Great food stop outside of Don Quijote. Keep in mind service can take a bit for food if you want it cooked fresh and hot. Dining is in the patio where there are seats. The takoyaki is so good they are always selling out. The okonomiyaki was delicious but lacked bonito flakes.Pro tip: The takoyaki can take up to 25 minutes to cook up so order before doing a quick shopping run.

I miss the original Takoyaki Yama Chan at Shirokiya food court on the second floor. I keep hoping the same quality would be found here. The takoyaki here is tasty but tends to be undercooked. I enjoy it when it's cooked fully and generously sprinkled with a generous serving of katsuoboshi (shaved bonito flakes). I'll pick this up if I can't order and pick up takoyaki from Hano no Sato on S. King Street. This is a take out only place with open seating outside. Tables are open to everyone and it's not well cleaned. Located next to Don Quijote Supermarket.

Quick service with friendly workers. Decent flavor for the price. Wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if at Don Juan already, not bad for a small snack. Light and airy and hot off grill. $6.90 for 5 pieces. Ambiance, eh, its don juan food court, don't expect much.

I used to buy takoyaki from this place a long time ago when they used to be at Shirokiya at Ala Moana. It still the same as it was before and has the same great taste. In each takoyaki ball is a piece of octopus. The piece of octopus is tender and easy to chew. The batter is light and airy, which is how it's supposed to be. You can watch them make the takoyaki in front of you. They have these black molds that they heat up and pour the batter in. Then, they put in the piece of taco and flip it. It turns into a round ball. If you've never had takoyaki before, I highly recommend it. It's more of a snack tho. You won't get full from it unless you eat a lot of it.

A little shop outside of DonQuijote. You order your food and then eat at the benches outside. The takoyaki is very very very mushy. Also they skimp on the bonito flakes. The actual octopus piece is so tiny. They do not crispy up the takoyaki at all. Quite mid but I had such bad takoyaki cravings.

Located right outside the entrance of Don Quixote. I got the shrimp Hiroshimayaki which is made fresh and it came out hot. It had cabbage, fried noodles, egg, bean sprouts, and tempura flakes. It was really tasty and flavorful. Had plenty amount of sauce.

There were many times that I'd visit other places to try their Takoyaki, only to have small sized or average tasting versions. Takoyaki Yama Chan always delivers with mamy different versions (my favorite being the Negi-Mayo) and combos to give you more options to try them. They also have incredible Okonomiyaki (both food items of which we don't really have on Maui) - they're a must-visit each time I go to O'ahu. Though their Shirokjya location closed, they thankfully still have their Don Quijote location not that far from Ala Moana Hotel, making it perfect for walking distance food trips - Miguel Morales Photography

I had the takoyaki and I think it was good but very small pieces of Tako. I am far an expert as I wasn't a fan of them before but I thought give it another try. It was good with the green onions. But let's see how much better they will be in Japan.

We came for the Okonomiyaki but instead making them to order they only let you buy the ones that are premade and cold. Very disappointing. I recommend going somewhere else.

I used to go to Takoyaki Yama Chan all the time when it was at Shirokiya. This is the best Takoyaki option in Honolulu. It still doesn't beat the ones I had in Osaka in October last year. The service is great and they use Apple Pay so that's a significant plus in customer service. Takoyaki Yama Chan is located in the food court of Donki so be aware that it can get pretty crowded during lunch time so get there early. The ambiance is outdoors so if you want AC, you should do take-out.
