 8oz of banana cream pudding with 3 NILLA wafers and 3 slices of banana. Are u kidding me? $6 for that?Good note: the employees are really friendly. Place is very clean. They have a tv. But ..... I am here for the food!

Tex 808 BBQ has potential, but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. My family and I walked in, and the workers were just sitting around, not greeting or acknowledging us. It felt like we weren't welcomed at all. When ordering, the staff seemed disinterested, almost like they were ready to close--even though they still had two hours left before closing time.The worst part was when I received my food. The worker was playing around with my tray, and he actually dropped my bread. To my surprise, he still had the audacity to give it to me! The food itself was okay, but it was cold, and the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.I get that the staff are likely young, but there seemed to be no supervision or guidance on how to run the place. It's a shame because this place has potential. Unfortunately, I won't be bringing my family back to this establishment. They really need to step up their customer service if they want repeat business.

This restaurant has potential... the food was alright... this was our first time here... but customer service is nonexistent. Kind of disappointed, expected better. Also double check your order. We had items missing...

First time here to order for dinner. We decided to share a Triple plate.Order came out fast and when you open the lid of the carton it looks full and worth the price of $30+.Growing up and as a grown up used to the taste of Tony Romas, Big City Diner, Ruby Tuesday and Chicken In A Barrel, the taste did not entice me but it was pull apart tender for the meat choices.I liked the Cole slaw. The corn looked yummy but I had to abstain due to dietary restrictions at present so more for hubs. Lucky guy.Taste is a personal preference so you might just adore their food a lot.

First time coming here.. a little disappointed because it wasn't that great. Employees were nice and friendly, we were able to get our food pretty fast, I ordered the triple plate and chose smoked sausage, brisket, and ribs, with potato salad and bbq beans. The potato salad was so dry and had little to no seasoning, it definitely needed more mayo or mustard, tasted bland, all i could taste were the chunks of potato mush and the red onion.. The bbq beans were good. For the meats, I liked the smoked sausage out of everything I ordered. The brisket was dry and so were the ribs, even with the bbq sauce it was still really pretty chewy.

I think this place is a diamond in the ruff! I really liked the Mac n cheese My brisket i devoured but it left me wanting more! I wish my brisket could have been better texture I like a crisper outside w meat juices dribbling down my face I like the softness of the meat it was good I just want excellence I have too high of standards just a foodie. All my life and honestly w a little practice Texas 808 I would love to invest and this place in the next few years could be the premiere Texas Style BBQ on island these dudes got it They just need one or two ingredients and to try different cooking techniques and your business would skyrocket I like IT when beef juices run down my face and I am frantically looking for napkins and the juice looks like I'm drooling But really I'm just a BBQ fan! Maybe my expectations were too high The atmosphere beyond lame on the inside no Texan Vibes just bored teenagers No Y'all they were very nice but it wasn't amazing I love surprises What I loved the most was just the quietness of the outside bistro tables my Diet Coke my cornbread my Mac n cheese and my company all so lovely Excellent lunch or Tinder hook up because its fast quiet safe and the food is excellent I wanted more brisket even tho I complained about taste I'm a BIG eater it was still good tho and that BBQ sauce Hella BOMB I could of had ten more BBQ sauces please My favorite pleasant surprise was sitting out on the bistro tables on a beautiful Hawaiian Day in beautiful Hawaii Nei eating BBQ doesn't get better than that This is a great place to try solo or with kids for a nice lunch def. enjoyed eating out there I thought what a great IDEA see this place has potential under-the awning such a nice shopping center super fast service I just wish it were homier or cozy it needs a woman's touch like Frying chicken cornbread etc I want to see the real deal my tummy craves BBQ it's alright I wish it were better and they have my FAVE Diet Coke iced cold which I LOVE I just want better BBQ Sorry loved the Mac n cheese the outside tables and I give my brisket a weak 7 out of ten I wish it would be more like a fast food joint less options BBQ beef sandwich beans rice cornbread I like slow cooked meat the taste is there just needs a little tweaking and the potato salad was a miss It's like all the yummy flavors are there needed salt mayo mustard and eggs maybe tumeric Ur mamas potato salad Would be a HOT Seller in summer and all those Holidays just three ingredients away from killing IT! I LOVE that U bring Texas style the BBQ to the islands Last summer we had BBQ in Hilo and it was like chicken soup for the soul and Texas BBQ*808 could be "the spot" perfect name when u become famous for ur BBQ here! U could easily rise to the top BBQ on Oahu! I love this Business! Don't give UP! U have an awesome dream and excellent food So damn close but I just want MORE betta! I really liked BBQ in Hilo his heart and soul went into it and I can taste that I KNOW what I want!!! I want BBQ sauce all over my face and I want to be mad I got it all over my. clothes i want to have to adjust my pants and a very good value fast BBQ for the price pretty cheap but for a little more money I want a More country atmosphere as well I lived in the country and it's kind of like not fancy outdated plain I would like to have that laid back feeeling i would get when I lived in Hickbilly Country R Us and what I loved most was just feeling like I was HOME I want to feel like Country Hi Honey I'm home and relax watch the game etc the sweet Country vibes are there we just need MORE We all need a little more of that! I love TEX 808. The people are always so nice. The place is pretty small but they work with what they have and are able to work through their lines quickly.I once ordered food for Thanksgiving. They were very organized and had my food ready when I got there. Not only that but they have a discount slip for their Christmas box. Wow!Although the location is small, they do have tables inside and out.Obviously, the food is amazing! The go to? Brisket! I like their sausage and turkey too. So good!

Extremely slow service. There were about 6 people in line and tell me why it took 20-30min for them to even take our order? There were 4 of them working in the line. And not a single one of them were working at an efficient pace. They were all working so slowly, like they were just making a midnight snack for themselves. Ordered the 3 street tacos. For almost $19, it was definitely NOT worth it. They were so tiny, and they were just not good. They had brisket in it and it was dry. There was even a fly just flying around all the food and all the employees just ignored it.

Decided to try this eatery for the first time after a trip to the airport post office. It's located in the Moanalua Shopping Center across the parking lot from McDonald's which sits on Valkenburgh St. Plenty of parking by the way, although it was a little congested due to the lunch hour. Must be the same owner(s) as Teddy's Burgers, because our drink cup had their logo as well as Tex 808's.The restaurant was well-lit and appeared clean. Country music was playing overhead at a comfortable level. We were promptly greeted as we approached the order line. We checked out the large menu on the wall and made our choices with some help from the very courteous staff. Headed to the end of the order line and paid at the register. Less than a minute after my receipt printed out, all of our items were on the tray, and we headed to an inside table.I had the Brisket sandwich, which was topped with coleslaw and BBQ sauce on a toasted bun. The brisket and slaw were overflowing out the sides and it tasted good. My side was the mac 'n' cheese, which had a great balance of flavor and creaminess. I've had some mac 'n' cheese offerings that were either too dry and salty or soupy. This one was spot on.My wife had the 3 street tacos and was able to order a mix of the pulled pork and brisket. They looked on the small side, but she wasn't disappointed and could only finish 2 of them. Her side was the tater salad, which is their spin on a potato salad.Washed it all down with sweet tea, which did not disappoint. Having lived in the South for a couple of decades, I know my sweet tea. The only thing that could have made it better was crushed ice instead of cubed.The prices were a little steep for me to make it a regular stop ($17 for the sandwich and $14 for the tacos), but it's a nice detour from the usual plate lunch. We'll be back.
